Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

Greetings Vault Dwellers! Sorry for the lack of news posts lately, but it has been a crazy couple of weeks here at Vault HQ! The Vault Mistress and I welcomed our son into the world back on August 27th during a lengthy hospital visit. Long story short: There were medical concerns for momma, so they tried to induce labor. Our kid didn't want to come out, so the doctors had to go in.

And now, two weeks later, I'm trying to settle into my role as a parent as I return to my normal schedule at the day job, and somewhere in between all of that, I'll be devoting any little bit of spare time I have left to maintaining this blog and main website. Wish me luck gang, because I am definitely going to need it!

But enough about me: Ya'll came here to find out what's new on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD disc! Well, there's honestly not a lot to get excited about this week Vault Dwellers, but as always, there's a handful of titles worth adding to your growing collections!

Arrow Video brought both THE COMIC and Takashi Miike's GRAVEYARDS OF HONOR to Blu-ray disc this week, Kino Lorber Studio Classics debuted DR. WHO AND THE DALEKS and DALEKS' INVASION EARTH 2150 A.D. (both featuring the fantastic Peter Cushing as the titular character) on Blu-ray disc, and the classic GHOST IN THE SHELL anime made the leap to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray!

Along with a slew of Frolic Pictures triple (and double) feature DVDs (scroll down to see the entire list of them), DC/Warner Bros.' SUPERMAN: MAN OF TOMORROW, and a 60th anniversary edition Blu-ray of PSYCHO, there isn't much else to really shine the spotlight on, except for Universal's new THE ALFRED HITCHCOCK CLASSICS COLLECTION. This four film set features 4K restorations of REAR WINDOW, VERTIGO, (two different cuts of) PSYCHO, and THE BIRDS - naturally each disc comes with a variety of special features.

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

Greetings fellow collectors of physical media, and welcome to the final STOCK YOUR VAULT post of February 2020! There were a lot of great releases in the past few weeks, but this week in particular is loaded with new titles!

Tokyo Shock comes out of nowhere with a new (DVD and) Blu-ray release of GAPPA: THE TRIPHIBIAN MONSTER, Synapse brings the Unrated Producer's Cut of HOT DOG... THE MOVIE to DVD & Blu-ray, and Vinegar Syndrome just dropped their standard Blu-ray release of SPOOKIES for those that missed out on the Limited Edition!

Scream Factory's lone release this week is their Collector's Edition Blu-ray of PET SEMATARY TWO, Arrow Video brings DEADLY MANOR and the ONE MISSED CALL TRILOGY to Blu-ray, and Severin Films brings a trio of new titles to DVD and Blu-ray disc, including THE ASTROLOGER, CRIES OF PLEASURE, and NIGHT OF OPEN SEX.

Mill Creek Entertainment delivers a double dose of Ultraman today with two series that have never been released in the U.S. - THE RETURN OF ULTRAMAN and ULTRAMAN ORB: THE ORIGIN SAGA, while SRS Cinema brings a pair of indie kaiju flicks to Blu-ray disc, namely REIGO: KING OF THE SEA MONSTERS, and RAIGA: GOD OF THE MONSTERS! Also out today is Richard Stanley's COLOR OUT OF SPACE starring Nicolas Cage, which is supposedly the start of a new H.P. Lovecraft trilogy!

But my pick of the week has to be Mondo Macabro's all new Region Free Blu-ray of THE BEAST AND THE MAGIC SWORD, which features Paul Naschy in his signature role of Waldemar Daninsky! The film has been restored in 4K from an original negative and comes with a variety of extras, including interviews, an audio commentary, an introduction from Paul Naschy, and more!

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

Welcome to the second Tuesday of October 2019 Vault Dwellers! This week's release slate is decent, but is mostly populated by an insane number of double-feature DVDs from Frolic Pictures!

Modern Horror favorites ANNABELLE COMES HOME and MIDSOMMAR are now out on DVD & Blu-ray, as is the  Holiday "Zombedy" Musical ANNA AND THE APOCALYPSE, plus Paramount has just released a 4K Ultra HD double feature of Jordan Peele's US & GET OUT.

Cult Epics put out a Limited Edition Blu-ray set of NEKROMANTIK 1 & 2, Warner Archive debuts SHAZAM!: THE COMPLETE LIVE-ACTION SERIES on Blu-ray disc, Arrow Video gives Stanley Brasloff's obscure TOYS ARE NOT FOR CHILDREN a fantastic Blu-ray release, and Well Go USA brings Andrew Lau's KUNG FU MONSTER to North American collectors!

Kino Lorber rules the roost this week, with a trio of new Blu-ray titles. BABY BLOOD (aka THE EVIL WITHIN) is a gory French shocker featuring a bloodthirsty creature that is gestating within a host's womb, HERCULES IN THE HAUNTED WORLD has the heroic demigod visiting the realm of Hades to save the woman he loves in this Mario Bava classic, and MY BOYFRIEND'S BACK is a silly romantic comedy featuring a kid coming back from the dead to take his girlfriend to the prom! Both BABY BLOOD and HERCULES have new 2K transfers, and all three titles come with new extras (e.g. THREE different cuts of Bava's sword  & sandal epic)!

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

July 2018 has come to an end Vault Dwellers, and it is leaving with a whimper instead of a bang. Seriously, this week's release slate is absolutely dismal, though there are a few choice titles you may want to pick up.

