Arrow Video Has T.U.R.T.L.E. Power! - The Original TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES TRILOGY is Coming to 4K!

Artwork for Arrow Video's upcoming TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 4K TRILOGY!
ARROW VIDEO BRINGS THE LIVE-ACTION TRILOGY TO 4K UHD ON DECEMBER 16TH WITH HOURS OF NEW BONUS FEATURES!

Having just seen the 35th Anniversary limited theatrical re-release of the 1990 TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, I gotta say that not only does the film still hold up remarkably well, but it looks fantastic! And you bet your shell that I'll be making the upgrade to 4K, especially since so much behind-the-scenes footage has been discovered and likely to be included in this release!

If you already own these movies on Blu-ray (like I do), you may thinking "why do I need to spend more money on something that's currently in my collection?!" Well, the easy answer is you don't. BUT if you're a fan of these films and, more importantly, the characters, you probably won't be able to help yourself once you peep out the specs & extras! Let's pop open a manhole cover and take a closer look!

Synopses: A shell-shocking saga of mutants, martial arts and New York mayhem, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trilogy brought comic book grit, practical effects wizardry and pizza-fuelled fun to a generation of moviegoers, helping turn four sewer-dwelling brothers into global pop culture icons.

Launching in 1990 with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, director Steve Barron's gritty, high-energy adaptation of the underground comic became a box office phenomenon, fusing martial arts action, streetwise humor, and the groundbreaking animatronics of Jim Henson's Creature Shop

The 1991 sequel The Secret of the Ooze is an irresistibly fun second slice: a deep-dive into the turtles' origins where new mutant foes Tokka and Rahzar are thrown in the mix... double the stakes, double the pizza!

Rounding out the trilogy, 1993's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III sends the heroes in a half shell back to feudal Japan in a time-travel adventure full of samurai showdowns, ancient legends, and comic chaos.

Restored in glorious 4K and packed with extras, this radical set celebrates the legacy of Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael in one of the most iconic franchises of the era, blending innovative effects, comic-book heart, and early '90s attitude.

He Wants Your Body... In Pieces! DEATH SCREAMS Makes Its Blu-ray Debut on September 28th!

Cover art for Arrow Video's Limited Edition Blu-ray of DEATH SCREAMS!
ARROW VIDEO GIVES DAVID NELSON'S LONG FORGOTTEN SLASHER FLICK A NEW LEASE ON LIFE WITH THEIR NEW LIMITED EDITION RELEASE!

I'm an absolute sucker for slasher flicks! From the major franchises, to the multitude of international standalone films featuring psychotic killers, I've seen just about everything the sub-genre has to offer. But every now and again, some rare or obscure slasher movie claws its way up from the depths to be rescued by a boutique Blu-ray label. Which brings me of course to DEATH SCREAMS! The folks at Arrow Video got their hands on the only existing 35mm print of this film and have given it a new 2K restoration, along with a variety of new bonus features (which include two audio commentaries and a making-of documentary)! I have to admit that I'm totally in the dark on this one Vault Dwellers, but that didn't stop me from blindly pre-ordering a copy once I learned of its existence! If you're on the fence about picking up a copy of DEATH SCREAMS, continue onward to learn more about this (mostly) forgotten slice of slasher film history!

Even more limited edition O-Card artwork for Arrow Video's DEATH SCREAMS Blu-ray!

Synopsis:
In one of the most unlikely cinematic pairings of all time, David Nelson (who rose to fame as a child star playing alongside his real-life family in the wholesome TV show The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet) directs Playboy Playmate and adult star Susan Kiger in this bodycount-heavy, long overlooked slice of Southern fried hack-and-slash – 1982's DEATH SCREAMS!

Late one night, a young couple are brutally murdered at a make-out spot by an unseen assailant, their bodies tossed into the nearby river. As the lifeless lovers drift slowly downstream, the residents of the town excitedly prepare themselves for their annual carnival, unaware that a machete-wielding maniac with a twisted grudge is lurking in their midst. When a group of teen revelers plan a late-night after party down in the local cemetery, they unwittingly set the stage for a bloodbath.

DEATH SCREAMS, which was released on US VHS as HOUSE OF DEATH (and on UK DVD with the reels in the wrong order!) oozes early '80s regional slasher charm from its every pore, boasting an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink final reel featuring slashed throats, bisected bodies, and exploding heads. At long last arriving on Blu-ray and lovingly restored from the only-known existing 35mm print, this little-seen slasher classic is ready to carve its way into the bleeding hearts of horror fans everywhere!

