Salt City Horror Fest Rises Again on April 13th, 2019!

SALT CITY HORROR FEST RETURNS TO ITS OLD STOMPING GROUNDS IN APRIL WITH A KILLER 35MM LINEUP THAT YOU WON'T WANT TO MISS!

I sadly missed out on Salt City Horror Fest last year, which boasted a crazy-awesome 35mm roster that featured the original KING KONG, C.H.U.D., C.H.U.D. II, CREEPSHOW 2, PET SEMATARY, PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE, TERRORVISION, and THE MANSON MASSACRE! My only thought after missing that show was "Damn, it'll be hard to top that." Luckily The Palace Theater's programmers were up to the task this year!

On Saturday, April 13th this annual event returns to The Palace Theater in Syracuse for a full day of 35mm screenings! The doors open at 10:00 AM to allow attendees to stake out their seats and scope out all the various vendor tables in the lobby. At 10:30 various shorts and 35mm cartoons will fire up on the big screen, and the movies kick-off at 11:00 AM!

But things are a little bit different this time around Vault Dwellers as there will be NO special guests or Q&A sessions, and no breaks between films! (Essentially, you have until the end credits to rush to the bathroom and/or grab a snack!) That's right: This going to be an endurance run! And you may not want to leave your seat much at all because the lineup is populated with some fantastic films and rare gems!

FILM LINEUP:
While I'm not certain about the exact start and stop times for each film, I can at least tell you what's playing, and in what order! Brace yourselves film fans:
  • JAWS (1975) - Spielberg's immortal classic about a heroic trio battling a man-eating Great White to save their island community! (Read my review HERE.)
  • EQUINOX (1970) - A sole survivor recounts how he and his friends were attacked by a demon in this rarely screened 1970 classic!
  • RAZORBACK (1984) - "JAWS on trotters!" An American journeys to the Australian Outback to find out what happened to his wife and ends up battling a giant boar! This is a very rare screening of this film, which is probably one of the artsiest entries into the eco-horror sub-genre!
  • PSYCHO (1960) - Alfred Hitchcock's classic proto-slasher features Anthony Perkins' in the iconic role of Norman Bates!
  • NEVER HIKE ALONE (2017) - Vincent DiSanti's awesome FRIDAY THE 13TH fan film! A hiker accidentally wanders onto the remnants of Camp Crystal Lake and quickly discovers that he's not alone! (Digital presentation.)
  • I DRINK YOUR BLOOD (1970) - After wreaking havoc on a small town, a gang of hippies are infected with rabies, and go on a cannibalism spree. Holy cow, this movie sounds completely bonkers!
  • THE THING (1982) - John Carpenter's amazing adaptation of Joseph Campbell's novella Who Goes There? An all-star cast is trapped in the Antarctic with a shape-shifting menace from another world in this horror classic! (Read my review HERE.)
  • SCANNERS (1981) - David Cronenberg's classic involving a man that is tasked with using his psychic powers to hunt down others like him! This one has one of the greatest exploding head scenes in cinematic history!
  • SEVERANCE (2006) - A group of employees go to a secluded cabin in Hungary for a team-building weekend, and end up fighting for their lives in this fun horror-comedy from Christopher Smith, who also directed CREEP and BLACK DEATH.
Advance tickets for this year's SALT CITY HORROR FEST are currently on sale - CLICK HERE to secure yours now! Regular tickets are $30 while VIP tickets are $60 and will net you a catered dinner plus an official Salt City Horror Fest t-shirt! (Note: There is also a "ticket fee" if you pre-order online.) Otherwise, arrive early on April 13th, get a ticket at the door, and prepare yourself for a full day of 35mm madness!

For further info and updates, be sure to follow SALT CITY HORROR FEST on Facebook! And hopefully I'll see some of you there in April!

Salt City Horror Fest Returns to The Palace Theater in Syracuse, NY on April 28th!

Click on poster to enlarge.
HEAD TO THE HISTORIC PALACE THEATER IN SYRACUSE FOR AN ENTIRE DAY OF 35MM FRIGHT FLICKS + SPECIAL GUESTS!

Due to various contributing factors, I sadly did not get to attend last year's Salt City Horror Fest, which featured the likes of CRITTERS, AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, FROM BEYOND, THE MUTILATOR (fully uncut!), and various other Horror classics in 35mm! And though my attendance this year may be up in the air, I really hope I can get the time off from work to enjoy eight awesome films in their native format!

