STOCK YOUR VAULT: New DVDs & Blu-rays for 10/13/2020!

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

Hey gang! Welcome to another late edition of The B-Movie News Vault's STOCK YOUR VAULT column! Work and parenthood have been seriously messing with any and all attempts to get new content up, but I'm working my way through it. And while I did miss out on posting last week's new DVD & Blu-ray releases, I just couldn't skip another week because there's a lot of awesome stuff out this past Tuesday!

Arrow Video dropped new Blu-rays of Kevin Smith's MALLRATS and the Japanese sci-fi oddity WARNING FROM SPACE, Kino Lorber Studio Classics' delivered a stellar Special Edition Blu of DEEPSTAR SIX and a new steelbook of RAWHEAD REX, and Mill Creek Entertainment brought the Jack Nicholson psychological thriller THE PLEDGE, and yet another Ultraman series to Blu-ray, namely ULTRAMAN R/B!

Kino Classics teamed with Something Weird Video for a double feature of TEST TUBE BABIES and GUILTY PARENTS, both REQUIEM FOR A DREAM and DISTRICT 9 made their 4K Ultra HD debuts, and DC/Warner Bros. finally released BATMAN: DEATH IN THE FAMILY! But it is clearly Scream Factory who won big this week Vault Dwellers!

Along with the release of TERROR IN THE AISLES and a new steelbook of MOTEL HELL (featuring a new 4K scan and cool artwork!), Scream's big claim to fame was the release of all twelve FRIDAY THE 13TH films in one huge set! While there have been problems reported, this is still a very impressive release from Scream Factory! The first four films have been remastered in 4K, there are theatrical and extended cuts of the original film, JASON GOES TO HELL, and the 2009 remake, dozens of new (and archival) audio commentaries, cast & crew interviews, behind-the-scenes featurettes, documentaries, plus a legit 3D version of Part 3!

There were tons of other titles released to DVD & Blu-ray this past week as well - for the full roster just keep scrolling!

SCREAM FACTORY LEAPS OVER VARIOUS HURDLES TO BRING "FRIDAY THE 13TH" FANS THE COMPLETE SERIES IN ONE GORGEOUS BOXED SET!

Before I even dig into the details of this set, yes I am fully aware of the issues that some collectors have discovered about this set. If you have already purchased this collection, CLICK HERE to take advantage of Scream Factory's Blu-ray Replacement Program! You just need to pop in your name, address, phone number, and send in a picture of your proof of purchase (i.e. a receipt). Doing so will get replacement Blu-rays for FRIDAY THE 13TH 3D, JASON GOES TO HELL: THE FINAL FRIDAY, and JASON X!

Also, I've heard reports of people receiving sets that are missing one of the films (usually meaning they ended up with two copies of one of the other FRIDAY THE 13TH sequels) and finding smudges, scratches, and even fingerprints on the bottom of their discs. So if you ordered a copy of this boxed set, immediately look things over to make sure all is well. If not, contact Shout! Factory customer service ASAP, and get your request for replacement discs done now so that you can get the fixed copies in November! Now, moving on....

About this Set: This Deluxe Collector's Edition collection enshrines the most successful horror series in cinema history! Watch as Jason Voorhees goes from being a last minute jump-scare in a slasher classic, to taking center-stage as the iconic hockey-masked villain that slashes his way from Crystal Lake, to Manhattan, and all the way out into outer space, before eventually returning to his home turf to battle Freddy Krueger! This boxed set is loaded with killer features - all twelve films are included on sixteen discs, and housed in a beautiful rigid slipcase!

Back in January, I threw out a prediction that this set would become a reality by November 13, 2020, and it turns out that I was just a month off! But even I couldn't BEGIN to surmise that the end result would be a sixteen-disc beast with so much restoration work, and so many hours upon hours of special features!

And sure, while we all would have liked to have seen an extended cut of PART VII: THE NEW BLOOD (that footage is likely lost for all eternity sadly), and even though there have been some issues with the final product (as stated way up top), this is a FANTASTIC release and likely the closest we'll ever get to a definitive collection! So what's the price of this monster? Depending on where you go it goes for between $130 - $160, which isn't bad considering that you get a dozen feature-length films, multiple documentaries, and two bonus discs loaded with content.

If you're ready to pull the trigger on this set, snap up a copy now (because it's probably going to be out for a limited time, much like Scream Factory's out of print HALLOWEEN COLLECTION) from AMAZON, BULL MOOSE, DIABOLIK DVD, or directly from SHOUT! FACTORY. And while you wait for your set to arrive in the mail, head on over to THE B-MOVIE FILM VAULT'S FRIDAY THE 13TH ARCHIVES to read reviews, articles, and lists that all center around my absolute favorite Horror franchise!

Scream Factor's Deluxe Edition of THE FRIDAY THE 13TH COLLECTION comes with everything seen here!

Check Out These Awesome New Horror Toys from Mezco + Footage from 2018's Toy Fair!

