Vinegar Syndrome Ends February 2019 With Four Great New Releases!

BATTLE FOR THE LOST PLANET, MUTANT WAR, PARTY LINE, TINSELTOWN, AND WACKO ALL MAKE THEIR BLU-RAY DEBUTS TODAY!

I gotta say Vault Dwellers, Vinegar Syndrome has really upped their game in the past few years! More and more of their titles have found a home in my personal collection, and I doubt that trend is going to stop because their latest batch of new releases is pretty freakin' awesome! Let's take a closer look at the four new Blu-ray/DVD combo packs that VinSyn has just put out!

BATTLE FOR THE LOST PLANET (1986) & MUTANT WAR (1988)

Synopses: In BATTLE FOR THE LOST PLANET rogue master thief Harry Trent (Matt Mitler) who, in an attempt to steal military secrets, found himself stranded alone in space for years, finally returns to earth only to discover that the planet has been taken over by vicious gangs of alien mutants. Finding himself forced into a fight for his life, Harry is soon discovered and taken in by a beautiful warrior (Denise Coward) and her resistance group who hope to outwit the extra terrestrial invaders and reclaim the planet.

MUTANT WAR continues the story, finding Harry still at odds with conquering aliens, but this time having to contend with an even deadlier enemy: another human. After meeting a young girl who begs him to help save her family, Harry learns of power hungry deviate Reinhart Rex, a futuristic white slaver that kidnaps young women for breeding purposes. Can Harry outwit Reinhart while still escaping the clutches of flesh eating mutants?

Two early features from celebrated sci-fi director and practical effects artist Brett Piper, BATTLE FOR THE LOST PLANET and MUTANT WAR are chock full of Ray Harryhausen inspired stop motion animation and epic no-budget battle sequences. Vinegar Syndrome presents these two nearly impossible to see rarities on disc for the first time anywhere in the world!

PARTY LINE (1988)

Synopsis: Brother and sister Seth and Stacy live a secluded life in their family's beautiful Beverly Hills mansion. But these upper class siblings share a dark and violent hobby of using sexually driven 'party lines' to meet and lure lustful strangers into a deadly ménage à trois, the climax of which is a razor slash to the throat! With the victim count steadily rising, Detective Dan is under the gun to crack the case, but when his girlfriend falls prey to the maniacal duo, Dan goes rogue, taking his own violent measures to dispense justice.

Juxtaposing a slasher film setup with police drama and erotic thriller plot points, William Webb's PARTY LINE is a forgotten oddity, bridging the late 80s slasher craze with the soon to rise early 90s 'skinemax' obsession. Starring Leif Garret (DEVIL TIMES FIVE), Shawn Weatherly (Baywatch), Richard Roundtree (SHAFT), and Richard Hatch (Battlestar Galactica) and stylishly photographed by renowned visual effects cinematographer, John Huneck (THE TERMINATOR).

Synopsis: Mary Jo Harmon is a small town country girl who dreams of moving to Hollywood to pursue her ambition of becoming a famous movie star. But no sooner than arriving, her fantasies of glitz and glamour begin to get chipped away, as she learns that all of the things she's heard about LA's sleazy casting couches, lecherous producers, and perverted parties are…absolutely true! Will Mary Jo ever be able to fulfill her dream, as the world around her turns into an ever greater orgy of disappointment?

Director Carter Stevens' (ROLLERBABIES) only West Coast shot film, TINSELTOWN stars Tawny Pearl (TABOO), Eric Edwards, Rhonda Jo Petty (LITTLE ORPHAN DUSTY), Randy West, Pat Manning, Mike Ranger, Jennifer West, David Morris and Jake Teague, along with a memorable supporting performance from William Margold as grizzled talent agent, Morty Green. Nearly impossible to see following its brief VHS release in the early 80s, Vinegar Syndrome brings TINSELTOWN to Blu-ray newly restored from its 35mm negative and featuring an all new commentary track with director Carter Stevens!

Now, after the unexpected escape of a prisoner from the state mental hospital, who may or may not be the killer, it's up to hard-nosed gumshoe Dick Harbinger to solve the case before the Lawnmower Killer seeks out a new slew of victims at the upcoming Pumpkin Prom, that is if anyone is able to survive the hilarious horror hijinks leading up to it!

