Head to Phoenixville this weekend for ITALIAN ALL-NIGHT SPLATTER FEST 5!

I'm knocking a bunch of stuff off my 35mm to-do list this year. Along with my typical escapades to Poughkeepsie's Hudson Horror Show, The Alamo Drafthouse in Yonkers, and The Palace Theater in Syracuse, I've added The Anthony Wayne Theater, The Mahoning Drive-In, and now The Colonial Theatre to my list of haunts. This Saturday, starting at 6:00 PM, The Colonial (home of the original THE BLOB) will be host to an insane lineup of Italian Horror classics! Prepare yourselves for ITALIAN ALL-NIGHT SPLATTER FEST V!

THE LINEUP AND (APPROXIMATE) SCHEDULE

7:00 PM - TROLL 2 (1990)
This sequel in name only is regarded by some as "the best, worst movie" and rightfully so. Director Claudio Fragasso's tale of Goblins seeking human prey is one of the most bizarre things ever committed to film. Populated by a cast of unknowns (one of the leads is a dentist!), featuring cheap costumes and makeup f/x, and boasting one of the most nonsensical plots ever, TROLL 2 is one of the most entertaining bad films you will ever see.

When the Hardy family comes to the town of Nilbog ("It's their kingdom!") to swap houses with a family of backwoods yokels. They soon find that the locals are oddly friendly and insistent on force-feeding them green Kool-Aid, icing, and butter. It turns out that the townsfolk are actually goblins in disguise, and are trying to turn the city folk into human-plant hybrids for dinner. With the help of a young boy's dead grandpa, the Hardy clan will fight for their lives against the tribe of vegetarian monsters.

8:37 - PIECES (1982)
Juan Piquer Simon's entry into the slasher sub-genre is a work of inane brilliance. A mysterious killer is chainsawing coeds at a on a college campus, and its up to "a former tennis star turned detective" to discover the identity of the culprit. This movie puts the red herrings into overdrive, and features some fun kills, and a total "what the f*ck?" ending that will leave you laughing and scratching your head, long after the film has ended.

I know it's a year away, but may I humbly suggest Simon's SLUGS for a future Italian Splatter Fest event?

10:08 PM - 20 Minute Break.

10:30 PM - CEMETERY MAN (1994)
I haven't seen this flick in a looooong time, but I remember enjoying it quite a bit. Rupert Everett stars as Francesco Dellamorte, the night watchman at an old cemetery, who finds himself having to lay the dead back to rest shortly after they've been buried. Dellamorte's sidekick is a fat bald guy named Gnaghi who can only say "GNAH!," and he is haunted by a beautiful woman (Anna Falchi!) who seems to keep reincarnating and walking back into his life over and over again. It's a very strange movie, but a lot of fun, and kind of artsy.

12:19 AM - WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO SOLANGE? (1972)
This is one film I've never seen in any format, so I'm very curious about it. From the official Italian All-Night Splatter Fest Page: "While spending an amorous afternoon with a married teacher, Elizabeth witnesses the murder of a classmate. Now, the killer seems to be stalking the student body and the numero uno suspect is her secret lover!" A classic 70s giallo flick? Yeah, I'm totally down for that!

2:04 AM - 20 Minute Break.

2:26 AM - ZOMBIE (1979)
Lucio Fulci's ZOMBIE was one of my first forays into the world of Italian horror, and I love this movie dearly. Though I've already seen this in 35mm, I'm more than eager to have it shove a splinter of awesome into both of my eyes all over again! A group of people become stranded upon the island of Matool after a shark damages their boat (and battles an aqua-zombie!). Soon they meet up with Dr. Maynard, who is trying to find a cure for the isle's undead epidemic. But as things progress, it would seem that there is no cure, and that the pestilence is spreading at an alarming rate across the globe!

Fulci's "sequel" to Romero's DAWN OF THE DEAD is a total blast, and features some of the most inventive (and brutal) f/x sequences you will ever witness! This is a great way to cap things off on this fun event!

So just to recap things: ITALIAN ALL-NIGHT SPLATTER FEST 5 takes place on Saturday, September 3rd! Doors open at 6:00 PM and movies begin at 7:00 PM, and there will be contests, prizes, and other fun surprises for all those that attend! CLICK HERE to get your tickets now, and hopefully I'll see you there!

Rifftrax Live battles Toho's MOTHRA tomorrow night!