For Each of Man's Evils, A Special Demon Exists - Get Scream Factory's Limited Edition Blu-ray Steelbook of PUMPKINHEAD Today!

Scream Factory's Limited Edition Steelbook of PUMPKINHEAD!
PREPARE TO DOUBLE-DIP ON STAN WINSTON'S "PUMPKINHEAD" - NOW WITH A NEW 4K TRANSFER AND GORGEOUS STEELBOOK PACKAGING!

I keep joking that Scream Factory has become the new Anchor Bay because they keep re-releasing certain titles with new packaging and/or transfers - case in point, their new steelbook of PUMPKINHEAD. Originally released by Scream Factory as a perfectly acceptable Collector's Edition back in September of 2014, this beloved creature feature has been given a noticeable video upgrade, contains all of the previous Blu-ray's special features, and comes housed in a beautifully-designed Steelbook case! Whether you already own this film on Blu-ray yet or not, you have to admit that this is definitely pretty damned enticing! Let's take a closer look, shall we?

Synopsis: When a group of teenagers inadvertently kill his only son, Ed Harley (Lance Henriksen - ALIENS) seeks the powers of a backwoods witch to bring the child back to life. But instead, she invokes "Pumpkinhead" – a monstrously clawed demon which, once reborn, answers only to Ed's bloodlust. But as the creature wreaks its slow, unspeakable tortures on the teens, Ed confronts a horrifying secret about his connection to the beast – and realizes that he must find a way to stop its deadly mission before he becomes one with the creature forever. A terrifying parable of revenge and possession, PUMPKINHEAD also stars Jeff East (DEADLY BLESSING), Joel Hoffman (SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE II), and Kerry Remsen (A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2: FREDDY'S REVENGE).

Disc Specs:
Rated R | Color | 86 minutes | Region A
Video - 1080p Widescreen (1.85:1)
Audio - English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 & 2.0 Stereo

Extras:
  • NEW! 4K Scan From The Interpositive Film Element!
  • Audio Commentary With Co-Screenwriter Gary Gerani And Creature & FX Creators Tom Woodruff, Jr. And Alec Gillis, Moderated By Filmmaker Scott Spiegel!

  • Remembering The Monster Kid – A Tribute To Stan Winston!
  • Demonic Toys – A Look At The Creation Of A Pumpkinhead Action Figure!
  • Behind-The-Scenes Footage
  • Theatrical Trailer
  • Still Gallery

Though it doesn't bring much else new to the table other than a new transfer and packaging (which will likely be eclipsed by the inevitable 4K Ultra HD release), Scream Factory's limited edition steelbook of PUMPKINHEAD is perty to look at, and a definite must-own title in its own right! This re-release is currently going for prices between $23 - $29, and can be ordered right now from AMAZON, BULL MOOSE, DIABOLIK DVD, or directly from SHOUT! FACTORY!

On June 2nd, Universal Gives JAWS a New 4K Release for its 45th Anniversary!

New cover art for Universal's 45th Anniversary 4K UHD of Spielberg's JAWS!
JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT IT WAS SAFE TO STOP UPGRADING TITLES IN YOUR MOVIE COLLECTION: "JAWS" ARRIVES ON 4K ULTRA HD DISC!

I've owned JAWS in various formats over the decades (twice on VHS, twice on DVD, once on Blu-ray), played the video games, read the book (several times), reviewed and podcasted about Spielberg's iconic movie, and even took a fantastic "JAWS Tour" on Martha's Vineyard several years ago! I can quote JAWS almost verbatim, and have seen it in 35mm twice while chugging some Narragansett beer - needless to say, it is my favorite film of all time! Universal's last Blu-ray release of this Spielberg classic was a revelation - the film was color-corrected, cleaned up considerably, and given an amazing new audio track that made experiencing JAWS at home even more immersive! There was absolutely no way that this film could be improved upon.... UNTIL NOW!

Synopsis: When a young woman is killed by a shark while skinny-dipping near the New England tourist town of Amity Island, police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) wants to close the beaches, but mayor Larry Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) overrules him, fearing that the loss of tourist revenue will cripple the town. Ichthyologist Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and grizzled ship captain Quint (Robert Shaw) offer to help Brody capture the killer beast, and the trio engage in an epic battle of man vs. nature.