A raucous parody of horror films and teen sex comedies, predating the Scary Movie franchise by nearly two decades, director Greydon Clark's (WITHOUT WARNING, UNINVITED) WACKO features a mind blowing ensemble cast including Joe Don Baker (GOLDENEYE, FLETCH), Stella Stevens (THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE), George Kennedy (CHARADE, THE NAKED GUN TRILOGY), Charles Napier (THE BLUES BROTHERS, SUPERVIXENS), Julia Duffy (The Doctors), and Andrew Dice Clay in his first feature film role! Never officially released on DVD and barely available in any format since the 80s!

On April 23rd, Kino Lorber Will Let You SCREAM AND SCREAM AGAIN!

A SERIAL KILLER IS LOOSE ON THE STREETS OF LONDON IN THIS 1970 CLASSIC!

Somehow I have failed to see Gordon Hessler's SCREAM AND SCREAM AGAIN, which boasts the amazing talent of Vincent Price, Christopher Lee, and Peter Cushing! (Which reminds me.... I still haven't seen HOUSE OF THE LONG SHADOWS either! Doh!) Out of print since Twilight Time's Limited Edition in 2015, SCREAM AND SCREAM AGAIN returns to Blu-ray (after being pushed back twice) courtesy of Kino Lorber Studio Classics!

Synopsis: A serial killer who drains his victims' blood is on the loose in London! They hunger for power, thirst for blood–and make each helpless, pleading victim SCREAM AND SCREAM AGAIN! Horror legends Vincent Price (TALES OF TERROR), Christopher Lee (HOUSE OF THE LONG SHADOWS) and Peter Cushing (MADHOUSE) star in this masterwork of style and suspense about a group of sadistic madmen plotting to take over the world–one severed body part at a time.

Directed by cult filmmaker Gordon Hessler (THE OBLONG BOX) with a screenplay by Christopher Wicking (CRY OF THE BANSHEE) and based on a novel by Peter Saxon (Murder at Site 3). Co-starring Judy Huxtable (THE PSYCHOPATH).

Now Available on Blu-ray: Bela Lugosi Rises from the Grave in THE RETURN OF THE VAMPIRE!

SCREAM FACTORY DEBUTS THIS CLASSIC HORROR TALE ON BLU-RAY WITH THREE NEW AUDIO COMMENTARIES!

Intended to be a followup to DRACULA, this oft-forgotten Horror classic features Lugosi as a "different" vampire, who is accidentally freed during a Nazi bombing raid! I've been meaning to see this one for a while (mostly to see Lugosi's werewolf servant in action), and it looks like Scream Factory's new Blu is the way to go!

Synopsis: Bela Lugosi rises from the crypt in this blood-curdling horror classic! In 1918, Armand Tesla (Bela Lugosi), a 200-year-old Hungarian Vampire, prowls the English countryside, feeding from the jugulars of the villagers. But Tesla's reign of terror is interrupted when a pair of scientists, Lady Jane (Frieda Inescort) and Sir John Ainsley (Roland Varno), drive a railroad spike through his heart.

The "un-dead" Tesla remains safely entombed for two decades until the impact from a stray Nazi bomb accidentally releases him. Along with his werewolf servant Andreas Obry (Matt Willis), the resurrected vampire now plots vengeance on the family that put a halt to his nocturnal feasting!

Disc Specs:
Not Rated | Black & White | 70 minutes | Region A

  • NEW! Audio Commentary with author/film historian Gary Don Rhodes!
  • NEW! Audio Commentary with film historian Lee Gambin!

Holy cow! At the most, I expected this release to be bare bones with a trailer at most! The inclusion of an 8mm version plus a trio of audio commentaries (I bet the Lee Gambin is worth the price of admission alone) makes this a must-have in my book! Scream's THE RETURN OF THE VAMPIRE Blu-ray is now available and should cost between $23 - $25! Order a copy now from AMAZON, BULL MOOSE, DIABOLIK DVD, or directly from SHOUT! FACTORY.

OVERLORD Now Available on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD!

JAMES AVERY'S WORLD WAR II-ERA HORROR FILM NOW AVAILABLE ON ALL FORMATS!