Fans of classic Japanese monster flicks and movie riffing rejoice, for Rifftrax Live battles MOTHRA tomorrow night in theaters across the United States! (With a rebroadcast on August 23rd!) Michael J. Nelson, Bill Corbett, and Kevin Murphy will team up to take jabs at this classic kaiju flick, which features Toho's other famous mon-star!

For the uninitiated, MOTHRA is a 1961 Japanese epic, where explorers investigate the nuked remains of Infant Island. They are startled to find that the island is actually still inhabited, and filled with numerous mutations caused by radiation poisoning. Also, the islanders, led by two tiny priestesses, worship a giant insect god named Mothra!

But when the tiny "Shobijin" are kidnapped and taken back to Japan to be exploited, Mothra hatches from an egg and makes a beeline for the Land of the Rising Sun. The larvae eventually morphs into her final insect form, and destroys everything in her path as she seeks out the "twin fairies." Will the Japanese Self-Defense Forces be able to stop MOTHRA?!

This Rifftrax Live show begins at 8:00 PM EST and will be streaming live to various movie theaters. To find out if it's playing near you, and to snag yourself tickets, CLICK HERE!

Sadly I'm missing out on this show (it sucks that they're always broadcast on Thursdays!), so if any of you Vault Dwellers attend, please let me know how it was. And most definitely share your favorite moments from the film (and your favorite jokes) in the comments below!

This September, travel to the Frozen Kingdom with a young H.P. Lovecraft!

SHOUT! FACTORY BRINGS ARCANA STUDIO'S "HOWARD LOVECRAFT AND THE FROZEN KINGDOM" TO DVD AND BLU-RAY ON SEPTEMBER 27TH!

I first reported on the production of this animated film last October, and I can't believe it's about to come out on DVD & Blu-ray! Where does the time go?! I'm a sucker for anything H.P. Lovecraft, so I'll definitely be checking this one out!

Film Synopsis: Before he becomes the famed horror writer H. P. Lovecraft, young Howard Lovecraft is a curious and imaginative boy living with his mother. But after she unwittingly gives Howard the legendary Necronomicon, he is transported to a dangerous and frozen world populated by horrifying creatures. After saving and befriending one such creature – Spot – Howard and his new friend set off on a perilous quest to save the kingdom and get Howard home. But Howard soon finds out that not everything is as it seems and not everyone is to be trusted.

H.P. Lovecraft, famed horror and fantasy writer, was once just Howard Lovecraft, a strange and lonely child. Howard was a boy of infinite imagination and boundless curiosity. His family however was not without peculiarities of their own... This fall, loyal fans and enthusiasts of Lovecraft’s literature are invited to venture into the imaginative Lovecraft universe through the new animated feature HOWARD LOVECRAFT AND THE FROZEN KINGDOM.

Written, directed and produced by Arcana Studio’s Sean Patrick O’Reilly, HOWARD LOVECRAFT AND THE FROZEN KINGDOM is the highly-anticipated movie adaption of Arcana’s popular graphic novel of the same name and features an all-star voice cast of Emmy-winner Jane Curtin (3rd Rock from the Sun), Golden Globe-winner Ron Perlman (HELLBOY, FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM), Academy Awards-winner Christopher Plummer (BEGINNERS, UP), Doug Bradley (Pinhead from the HELLRAISER series), Kiefer O’Reilly (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) and Alison Wandzura (CW’s Van Helsing).

A veritable love letter to Lovecraft himself, HOWARD LOVECRAFT AND THE FROZEN KINGDOM is a fantastical movie adventure that entwines new storytelling, actual events of H.P. Lovecraft’s life, iconic elements of his writings and literary characters Cthulhu, Shoggoth, and more!

"The Taint" soundtrack needs your help for a vinyl release!

Drew Bolduc's THE TAINT is a completely insane film that pushes misogyny to violent and satirical extremes as an experimental male enhancement drug is released into various water supplies across the globe. The resulting mutation caused by said drug is a legion of woman-murdering man-sters with huge, rock-hard, goo-spewing erections! Love it or hate it, you can't deny that the soundtrack to the film is exceptional. (Especially Track #4: Super Adventure Men, and Track #5: We'll Meet Within The Shadöws öf Löve. Those are my two absolute faves!)

And now this cult oddity's soundtrack (purchase the digital release HERE or listen to it for free on YouTube HERE) is coming to vinyl! Due to an overwhelming demand, TAINT director and composer Drew Bolduc plans on bringing the groovy sounds of his first feature film to fans of retro audio formats.