Directed by Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg, JAWS set the standard for edge-of-your-seat suspense, quickly becoming a cultural phenomenon and forever changing the movie industry. Featuring an amazing cast, and an unforgettable score that evokes pure terror, JAWS remains one of the most influential and gripping adventures in motion picture history!

And I need the absolute best version of this film that I can get my paws on dammit! Universal's 45th Anniversary Limited Edition 4K release of JAWS swims up and bites retailers on the ass on Tuesday, June 2, and should cost between $20 - $24! LET'S SCARE JESSICA TO DEATH With Some BODY PARTS at THE SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE!

Cover art for Scream Factory's Blu-ray of Eric Red's BODY PARTS.
EVIL LIMB DONORS, VENGEANCE FROM THE GRAVE, AND DRILLER KILLERS HIGHLIGHT SCREAM FACTORY'S FINAL TRIO OF TITLES FOR JANUARY 2020!

I own the SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE films on DVD and would like to eventually upgrade them to Blu-ray (i.e. when Parts II & III come back into print), and I'm definitely interested in scoping out LET'S SCARE JESSICA TO DEATH, but BODY PARTS is easily the Scream Factory release I'm most excited for. Written and directed by Eric Red (a screenwriter and filmmaker that doesn't get nearly enough praise) and featuring Jeff Fahey and Brad Dourif, this early 90s Horror flick has managed to evade me for decades! But now, thanks to Scream Factory's efforts, I will finally be able to watch this oft-overlooked classic in HD!

BODY PARTS (1991)

Synopsis: From Eric Red, the writer of THE HITCHER and NEAR DARK, comes this tale of a medical experiment gone very wrong.

Bill Chrushank is a criminal psychologist who loses his arm and nearly his life in a grisly car accident. A daring medical operation follows, in which a donor's arm is successfully grafted onto Bill's body. But after the operation, the arm starts to take on a violent life of its own, striking out against Bill's wife and children. Consumed by fears about his dangerous behavior, Bill is driven to learn the donor's identity – and makes a horrifying discovery that delivers him into a world of unimaginable terror. Written and directed by Eric Red (COHEN & TATE, BAD MOON), this thriller stars Jeff Fahey (ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL) and Brad Dourif (CHILD'S PLAY, GRAVEYARD SHIFT).

Disc Specs:
Rated R | Color | 88 minutes | Region A
Video - 1080p Widescreen (2.35:1)
Audio - English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono

Extras:
  • NEW! Audio Commentary With Director Eric Red!
  • NEW! I Dare You To Read The Script – An Interview With Director Eric Red!
  • NEW! Something Unstoppable – An Interview With Actor Paul Ben-Victor!

  • NEW! That One Hurt – An Interview With Editor Anthony Redman!
  • Deleted Gore Footage With Optional Commentary With Director Eric Red!
  • Theatrical Trailer
  • TV Spots
  • Still Gallery
Though it's a shame they couldn't snag interviews with Fahey or Dourif, the (over) two hours of special features on this disc more than make up for that! Scream Factory's Blu-ray of BODY PARTS is now available wherever Blu-ray discs are sold and should cost between $23 - $25! Order yourself a copy today from AMAZON, BULL MOOSE, DIABOLIK DVD, or directly from SHOUT! FACTORY.

Cover art for Blue Underground's 3-Disc Limited Edition of Lucio Fulci's HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY!
BLUE UNDERGROUND GIVES THE FINAL FILM IN LUCIO FULCI'S "GATES OF HELL TRILOGY" A FANTASTIC 3-DISC BLU-RAY RELEASE!

Out of all the Italian Horror filmmakers that were cranking out movies in the 70s and 80s, I always liked Lucio Fulci the best. I enjoyed the bold absurdity of ZOMBI 2's shark vs. zombie sequence, and gawked at the gore in THE BEYOND and CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD (aka GATES OF HELL) while I tried to figure out just what the hell was going on! And though it isn't my favorite of Fulci's "Gates of Hell trilogy" (though it does have quite a memorable bat attack) I am quite glad to see HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY get the royal treatment from Blue Underground! Boasting a new 4K restoration from the original camera negative, plus new special features and other goodies, this 3-Disc release is easily a must-have for fans of Italian Horror cinema!