I missed out on OVERLORD when it came to theaters last year, but finally got to see this J.J. Abrams production the other day, and I was pleasantly surprised by it! While its not the first film to tackle the Horror genre in war-torn 1940's Germany (see also FRANKENSTEIN'S ARMY), this movie did it better than most. It has likeable characters, great effects, and edge-of-your-seat action sequences - I'm definitely going to be adding it to my movie collection!

Synopsis: With only hours until D-Day, a team of American paratroopers (Wyatt Russell, Iain DeCaestecker, Jovan Adepo, and John Magaro) drop into Nazi-occupied France to carry out a mission that's crucial to the invasion's success. Tasked with destroying a radio transmitter atop a fortified church, the desperate soldiers join forces with a young French villager to penetrate the walls and take down the tower.

But, in a mysterious Nazi lab beneath the church, the outnumbered G.I.s come face-to-face with enemies unlike any the world has ever seen. From producer J.J. Abrams, Overlord is a thrilling, pulse-pounding action adventure with a twist!

John Badham's DRACULA Once Again Rises from its Blu-ray Tomb on February 19th!

THE 1979 ADAPTATION OF BRAM STOKER'S NOVEL RETURNS TO BLU-RAY, SANS A DIGITAL COPY.

Since the 1930s, there has been so many iterations of Count Dracula on film: From Bela Lugosi, to William Marshall, to John Carradine, and Duncan Regher I've just about seen them all. And yet I've never taken the time to watch Frank Langella in the role as the immortal Count. I've definitely gotta knock this one off my (eternally growing) list of films I need to watch!

Also, I must note that this Blu-ray disc seems to just be a cheaper re-release with the same specs & extras as the last DRACULA Blu. The only noticeable difference is the lack of a digital Ultraviolet copy of the film. (Which is no big loss seeing as how Ultraviolet will be going extinct this April.)

Synopsis: Throughout history, Dracula has filled men's hearts with fear – and the hearts of women with desire. In this stylish production of Bram Stoker's classic tale, Frank Langella (MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE) gives an electrifying performance as the bloodthirsty Count Dracula in search for his ultimate bride. Meanwhile, the renowned and relentless vampire hunter, Van Helsing (Laurence Olivier - CLASH  THE TITANS), seeks to end the Dark Prince's reign of terror over the citizens of Transylvania. Featuring a mesmerizing cast, fine direction and a superbly atmospheric musical score, Dracula is an unforgettable adaptation of one of the most enduring horror legends of all time.

Disc Specs:
Rated R | Color | 109 minutes | Region A
Video - 1080p Widescreen (2.35:1)
Audio - DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 and Dolby Digital 2.0

Extras:
  • The Revamping of Dracula featurette.
  • Feature Commentary with Director John Badham!
  • Universal Classic Monsters Trailer
  • Dracula TV Series Trailer
DRACULA (1979) returns to Blu-ray on Tuesday, February 19th and should cost around $10! Order yourself a copy now from AMAZON or BULL MOOSE!

COLOR ME BLOOD RED Comes to Blu-ray on February 19th!

ARROW VIDEO BRINGS THE FINAL INSTALLMENT OF H.G. LEWIS' "BLOOD TRILOGY" TO BLU-RAY!

After releasing the incredible HERSCHELL GORDON LEWIS FEAST boxed set back in October of 2016, Arrow has slowly been putting each of H.G. Lewis' gore-flicks out separately. And this week, COLOR ME BLOOD RED gets its due with this really solid Blu-ray release from Arrow Video!

Synopsis: For the third and final installment in his infamous 'Blood Trilogy', COLOR ME BLOOD RED, splatter movie pioneer Herschell Gordon Lewis turned to the world of fine art for this tortured tale of a troubled artist turned homicidal maniac. Painter Adam Sorge has found himself in a bit of a creative lull. But when his girlfriend accidentally cuts her finger, he realizes what his work has been missing all this time - human blood!

With pressure mounting from local gallery owner Farnsworth to deliver his next masterpiece, Adam sets about procuring as much glorious hemoglobin as he can muster - first from himself, and then from anyone unfortunate enough to pass by his sickening studio of slaughter. The final filmic collaboration between H.G. Lewis and producer/master exploiteer David F. Friedman (who collectively delivered the equally demented BLOOD FEAST and TWO THOUSAND MANIACS!) COLOR ME BLOOD RED is a crazed creation that truly puts the pain in painting!