The soundtrack is just about ready to go into production but funds are needed to get the records pressed, marketed, and shipped! Therefore on August 17th, an online crowdfunding campaign will kick-off in order to accomplish this goal! Naturally there will be rewards for donating your hard-earned cash such as the TAINT soundtrack (digital & vinyl), DVDs of Drew Bolduc's second feature film SCIENCE TEAM, THE TAINT on VHS, limited copies of the unproduced TAINT 2 screenplay, and much more!

Now if this doesn't rock your world, and you're not up to pledging funds, at the very least head over to this project's THUNDERCLAP PAGE, and share it on Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook! That way you can help spread the word, and have a social media reminder automatically sent out on August 17th to let people know that the crowdfunding campaign has begun!

Still not sold on helping? Really? Then sample some of the music from the film below and see if it that changes your mind.

Reel Gore Releasing unleashes 3-discs of Violent Shit on August 9th!

KARL THE BUTCHER WILL BE RESURRECTED ON AUGUST 9TH, IN A COLLECTIBLE 3-DISC LIMITED EDITION COMBO PACK FROM REEL GORE RELEASING!

Well this is something you don't see every day... Andreas Schnaas' VIOLENT SHIT series (comprised of four films ranging from 1989 to 2010) has been reborn thanks to Luigi Pastore, who has co-written and directed this all new Karl the Butcher reboot!

Film Synopsis: Rome is shattered by a series of gruesome murders that paint the eternal city deep red. Italian police inspector Aristide D'Amato and his German counterpart, Hans Ebert, initiate their criminal investigations.

They stumble upon the eccentric Professor Vassago, a master of myths and mysteries, who is linked to Senator Vinci, a corrupt politician. Both are mutually driven by power and perversions. The suspicion grows that these atrocious crimes are connected with the return of one of the most heinous serial killers of our time - Karl the Butcher!

    Fangoria says:
“The relentless Karl the Butcher, beloved and best known to gorehounds and German Underground aficionados has been revamped and re-envisioned; his trademark brutality in the likes of the distinctly German independent VIOLENT SHIT now remade into an equally ghastly giallo featuring a Claudio Simonetti soundtrack. VIOLENT SHIT — THE MOVIE is an homage to both the original’s 25th anniversary and the producer’s love of Italian horror and blends German gore movies with the ”mastery of Italian horror.”

The film stars Italian genre mainstay Giovanni Lombardo Radice as “the devil incarnate, who masterminds Karl the Butcher’s evil murder spree.” Italian directors Enzo G. Castellari (INGLORIOUS BASTARDS) and Luigi Cozzi (CONTAMINATION) have cameos in the movie, as well as Lucio Fulci’s screenwriter Antonio Tentori and SUSPIRIA’s Barbara
    Magnolfi.”

The B-Movie Film Vault Presents... Lady Terminator at the Anthony Wayne Theater on August 12th!

    Roll out the red carpet!
For some time now, Reel Cinemas Anthony Wayne Theater has been running a REEL CULT midnight movie series (courtesy of general manager Newt Wallen)! Past screenings have boasted a variety of great titles, such as THE UNDERTAKER AND HIS PALS, BRIDE OF THE MONSTER, SCALPS, and Al Adamson's DRACULA VS. FRANKENSTEIN!

On Friday, August 12th, REEL CULT and yours truly will team up to screen one of the greatest cult oddities ever committed to film: LADY TERMINATOR (aka NASTY HUNTER). This Indonesian rip-off of James Cameron's classic 1984 sci-fi thriller stars Barbara Anne Constable as an anthropologist (:: snicker :: ) studying the legend of the South Seas Queen.

One silent tsunami and animated eel later, the ditzy scientist has suddenly become a weapon of penile mass destruction. Using her ahm... "feminine wiles," and an assault rifle with unlimited ammo, the "Lady Terminator" goes after a rising pop-star that holds the key to her destruction. What results is an all-out assault on the senses, full of scrotal violence, female nudity, explosions, hundreds of squibs, scenes lifted directly from THE TERMINATOR, and a batshit insane ending to cap it all off!

Tickets to this screening are a mere $7.00! Things will kick off at 11:30 PM with some trivia contests and giveaways (I'll be bringing some DVDs, Blu-rays, and posters to offload onto some of the lucky attendees!), a LADY TERMINATOR review video from Cynical Celluloid, and some crazy trailers to get everyone pumped for the main event!

So round up some friends next Friday night Vault Dwellers, and prepare for a night of hilarity, vulgarity, depravity, and complete insanity when LADY TERMINATOR storms the silver screen! If you plan on attending, let us know on Facebook, and hopefully I'll see a bunch of you there!