This year's event takes place on Saturday, April 28th! The doors open at 11:00 AM, and general admission is $35.00 (or $50 if you want a limited edition event poster), while VIP ticket holders must pay $65. While that may seem a tad expensive, it does give you the ability to enter the venue a half-hour before everyone else to save your seat, hit up the vendors, and meet & greet the special guests! You will also get a catered dinner, a limited edition souvenir event poster, and entered into a VIP raffle! Regardless of what ticket you buy, as long as your wristband is on, you can come and go all day! To secure your tickets for this awesome film fest right now, CLICK HERE!

FILM LINEUP
While I'm not entirely certain what order the films will be played in (typically the more "family friendly" titles play first), here is the confirmed list of (mostly rare) 35mm prints being shown at this year's Salt City Horror Fest:
  • C.H.U.D. - Rare extended cut with intro and Q&A with Carey Eidel!
  • C.H.U.D. II: BUD THE CHUD - First screening since its original release! Intro and Q&A with director David K. Irving, and star Gerrit Graham!
  • CREEPSHOW 2 - Rare print with intro and Q&A with Rick Catizone!
  • KING KONG (1932) - Shown in its original 1.37:1 aspect ratio!
  • THE MANSON MURDERS - Ultra rare screening of this thought to be "lost film!"
  • PET SEMATARY - With introduction by Denise Crosby!
  • PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE - Intro and Q&A with Gerrit Graham!
  • TERRORVISION - Rare print with intro and Q&A with Gerrit Graham!

SPECIAL GUESTS
Over the past couple of years, Salt City Horror Fest has been bringing in actors and filmmakers to meet fans and/or do Q&A sessions, turning it into a sort of mini-convention. This time around they have a pretty solid list of celebrity guests including:
  • Mary Lambert - Director of PET SEMATARY, PET SEMATARY II, and numerous music videos!
  • Denise Crosby - Actress in PET SEMATARY, The Walking Dead, Star Trek, et al.
  • Rick Catizone - Animation Designer on CREEPSHOW 2.
  •  Gerrit Graham - Actor in PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE, TERRORVISION, C.H.U.D. II: BUD THE CHUD, CHILD'S PLAY 2, Star Trek, et al.
  • David Irving - Director of C.H.U.D. II: BUD THE CHUD and NIGHT OF THE CYCLONE.
  • Carey Eidel - Actor in C.H.U.D., LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK, and Daddy Dearest.
  • Jay Kay - Host of Horror Happens Radio. Come see the world premiere trailer to his film IT'S UNDER YOUR SKIN: DON'T EAT AT DAVE'S.

Salt City Horror Fest takes place in three weeks, so save the date, get a ticket, and maybe I'll see some of you Vault Dwellers there! For continued updates on this event, visit its official Facebook page! Tickets and pricing can be found HERE!

Exhumed Films' 3-DEMENTIA Film Fest invades Philadelphia on July 16th!

3-Dementia event poster. Artwork by Justin Miller.

ON JULY 16TH, EXHUMED FILMS TAKES YOU TO THE THIRD-DIMENSION WITH AN AMAZING LINEUP OF 35MM PRINTS!

The folks at Exhumed Films continue to do us cinephiles a huge service with their latest event: 3-DEMENTIA! On Sunday, July 16th get to The International House in Philadelphia, PA, and strap yourselves in for five movies in 100% legit 3-D! (To clarify, the films will not be screened in red/blue anaglyph 3D! This is the real deal Vault Dwellers!)

The doors open at 11:00 AM (get there earlier to secure a good seat), and the projector will fire up at noon, starting with....

FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3D (1982)
Jason picks himself up by the bootstraps after his defeat in the previous installment, and heads to Higgins Haven to hack up horny "teens" and stoners. Filled with eye-popping effects (literally!), FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3D is a solid sequel that is probably most notable for having Jason don his trademark hockey mask for the first time.

Once Jason's reign of terror ends, I'll be entering unknown territory, because I've never seen any of the other films on the roster. (Not surprising since most of these are super rare!)