Disc Specs:

Video - 1080p Widescreen (1.85:1)
Audio - LPCM Mono

Now Available on Blu-ray: Hitch a Ride on Arrow Video's HORROR EXPRESS!

EUGENIO MARTIN'S FILM ADAPTATION OF "WHO GOES THERE?" GETS A NEW 2K TRANSFER AND EXTRAS!

I first saw HORROR EXPRESS in its native format (35mm!) at Hudson Horror Show 8, and my mind was blown! I immediately ordered the Severin Blu-ray after seeing the film and have been actively sharing Eugenio Martin's Horror classic with everyone I can! And now Arrow Video has given the film a noticeable upgrade, which means I may have to double-dip! If you're on the fence about "upgrading" to this new release, continue to reading to see if Arrow's HORROR EXPRESS Blu-ray is right for you!

Synopsis: Horror royalty and Hammer alumni Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee reunite for this tale of mad monks, primitive humanoids and bloodthirsty zombies set aboard a train bound for Moscow – all aboard the HORROR EXPRESS!

Renowned anthropologist Saxton (Lee) boards the Trans-Siberian Express with a crate containing the frozen remains of a primitive humanoid which, he believes, may prove to be the missing link in human evolution. But all hell breaks loose when the creature thaws out, turning out to be not quite as dead as once thought!

Directed by Spanish filmmaker Eugenio Martín, HORROR EXPRESS remains one for the most thrilling (and, quite literally!) chilling horror efforts of the early 1970s.

Prepare to be Seduced into Adding the POISON IVY Films to Your Blu-ray Collection!

SCREAM FACTORY BRINGS ALL FOUR UNRATED "POISON IVY" FILMS TOGETHER IN ONE COMPLETE SET!

I've honestly never seen any of the POISON IVY films, even in my early teenage years when I was watching a healthy amount of softcore flicks on Cinemax that dealt with similar themes. But now I've been reminded of their existence thanks to Scream Factory's latest release, which offers up all four films and features both the R-Rated and Unrated versions of each one! (Except for POISON IVY: THE SECRET SOCIETY which only contains the unrated cut!)

If you're excited to watch Drew Berrymore, Alyssa Milano, and Jamie Pressly using their feminine wiles to manipulate people and destroy families, then this boxed set may be right for you!

Synopses: Tempestuous young Ivy (Drew Barrymore) befriends introverted teen Sylvie (Sara Gilbert) and seduces her way into the lives of Sylvie's wealthy family in POISON IVY. In the piquant follow-up, POISON IVY 2: LILY, a sheltered art student (Alyssa Milano) finds Ivy's diaries and, after reading them, is lured into uninhibited risk-taking to become a wild woman!

Then Ivy's sister (Jaime Pressly) visits the Greer residence in POISON IVY: THE NEW SEDUCTION, and it doesn't take long for her to use her skills of manipulation to throw the household into a slate of panic and deceit. A college freshman (Miriam McDonald) is invited to join an exclusive campus sisterhood, where cold blooded ambition causes the group to seduce, blackmail or do away with anyone that gets in their way in POISON IVY: THE SECRET SOCIETY!

TOM HOLLAND'S CLASSIC HORROR-COMEDY "FRIGHT NIGHT" FINALLY RETURNS TO

I missed out on the extremely limited Twilight Time Blu-ray release of FRIGHT NIGHT (which is now going for ridiculous prices), and never got around to picking up a region free import, so this is GREAT news! It's also no surprise when nobody believes him. However, after strange events begin to occur, Charlie has no choice but to turn to the only person who could possibly help: washed-up television vampire killer Peter Vincent (Roddy McDowall - CLASS OF 1984, THE PLANET OF THE APES Series).

Scream Factory Wants to Be Your VALENTINE on February 12th!

JAMIE BLANKS' FORGOTTEN SLASHER MOVIE FROM THE EARLY 2000S ARRIVES JUST IN TIME FOR VALENTINE'S DAY!