Synopsis: A young family moves from their cramped New York City apartment to a spacious new home in New England. But this is no ordinary house in the country: the previous owner was the deranged Dr. Freudstein, whose monstrous human experiments have left a legacy of bloody mayhem. Now, someone-or something-is alive in the basement, and home sweet home is about to become a horrific hell on earth.

Watch Out For Snakes! - EEGAH is Now Available on Limited Edition Blu-ray!

Cover art for Limited Edition EEGAH! Blu-ray!
THE FILM DETECTIVE TEAMED UP WITH SOMETHING WEIRD VIDEO FOR A SUPER LIMITED SPECIAL EDITION BLU-RAY OF AN MST3K CLASSIC!

Had it not been for a little show called Mystery Science Theater 3000, EEGAH (along with hundreds of other film oddities) likely would have faded away into obscurity. Released in 1962 and created by Arch Hall Sr. as a sort of vanity project for his son, (singer Arch Hall Jr.) this strange movie contains several musical numbers, and Richard Kiel (THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, THINK BIG, HAPPY GILMORE) as a caveman still alive in modern times! And now, unbelievably, EEGAH has been given a 4K restoration and released to Blu-ray disc, thanks to the efforts of The Film Detective and Something Weird Video! But there are only 1,500 of these in existence so if you want a copy, order it immediately or forever live in regret!

Synopsis: Originally designed as a vehicle for his son, filmmaker Arch Hall Sr. assumed the roles of writer, producer, director, and actor to bring the film to fruition, utilizing pseudonyms like "Nicholas Merriwether" and "William Watters" to prevent his name from appearing multiple times in the credits.

Incorporating all of the rock 'n' roll, pop culture staples of the '60s, he added a rampaging, seven-foot-tall Neanderthal to create the thrilling comedy, which follows Eegah (Richard Kiel), a prehistoric caveman who is nearly run over by Roxy Miller (Marilyn Manning) on her way to a party. Forming a romantic interest in the young beauty, Eegah holds Roxy and her father (Hall Sr.) captive in his lair. It's up to local gas station attendant Tom Nelson (Hall Jr.) to rescue his sweetheart from the lovestruck brute.

A TEENAGE CRIME SPREE AND A SEXY ADVENTURE IN THE LAND OF YIK YAK AWAIT YOU IN SEVERIN FILMS' TWO NEWEST BLU-RAY RELEASES!

Few labels have kept me on my toes as much as Severin Films has! While Scream Factory, Arrow Video, and Kino have been cranking out a lot of quality stuff, Severin has been comfortably occupying their own niche with a steady stream of exploitation titles from around the world! Speaking of which, Severin Films just dropped two new titles onto Blu-ray disc today: Penelope Spheeris' THE BOYS NEXT DOOR, which features Maxwell Caulfield and Charlie Sheen as rampaging teens, and GWENDOLINE, an adventure film filled to the brim with topless women, including Tawny Kitaen and Zabou Breitman! Patti D'Arbanville (BILITIS) and Christopher McDonald (REQUIEM FOR A DREAM) co-star in this "descent into Hell" (BirthMoviesDeath.com) featuring music by Iggy Pop, Tex & The Horseheads and The Cramps!

It's Not Human, and it's Got an Axe: THE PREY Gets an Amazing Limited Edition Blu-ray Release on October 1st!

Blu-ray cover for Arrow Video's Limited Edition of THE PREY!
ARROW VIDEO GIVES ONE OF THE 80'S LESSER SLASHER FILMS A BLU-RAY RELEASE TO BE PROUD OF!

For as long as I can remember, I have had a love/hate relationship with Edwin Brown's THE PREY. It was one of the earliest slasher films I watched, and while it does have its moments, it is honestly a chore to sit through. But every so often, I watch THE PREY again just to make sure I still hate it. So maybe, in some strange way.... I actually like this movie, because I've revisited it multiple times over the years. Perhaps that's why I'm suddenly so keen on owning Arrow's new Blu-ray which offers up a new 2K transfer, tons of new extras, and THREE CUTS OF THE FILM?! Whaaaaa?

Synopsis: One of the most underrated efforts to hail from the slice-and-dice boom, THE PREY at last emerges from the VHS wilderness in a brand new 2K restoration from the recently unearthed original camera negative!

Three young couples set off into the mountains for a weekend of climbing, drinking, and lovemaking. But little do they know that they are stumbling into the terrain of a fearsome predator – a wild man, horrifically burned as a child many years ago in a fire which engulfed his gypsy camp and left only him alive. Now he roams the woods in search of his next human prey.