We've recently started getting e-mails from Mezco Toyz here at The News Vault, and man is it making us want to spend our expendable income! For our first ever bit of toy news, we've selected several upcoming releases from Mezco's 2018 roster, including a new addition to their Living Dead Dolls line, as well as the trio of cute horror dolls that will kick off their "Flatzos" series! But enough talk, let's take a look at these new toys that you just gotta have!

Jason’s trademark hockey mask is removable to reveal a disfigured and scarred face sculpt based on FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3D. Also included is an alternate left hand to help recreate iconic poses. Standing approximately 6 inches tall, this figure comes packaged in a die-cut window box perfect for display in your collection!

LIVING DEAD DOLLS - THE NUN
Expected to Ship Between June - August 2018.
Pre-order: Mezco Toyz or Amazon.com

Description: The cinematic universe of THE CONJURING has earned over $1 billion dollars at the box office, and introduced theatergoers to the horrific rogues gallery of supernatural villains who tormented paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. The Nun was introduced in THE CONJURING 2 and quickly became a terrifying fan favorite, earning herself a post credit sequence in ANNABELLE: CREATION. This summer, The Nun stars in her own self-titled film exploring the unholy origin and dark secrets in her past.

Now, The Nun joins the world of The Living Dead Dolls with a doll so frightening even Valak would want to keep the lights on. Standing a full ten inches tall, the doll is dressed in her trademark nun’s habit with necklace and has five points of articulation.

She comes packaged in a die-cut window box perfect for display. As you look into the box at her, she stares back…into your soul!

Pretty cool stuff right? Also this past weekend, Mezco Toyz had a booth at New York's 2018 Toy Fair! To get a glimpse of the awesome new products they are releasing this year (e.g. Mez-Its, Puzzle Blox, Burst A Box, and various figures & dolls), scope out the Toy Fair walkthrough video below:

New Fan-Made FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3D Documentary Shines a Spotlight on the Late Richard Brooker.

FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3 - THE MEMORIAM DOCUMENTARY FOCUSES ON RICHARD BROOKER, THE FIRST "JASON" TO DON THE TRADEMARK HOCKEY MASK!

Along with NEVER HIKE ALONE, and the upcoming VOORHEES, fans are clearly keeping the torch burning while the FRIDAY THE 13TH franchise remains on hiatus. (Which could end soon if Jason Blum has his way.) And while we wait for the day that Jason Voorhees returns to the silver screen, you can kill an additional half-an-hour with Kevin R. Phipps' all-new FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3 - THE MEMORIAM DOCUMENTARY!

Synopsis: Take a look behind the scenes of FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3D with host, Paul Kratka, in this insightful fan-driven documentary. Featuring untold stories and interviews with several franchise favorites, and never-before-seen location footage and set photography, this documentary is a touching look back on the life of actor Richard Brooker.

This short doc (only 38 minutes!) is hosted by FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3D co-star Paul Kratka (Rick, aka "The Brawny Paper Towel Guy"). It features some fun anecdotes, and interesting tidbits about Brooker, who sadly passed away from a heart attack back in 2013.

Phipps' doc has interviews with numerous FRIDAY THE 13TH alumni, and reveals some of the hardships faced on the set of the 3D sequel. It is also chock full of fond remembrances of the Emmy Award-Winning(!) Richard Brooker, and reveals the sad fate of the cabin most of us Friday fans know best as "Higgins Haven."

FRIDAY THE 13TH - THE MEMORIAM DOCUMENTARY is absolutely free to watch on YouTube! Make sure you scope it out, and maybe you'll learn yourself a thing or two about one of the best Jason Voorhees performers of all time!

VOORHEES Promises to be the "Darkest" and "Most Sadistic FRIDAY THE 13TH" Fan Film Yet!

About two weeks ago, I posted about a top-notch FRIDAY THE 13TH fan film called NEVER HIKE ALONE. In that post, I commented that fans are keeping our Horror icons alive while major studios either have mothballed them, or continue to make lackluster prequels and reboots featuring the cinematic boogeymen we love. Which brings me to a new fan film that's in the works...

What initially started as an idea for a FRIDAY THE 13TH short film has grown into a feature-length independent production that I'm very much looking forward to. While Sean S. Cunningham and Victor Miller continue to battle over the rights for my favorite slasher franchise, executive producer Chris Plaushin & Director Cody Faulk are bringing the Crystal Camp slayer back from limbo in VOORHEES!

Synopsis: VOORHEES takes place at and around the old grounds of Camp Crystal Lake. The individuals who we follow are not Summer campers. Far from it. They have found their way to this place in the woods for a much darker purpose, seeking temporary sanctuary from the world.  They foolishly decide to examine the abandoned camp, completely unaware that they are about to get an education in true terror, and learn the name of the most infamous killer in cinema history!

