The B-Movie News Vault's Indie Filmmaker Spotlight: David Munz-Maire

Greetings Vault Dwellers! Earlier this month I took a moment to report about the efforts of low-budget Horror director Todd "Killer" Wolfson. (Read all about him HERE.) I received such an overwhelmingly positive response to that post, that I decided that the News Vault's Indie Filmmaker Spotlight must continue! So now, allow me to introduce you to the newest inductee into this ongoing series....

David Munz-Maire on the set of GOODBYE CHARM CITY.

David E. Munz-Maire is a Bilingual International Baccalaureate Diploma recipient, and alumnus of the prestigious NYU: Tisch School of the Arts. He earned his B.A. in Film & T.V. and Minors in Psychology and Producing for Film & T.V.

David's passion for directing led him to pursue a Masters in Directing at the School of Visual Arts. He is also the Co-Founder of AireBedd, a banner under which he has garnered dozens of laurels for his various short films and music videos.

Since 2012, David has been dutifully honing his craft, and cutting his teeth on every aspect of film making. Aside from directing, he's also (as of my writing this) produced (at least) a dozen shorts, worked as a production assistant (on IMPRACTICAL JOKERS), an editor, script supervisor, grip, art director, and has even done a bit of acting. He is clearly a jack of all trades!

Currently David's Horror short CHATEAU SAUVIGNON: TERROIR, is making the rounds at various film festivals, and continues to receive accolades and awards!

A behind the scenes photo from CHATEAU SAUVIGNON: TERROIR!

Written, Produced, and Directed by David Munz-Maire
[Official Site]

Synopsis: This film is about the dynamic struggle between an ex-psychiatrist and one of his former patients. The story is set in motion when Tony, a former Sing Sing inmate, accidentally robs and is held captive by his old shrink Dr. Beck. Beck is an ex-criminal psychologist turned librarian after the murder of his wife and son, who interrogates the intruder as though it were one of their sessions turned awry.

Written, Produced, Edited, and Directed by David Munz-Maire
[Official Site]

Synopsis: A gruesome coming of age story about a vintner son's disobedience and desire to care for his ailing mother.

David Munz-Maire's CHATEAU SAUVIGNON: TERROIR feels like a much classier version of THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, but is no less brutal. In this film, a vintner's son, against his father's wishes, takes two guests on a tour of their wine-making facility. This eventually results in a gory double-homicide, and the reveal of a ghastly family secret!

CHATEAU is a fantastic short film that is atmospheric and delightfully gruesome. The makeup effects (courtesy of Anthony Pepe) are well-done, and the cast members all turn in good performances. I enjoyed it and hope that in the future, David Munz-Maire considers turning this concept into a feature-length Horror film! But that is probably a long way off because David currently has a lot on his plate. (He is the primary producer of Airebedde's releases after all.)

Many thanks to David Munz-Maire for supplying pictures and information to help make this post possible! If you would like to stay informed about his current and upcoming projects, be sure to like and follow Airbedde's Official Facebook Page! To watch the shorts and music videos that David was worked on, visit Airebedde's Official Website, and their Vimeo page as well!

If you happen to be an independent and/or low-budget genre filmmaker and want to be part of the Vault's next Indie Filmmaker Spotlight, please contact us! Be sure to include a short biography, photos, links to your website and/or social media pages, and most importantly, links to your films. (Whether they be shorts or feature length productions!)

Saddle Up for some classic Harryhausen! THE VALLEY OF GWANGI makes its Blu-ray debut on March 14th!

I've always been a big Ray Harryhausen fan, and THE VALLEY OF GWANGI still has one of the most impressive stop-motion effects sequences ever committed to film. Synopsis: Cowpokes head into a mysterious Mexican valley to head em up and move em out. But they're not looking for little doggies. They're looking for great big dinosaurs! James Franciscus stars in this thunderous adventure featuring amazing special effects by Ray Harryhausen (THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS, EARTH VS. THE FLYING SAUCERS, et al.)

Franciscus plays a Wild West showman who leads his riding and roping crew into legendary VALLEY OF GWANGI, where prehistoric giants still roam. Thanks to Harryhausen wizardry, fantastic creatures lunge, fight and rampage in scene after dazzling scene (including an awesome sequence where the cowboys rope Gwangi, a razor-toothed Allosaurus). Saddle up and join the excitement!