Filmed in 1979-1980 – making it a contemporary, rather than an imitator, of the likes of FRIDAY THE 13TH – but not released until 1983 when it was picked up by New World Pictures, THE PREY is a unique woodsy slasher gem ripe for reappraisal in this extras-packed, 40th anniversary edition!

Disc Specs:

Blu-ray cover for Unearthed Films' DEEP WEB XXX.
SHOCKING ANTHOLOGY NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER FROM UNEARTHED FILMS!

There's a lot of ballyhoo surrounding this latest title from Unearthed Films - almost seems like a modernized version of FACES OF DEATH. Arrow Video Brings Wes Craven's THE HILLS HAVE EYES PART 2 and Aldo Lado's WHO SAW HER DIE? to Blu-ray on September 17th!

Blu-ray cover for Arrow Video's Limited Edition Blu-ray of Wes Craven's THE HILLS HAVE EYES PART 2.
A MOTOCROSS TEAM BATTLES CANNIBALS IN THE DESERT & JAMES BOND TRACKS A KILLER IN THE CANALS OF VENICE IN ARROW'S LATEST RELEASES!

I'm a big fan of Wes Craven's THE HILLS HAVE EYES, and yet, I've never seen it's sequel (even though I own the Kino Lorber Blu-ray release). I plan on changing that in the near future though - the dog flashback sequences alone seem worth the price of admission! And I'm still a neophyte when it comes to giallo films, which means I've never laid eyes on WHO SAW HER DIE? A Venetian murder mystery with George Lazenby sounds too good to pass up! If you're as curious as I am about these two new Blu-ray titles, then continue reading for a closer look!

THE HILLS HAVE EYES PART 2 (1985)

Synopsis: The hills are once again alive with the sound of screaming in Wes Craven's hugely entertaining follow-up to his own groundbreaking 1977 film THE HILLS HAVE EYES. A motocross team on their way to trial a new super-fuel head out across the desert lead by Rachel, who, unbeknownst to the rest of the group, is a survivor of the cannibal clan which menaced the Carter family several years before.

Opting to take an ill-advised shortcut across the desert, the busload of youngsters drive straight into the path of the remnants of Rachel's demented cannibal kin - the menacing Pluto, and a hulking, blood-hungry brute by the name of "The Reaper." Made by Wes Craven immediately prior to his smash-hit A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, THE HILLS HAVE EYES PART 2 diverges from the grim tone of its predecessor in favour of fun action-horror thrills and spills replete with mutants, motorbikes, and - oh yes - dog flashbacks!

Disc Specs:

Video - 1080p Widescreen (1.85:1)
Audio - English: LPCM Mono

Extras:
  • NEW! 2K restoration from original film elements!

Blu-ray Cover for Arrow Video's WHO SAW HER DIE? directed by Aldo Lado and starring George Lazenby.
WHO SAW HER DIE? (1972)

Synopsis: Former Bond star George Lazenby (ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE, THE MAN FROM HONG KONG) headlines this classic giallo directed by Aldo Lado (SHORT NIGHT OF GLASS DOLLS, NIGHT TRAIN MURDERS) - as compelling for its haunting atmosphere, twists and turns as for its parallels with another great Venetian horror/thriller - Nicolas Roeg's DON'T LOOK NOW.

Sculptor Franco Serpieri (Lazenby) welcomes Roberta (Nicoletta Elmi - DEEP RED) - his young daughter from a failed marriage - to Venice, unaware that a disturbed child-killer is stalking the city's canals. When Roberta's body is found floating face-down in the river, the lives of Franco and his estranged wife Elizabeth (Anita Strindberg - THE CASE OF THE SCORPION'S TAIL) are ripped asunder. Desperate for vengeance, Franco turns detective in a bid to track down his daughter's killer, and in the process unearths shocking evidence of depravity and corruption which implicates some of the most respected figures in Venetian society.

Released at the height of the giallo boom, this gripping mystery thriller boasts some of the most iconic names associated with the genre on both sides of the camera. Co-starring Dominique Boschero (THE IGUANA WITH THE TONGUE OF FIRE) and Adolfo Celi (THUNDERBALL), and featuring one of the all-time greatest scores from maestro Ennio Morricone (WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO SOLANGE?), WHO SAW HER DIE? thrills anew in its high definition debut!