I remember seeing VALENTINE on the big screen back in 2001, but aside from the little twist at the end I don't remember much else about it. In fact this seems like a movie that isn't discussed very often among horror fans, which is why I was extremely shocked to see VALENTINE get so much love from Scream Factory! Guess it's time to revisit this (possible) gem, which arrived a little late to the game after the slasher boom of the 90s!

Synopsis: Revenge is sweet, just like Valentine's Day chocolates. At least, that is what a vengeful, Cupid-masked killer thinks. Be my Valentine ... or else! Broken hearts and other mortal wounds await a cast of contemporary young stars when they play dating-scene veterans dying for love in this humor-laced, twist-filled thriller cleverly directed by Jamie Blanks (URBAN LEGEND) and starring David Boreanaz (Angel, Bones), Denise Richards (STARSHIP TROOPERS), Marley Shelton (SCREAM 4, PLANET TERROR), Katherine Heigl (Grey's Anatomy) and more. Cards, candy and flowers are nice. But for fans of stalker-shocker terror, there's nothing like a VALENTINE.

Umbrella Entertinament's February & March 2019 New Releases!

UMBRELLA'S FEBRUARY SLATE IS PRETTY SPARSE, BUT MARCH IS CHOCK FULL OF WEREWOLVES!

Umbrella's February titles are now available (as of 02/06), but sadly there really weren't any new Cult, Horror, or Ozploitation films released. However, that doesn't mean that there's nothing worth mentioning! IN LIKE FLYNN has future movie star Errol Flynn (Thomas Cocquerel) on a quest for gold in Papau, New Guinea while WALKABOUT has two orphaned kids being rescued by a young Aborigine boy.

March is much more promising with the release of the completely bonkers HOWLING III: THE MARSUPIALS (which was recently released here in the States by Scream Factory) along with the HOWLING COLLECTION on DVD (which contains HOWLING III, IV, V, and VI: THE FREAKS)!

Also coming to DVD & Blu-ray in March are two family classics: STORM BOY, the enchanting story of a kid and his pet pelican, and WATERSHIP DOWN, which is a (not so) cute tale of warring bunnies! To learn more about these Umbrella titles, and two see the full list of all their new February and March releases, please continue reading!

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
* On April 3rd, Umbrella is bringing THE NAVIGATOR: A MEDIEVAL ODYSSEY to Blu-ray with an audio commentary, an interview featurette with director Vincent Ward, trailer, and still gallery! This film will also be available on a bare bones DVD release.

* Also due out on April 3rd is DEATH WARMED OVER! This forgotten cult revenge flick comes to Blu-ray with a smattering of cool extras, including: Director's commentary, cast & crew interviews, the original New Zealand VHS cut, trailers, and more! This title will also be available on (bare bones) DVD.

* MAD DOG MORGAN joins Umbrella's Ozploitation Classics line on April 3rd, and gets the royal treatment on Blu-ray! Two audio commentaries, a making-of featurette, interviews, trailers, and more!

IN LIKE FLYNN (2018)

Synopsis: In 1930, before Errol Flynn (Thomas Cocquerel) became one of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood, a young Errol, braving cannibals and crocodiles, searched the jungles of Papua New Guinea for his Eldorado. While serving as a guide for a Hollywood producer, Errol discovers a map on a dead prospector that he believes will lead to a fortune in gold.

Back on the streets of Depression-era Sydney, Flynn rounds up a ragtag crew to help him find the gold, including Rx, a Canadian ex-bootlegger, Dook, an English gentleman handy with a pistol and Charlie, a grizzled old salt. After stealing the Sirocco, a yacht belonging to Chinese Opium smugglers, Flynn and crew set sail.

They quickly learn just how perilous a voyage up the Australian east coast can be, running afoul of drunken cowboys, corrupt cops and local thugs before being intercepted by the Chinese smugglers, who are hell-bent on retrieving their Sirocco and the several pounds of opium stashed in the hold.

As Flynn and crew make a final dash for New Guinea they encounter their greatest foe yet, nature itself and sail straight into a treacherous reef. IN LIKE FLYNN is a mythical and satirical coming-of-age story about four men on a journey to find hope, adventure and fortune in an age when the world was spiralling into despair.

When he fails, he turns the gun on himself, and the two city-bred children must contend with harsh wilderness alone. WATERSHIP DOWN (1978)
