Ever since the fateful day I first witnessed THE LAST DRAGON on Cinemax in my youth (which I later taped off of TV so could watch it again at my leisure), I've been a huge fan! I've owned this movie on DVD and Blu-ray, and have the (now out of print) soundtrack CD (which I still play from time to time on road trips)! But now the chance to upgrade my current Blu-ray copy of this beloved 80s classic is here again with the release of Sony's new 4K Steelbook of Berry Gordy's Motown martial arts masterpiece! But should you make the leap to 4K for this particular title? Well let's take a look at what Sony Pictures is offering up here to help you make an informed decision. (Spoiler: The answer is yes! Always YES!)

Synopsis: Martial arts student Leroy Green (Taimak) is on a quest to obtain the elusive all-powerful force know as "The Glow." Along the way he must battle the evil, self-proclaimed Shogun of Harlem - a kung fu warrior also known as Sho-nuff (Julius J. Carry III) - and rescue a beautiful singer (Prince protege Vanity) from an obsessed record promoter.

Combining pulsating music, cutting edge dancing and the best in non-stop action, Berry Gordy's THE LAST DRAGON is kickin' good fun featuring an amazing Motown soundtrack, including music by Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Vanity, and Debarge performing their smash hit "Rhythm of the Night."

Aside from the 4K restoration and new Atmos track (and a commentary track that might be fun?), there's really not much here to warrant double-dipping if you already own THE LAST DRAGON on Blu-ray. However.... if you're a big fan of the movie, or the type of collector who must have the best audio & video presentation that's available, then by all means make the upgrade!