So Jason's victims aren't campers, and are hiding out at Crystal Lake for a "darker purpose?" What could it be? Well, don't ask me because I have no clue, and director Cody Faulk is remaining mum on the subject as well. What I do know is that VOORHEES is still in production, and the cast & crew need our help to finish the film!

While much of the principle photography is completed, a good chunk of the movie still remains unfilmed. Funds are also needed to bolster the film's bloody practical f/x, and cover post-production costs (editing, sound effects, music, etc.), as well as backer rewards for everyone that donates to VOORHEES' Kickstarter campaign.

And now it's time for yours truly to ask all of you Vault Dwellers to support this indie film project. Please consider making a monetary pledge toward the completion of VOORHEES. But if you don't have any expendable income at the moment, then please share the Kickstarter page around on social media so that other interested parties may chip in a few bucks.

As of my posting this, Cody and his team still have a month left to raise approximately six-thousand dollars, and there's some very cool rewards that come with being a backer, including: T-shirts, DVDs, posters, hockey-mask replicas, a machete prop from the set, producer credits, and more!

For updates on the production, and to see the latest behind the scenes stills & videos, be sure to join the VOORHEES Facebook Group. And to fill you in on anything I missed, here's Cody Faulk himself to tell you more about his upcoming film:

UPDATE (02/01/2018): Cody and his team have surpassed their crowdfunding goal! Now comes the wait! Stay tuned for further updates!

Freddy and Jason live on in NEVER HIKE ALONE & NIGHTMARE: RETURN TO ELM STREET!

Good advice AND a great film!

FANS TAKE MATTERS INTO THEIR OWN HANDS, AS STUDIOS FAIL TO BREATHE NEW LIFE INTO TWO OF CINEMA'S MOST ICONIC HORROR FRANCHISES!

As of my posting this, we are on the cusp of yet another TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE film (even though the latest, LEATHERFACE, underperformed at the box office), which will eventually bring that series to a whopping NINE films. And while Hollywood struggles to make TCM profitable again, they have continued to ignore two other slasher greats: FRIDAY THE 13TH and A NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST.

We haven't seen a non-video game incarnation of Freddy Krueger or Jason Voorhees since their Platinum Dunes remakes, and we may not for some time. Robert Englund has declared himself "too old" to reprise his role as the Springwood Slasher, and New Line doesn't seem too interested at bringing Freddy back from the dead anytime soon. (Though there are constant rumors of a new reboot popping up on the web all the time.)

As for Jason, there's still a lawsuit going on between Sean S. Cunningham and FRIDAY THE 13TH screenwriter Victor Miller over the fate of the franchise, so who knows when the hockey-masked killer will return to cinemas. With both series in limbo, indie filmmakers Vincente DiSanti and Domonic Smith both decided to create their own unique visions of the cinematic boogeymen we all love and know.

NEVER HIKE ALONE (2017)

DiSanti's NEVER HIKE ALONE has been mentioned here at The News Vault several times, but until now, I've been remiss to actually share the finished film (which runs at just under an hour). The movie follows a hiker/vlogger named Kyle that stumbles upon an abandoned campground. He soon realizes that he has discovered the remains of Camp Crystal Lake, and that he isn't alone.

As the film races to its conclusion, Kyle must survive a night in Camp Blood, leading to game of cat and mouse between himself and the legendary Jason Voorhees! This fan film is very well done and I highly recommend it! Give NEVER HIKE ALONE a watch right now, and keep an eye out for a really cool cameo!

NIGHTMARE: RETURN TO ELM STREET (20??)

At the moment, Domonic Smith's dream project has not come to fruition. In a bid to get New Line (and parent company Warner Bros.) interested in continuing A NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST. (and hiring him to direct), Smith and his team have created a trio of well-done fan trailers. Each trailer improves upon the last, and reveals more of the plot, which involves an Elm St. survivor named Drew who must confront Freddy Krueger in order to protect his children from the blade-fingered dream demon. Give the trailers a look below and judge for yourself!

I have to say, these trailers are pretty cool (the third and final one is definitely the most polished of the bunch) and I'm totally down for NIGHTMARE: RETURN TO ELM STREET. Here's hoping that Domonic's work gains some notice from the powers that be at the WB!

New DVDs & Blu-rays for 09/08/2015!

Holy cow! September started off a bit weak, but now the gloves are off, and it's time to start adding more physical media to your personal collections! This week, Scream Factory hits us with Astron-6's giallo parody THE EDITOR, and a collector's edition of (the late) Wes Craven's SHOCKER (a guilty pleasure of mine)! Paramount finally did FRIDAY THE 13TH fans a solid, and now you can own the majority of the franchise on Blu-ray without having to throw down a hundred bucks on the boxed set!

Arrow Video has released a nice Special Edition set of SOCIETY to replace their now out of print Deluxe Limited Edition. And our pals at Troma have just released CITIZEN TOXIE to Blu-ray, and have also added a cinematic oddity called MADCOW to their DVD catalog.