The B-Movie News Vault's Indie Filmmaker Spotlight: Todd "Killer" Wolfson

Greetings Vault Dwellers! I'm taking a break from posting the usual stuff you crave in order to (hopefully) start a new editorial series at The B-Movie News Vault. Every month I receive dozens of e-mails about upcoming indie Horror films. Admittedly I don't get around to promoting many of those films, or the people behind the camera lens, so I want to right that wrong tonight, starting with an up-and-coming indie filmmaker you may not have heard of.... yet!

I give Todd's taste in t-shirts five stars!

Todd Wolfson, is an independent Screenwriter, Director, and sometimes Actor, who runs Pittsburgh-based Just Buried Productions. Growing up, he was obsessed with all things Horror, including '80s slashers, monster movies, creature features, and Japanese Horror, as well as the low-budget offerings from Troma and Charles Band's Full Moon Entertainment! (He's also a huge Kevin Smith fan!)

A passionate writer since his early years, Todd wrote numerous poems and short stories over the years, typically focusing on "the underdogs, rejects, and freaks of society who no one would ever expect to fight back." But it wasn't until the Spring of 2015, where he met up with the "Shadow Frame" crew, and finally shot his first short film, a Horror/Comedy called 8-BIT BLOOD BATH!

The movie was shot within a week on a grueling schedule, but everyone on board the production put in the maximum amount of effort to get it completed. 8-BIT BLOOD BATH eventually made its debut online on March 6, 2016 on YouTube!

Currently Todd has numerous irons in the fire: He's writing a novel called A FIEND'S PROSE: WARLOCKS OF ROZYLN, and working on several film projects. His first is a Grindhouse-style parody trailer for a non-existent movie called SPONGE.

Humanity will be scrubbed from the face of the Earth!
It is his tribute to the drive-in theater creature features of the 1950s and '60s, and also takes inspiration from films like CRITTERS and ALIENS. (With a bit of THE TWILIGHT ZONE tossed in for good measure.) He is also developing a new "artsy dark comedy" called BATSH!T, which features a recently unemployed man who is "trapped inside his apartment and his own zany head."

Throughout the course of the movie, the main character slowly, but surely, loses his mind and experiences various hallucinations during his bizarre mental breakdown. (Apparently he begins to think his neighbor is a serial killer, and that his best friend is a pixelated game sprite!)

SPONGE is planned for an early 2017 release (official date TBA), and BATSH!T will go into production soon after.

Written and Directed by "Killer" Wolfson
[Watch the trailer.]

Synopsis: On Halloween night in the mundane city of Rozlyn, a fiery cauldron of evil is a brewing. Meet Billy Blitzkrieg, a video game nerd and recluse who loves nothing more than to sit in his room, gaming all night with his "UltraGlove." That all changes when he gets a call from high school crush, Mallory Rose, who lures Billy into her dark occult world. When a ritual takes a turn for the worse, Billy wishes he would have just stayed home and beat the last level of Ghouls & Goblins...

Written by "Killer" Wolfson | Directed by Phillip Ray Angel

Synopsis: Byron Mason is a teacher at Rozlyn Academy, that has always been extremely passionate about his career and his art. But that all changes when Byron goes through an awful divorce. He becomes an unreliable alcoholic, that eventually loses everything else he once cherished in life, including his job. This causes Byron to snap, and soon he is using his handy dandy X-Acto knife to carve wicked designs into his victims' corpses, turning them into his own sick and exquisite works of art.

SPONGE (2017)
Written and Directed by "Killer Wolfson"

Synopsis: When a failed door-to-door salesman named Jerry finds a box of strange blue sponges, his luck turns around! Soon he's back in his groove and selling the hell out of them, not realizing that they are actually tentacled monsters from another planet that resemble sponges! Soon the tiny rectangular terrors are on the loose and sucking all of the brains and blood from their victims! Can they be stopped?!

Thank you for taking the time to read about Todd "Killer" Wolfson, and many thanks to Todd himself for supplying me with pictures, links, and some biographical information. If any of you Vault Dwellers enjoyed 8-BIT BLOOD BATH or AESTHETIC DEMISE and want to keep up to date on Todd's future projects, be sure to follow him on Facebook and Twitter! And don't forget to subscribe to his YouTube channel as well, so you can watch his short films, plus exclusive behind the scenes footage!