Warner Archive Collection debuts 1960's VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED to Blu-ray disc, Sony Pictures brings PENDULUM to the HD format, and those wonderful folks from Vinegar Syndrome released a double-dose of titillation with LIQUID ASSETS and SHOWDOWN.

But the biggest treat this weak offers up has to be Scream Factory's long-awaited Blu-ray release of PIRANHA II: THE SPAWNING. Boasting a 2K transfer and new extras, this crazy sequel (that was briefly helmed by James Cameron) finally gets the love it so richly deserves.

READ FILMMAKER JARED MASTERS' FIRST SEVEN SCREENPLAYS IN THEIR ENTIRETY!

Jared Masters is the President of Frolic Pictures and released a book containing seven of his earliest screenplays last March! This 700-page book includes the scripts for DIE HIGH, CURIOUS AND LIKING IT, ZOOMLAND, BRATWURST, GERALD'S MISTRESS, THE JILTED LOVER, and ADDERALL: THE MOVIE.

Here's a message about the book from Jared Masters himself:

"It has been said that a screenwriter must write seven scripts before it “clicks” in their mind and finally something worthwhile may be created. Perhaps this knowledge holds merit because after writing all these I wrote SLINK, which was produced a few years later and gained some attention in the horror community.

It takes a great deal of time and energy to develop one’s style, and as I look back on these seven screenplays I see how I have grown as a writer but at the same time appreciate the vulnerability and freshness that blanket my early work. Perhaps someday some of them will be granted the highly coveted voice of the silver screen.

I started writing poetry in 2000, at the age of fourteen and soon took much interest in the screenwriting form. I read many books on the subject and, in 2003, based my first full-length script, DIE HIGH, on a personal experience that somewhat rattled me. I then adapted many of my preexisting poems into my next screenplay, CURIOUS AND LIKING IT. Its story is very experimental and unlike anything else I’ve yet attempted.

My interests in the bizarre and avant-garde seem to have continued in ZOOMLAND (originally titled ALONE IN A BOAT). I recently modified it to be somewhat of a children’s story and quite proud of it for its unique storyline and imaginative setting. I also tried my hand at more serious narrative dramas and dark comedies, such as GERALD'S MISTRESS, BRATWURST, and THE JILTED LOVER. These three have a similar tonality to them, and perhaps helped nurture my flare for dialogue.

ADDERALL: THE MOVIE is definitely one of my most commercial, and I feel it could do well if made. It may be worth mentioning that these scripts were written with the intention of being sold to a major Hollywood studio.  When I realized how difficult it is to penetrate those gates I grew weary and concerned that my stories would never reach the distant light of a projector’s lamp.

I never had the intention or means to produce my own scripts, until one day in 2009, when I discovered a little film called NUDE ON THE MOON by Doris Wishman. The vast world of exploitation cinema was opened and a new realm of possibilities was revealed to me. Since then, I have produced a dozen feature films, all which I have written, but written with the budget in mind.

This is a concept many writers simply cannot grasp, and that may be fine for them, but for me it was essential in turning a stack of paper most people would have no desire to read, into an actual movie many are willing to experience. Some writers have been fortunate to have their very first script produced to great success, but this is comparable to a freak accident, and certainly won’t apply to most. It makes sense to me that if you write long enough, and hard enough, something will eventually be considered truly good."

BALLET OF BLOOD pirouettes onto DVD & VHS this December!

"BALLET OF BLOOD" ARRIVING ON DVD & VHS ON DECEMBER 5TH!

Jared Masters is a young indie filmmaker who has been cranking out feature films and shorts since 2009. His latest is a dark comedy/horror film about a psychopathic ballet dancer. Could be fun!

Synopsis: Her mind was a forest of blood. She craved insanity. The motion picture that has been regarded as the most highly anticipated underground horror film of 2015 has poked its head out of the dark cinematic sea to release its first official trailer.

BALLET OF BLOOD is a film about deadly ballerinas. Its creator, Jared Masters, has always loved the ballet, and really got to express that in this picture. The million-dollar mermaid Sydney Raye stars as Nisa, the sick and sexy psychopath that sprays bullets and seduces her dance instructor, without even trying. Will she get away with her plans of murdering everybody at the company? Ballet of Blood, a psychedelic deluge in terror.

Written and directed by Masters, the film co-stars Jessica Knopf as the partner in crime. Laura Amelia as the dance teacher, Delphine, and Julia Faye West as company co-owner, Wren Heyward. The film also features Mindy Robinson as the prima ballerina, Sylvie, with Walter Hochbrueckner, Vera R. Taylor, Rubi Garcia, Marla Martinez, Jacqueline Marie Alberto, Dawna Lee Heising, Dallas Chandler, Krystall Schott, Georgie Borchardt, Sky Patterson, Christopher Arias, Kimberly Cohen, Marylyn Brooks, Tristan Alexander and Shelise Hufstetler.

BALLET OF BLOOD recently won the Audience Choice Award at the RIP International Horror Film Festival, and is slated for a DVD (and VHS!) release on December 5th! A VOD release is planned for sometime in March 2016!

There's some hilarious dialogue in this trailer! Here's a few choice quotes that made me chuckle:

Girl 1: "I'm only six pounds heavier than last season."