If you're a independent and/or low-budget filmmaker and want to be part of the Vault's next Indie Filmmaker Spotlight, please contact us at! Be sure to include a short biography, photos, links to your website and/or social media pages, and most importantly, links to your films. (Whether they be shorts or feature length productions!)

Campy Creatures are coming from Keymaster Games in August 2017!

Honestly, the box art's already got me sold on this game!

First of all, allow me to apologize to Mattox Shuler from Keymaster Games. He had sent me information about this game weeks ago, and I somehow ended up condemning his e-mail to a spam folder! Had I not kept meticulous notes on what , I probably would have forgotten all about this cool-looking card game! And while this news was time sensitive, I am very happy to announce that this game is not only fully funded, but has more than tripled the initial goal of $15,000! If you still want to contribute monetarily, just visit the Campy Creatures Kickstarter Page to make a pledge!

As mad scientists, each player has been tasked with the goal of capturing "Mortals" for future experimentation. Players have an army of Campy Creatures to do their bidding (including a Blob, Vampire, Werewolf, and Kaiju) with three nights to get the job done! Be warned though—the Mortals won’t go out without a fight. Campy Creatures is for 2 to 5 players, and each full game takes approximately twenty, to thirty minutes to complete!

Each player is given an identical hand of Creatures. A turn begins when Mortals, Traps, or other Artifacts are revealed. Mortals are worth positive points, traps are negative, and artifacts give players different abilities. Each player simultaneously chooses a Creature and places it face-down. Once all have chosen, the Creatures are revealed and their abilities resolve. The Creature with the highest strength collects a card first, the second highest goes next, and so forth. A new turn begins when new Mortals, Traps, and Artifacts are revealed. A night lasts for six turns, and the player with the most victory points after three nights wins.
The awesomely designed "Creature Cards" for the game!
With funding secured, Keymaster Games is planning to unleash Campy Creatures in August of this year. It currently only costs $20 for the game, and is a guaranteed good time for b-movie monster fans, ages 8 and up! There will also be a free iOS and Android app to coincide with Campy Creatures, AND there are also plans to release a limited edition series series of beer (courtesy of Bottle Logic Brewing) to either drink while playing Campy Creatures, or enjoy at your leisure. These will be tart ales, and each release over 2017 will feature a different creature from the game! Pretty damned cool, right?

If you're sold on Campy Creatures (like I am), CLICK HERE to secure your very own copy now! Still kind of unsure about the game's mechanics? Have no fear, for the gents at Keymaster Games have got covered! Just watch the short YouTube video below to give yourself a better idea of how Campy Creatures works!

Trailer Round-Up: Hollywood Blockbuster Edition 2017 - Vol. 1!

There are dozens of trailers just waiting to be shared Vault Dwellers, but Hollywood Blockbuster season started super early this year! So let's take a look at the newest trailers for three highly anticipated sequels, and a reboot that looks like it'll be a great time at the theater! Aliens, ghostly sailors, and giant monsters

Release Date: May 19, 2017

The latest entry into the ALIEN franchise is supposed to form a bridge between PROMETHEUS, and Ridley Scott's classic creature feature! In this film, a group of colonists (all couples apparently) travel to an Earth-like planet devoid of all animal life. At first they think they've come to paradise, but things quickly go downhill once they discover a derelict alien craft filled with familiar-looking eggs. To be honest, the trailer didn't blow my mind, but it looks like it could be the best franchise entry since ALIENS, and I'm more than ready to give it a chance! (Holy shit! The latest trailer delivers more action and humor as we head out on another adventure with our favorite crew of intergalactic misfits! This time around, they are joined by former foes (Yondu and Nebula), and new teammate Mantis, who can read people's thoughts and emotions. And not only will the Guardians save the Galaxy from a new threat (Ego the Living Planet!) but Starlord (Chris Pratt) will finally discover who his biological father is! I adored the first film and can't wait to see what director James Gunn has in store for us this time! May can't get here fast enough!

I have been eagerly anticipating this all new reboot of King Kong, and can't wait to see how it fits into Legendary's GODZILLA universe! Members of a monster-hunting agency called Monarch investigate the mysterious "Skull Island" during a secret military mission. Then all hell breaks loose when they run afoul of Kong, the island's "king," as well as a multitude of giant prehistoric monsters! (Hmm... I'm starting to wonder if Kong's isle is going to be the "Monster Island" of the American Godzilla franchise?) Scope out the final trailer below and get excited Vault Dwellers!