TREASURE OF THE FOUR CROWNS (1983)
J.T. Striker is a soldier of fortune that has been hired to recover a set of magical gemstones from four ancient crowns. Aided by a group of thieves, Striker battles a deadly cult to retrieve his prize, leading to a climax you apparently have to see to believe! Heavily inspired by RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, TREASURE OF THE FOUR CROWNS looks to be a fun adventure movie that I won't soon forget. (And holy hell, the soundtrack was composed by ENNIO MORRICONE!)

ROTTWEILER (1983)
Directed by Worth Keeter (who will be in attendance!), this film takes place in the small town of Lake Lure. When a pack of experimental Rottweilers escapes from a nearby military installation, it's up to the local sheriff  to protect the townsfolk from the murderous canines! I'm always down for some killer animal cinema, so this movie sounds like it is right up my alley!

HIT THE ROAD RUNNING (1983)
Feature #4 is another Worth Keeter vehicle! When Beau Jim Donner returns to his hometown, he ends up butting heads with a corrupt tycoon that has been buying up land and intimidating the locals. This of course leads to an abundance of car chases and crashes that should look pretty damned awesome in 3D! Heavily influenced by SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT (and to a lesser extent, THE DUKES OF HAZZARD), HIT THE ROAD RUNNING promises to be a smashing good time!

REVENGE OF THE SHOGUN WOMEN (1977)
After wowing the audience at the last Ex-Fest with DYNASTY, the Exhumed gang is delivering another classic martial arts film in startling 3D! After being assaulted and degraded by a gang of bandits, a group of women master the martial arts to seek revenge on their attackers!

Tickets are still on sale for 3-DEMENTIA, but are going fast. So if this sounds like something you'd love to attend, GET YOUR TICKETS NOW, and maybe I'll see you there!

Also, if you do make it to this event, you will have the ability to purchase early-bird tickets for Exhumed Film's 24-Hour Horrorthon, which takes place in late October! Keep that in mind because the Horrothon always sells out!

ONE, TWO, FREDDY-FEST IS COMING FOR YOU.... IN MID-OCTOBER!

THIS OCTOBER, WATCH THE NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST. FRANCHISE IN 35MM AND MEET CAST MEMBERS FROM "FREDDY'S REVENGE" AT THE PALACE THEATER!

Doors open at 11:00 AM, and you'll have the chance to buy cool Freddy-themed merchandise from vendors before the movies fire-up on the big screen! Speaking of which....

Nearly every NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST. film is being shown in glorious 35mm! The fest kicks off with a screening of Wes Craven's classic A NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST., and ends with the slasher movie throwdown, FREDDY VS. JASON! (Sadly Wes Craven's NEW NIGHTMARE is absent from the lineup.)

And as if this event couldn't be cooler, there will be a NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST. 2: FREDDY'S REVENGE reunion Q&A panel, featuring stars Mark Patton, Kim Myers, Clu Gulager & director Jack Sholder! Fans will also get a chance to meet the stars and get their autographs, plus other special guests are promised to be announced in the coming months.

Ticket pre-orders are live now at TicketFly, and range from $25 to $65, depending on your preferences. $25 gets you in all day for the event, $50 buys your all day ticket and a limited 18x24 event poster, and $65 nets you the Elite Elm Street VIP Package! As a VIP, you get in thirty minutes before everyone else to pick your seat and get first dibs on the vendors area, a pair of vintage FREDDY'S DEAD 3-D glasses, the previously mentioned poster, a catered meal, and a chance to win a replica of Freddy Krueger's glove!

Tickets are selling fast, so be sure to get yours now, save the date, and maybe I'll see you there! (And be sure to take the following day off Elm St. fans, because this show is going to run late!)

WELCOME TO HUDSON HORROR SHOW XV B*TCH! Poughkeepsie's bi-annual Horror and Exploitation film fest returns in May 2017!

ON SATURDAY, MAY 20TH, HUDSON HORROR SHOW RETURNS TO ITS OLD STOMPING GROUNDS FOR TWELVE HOURS OF 35MM MADNESS!

Just when you think that Chris Alo and friends cannot top the lineups of previous Hudson Horror events, they up the ante yet again! Gaze in wide wonder at the killer lineup of films being screened in 35mm at Hudson Horror Show XV, save the date, and snap up tickets as soon as they go on sale, because this event WILL SELL OUT! For more details on the films and tickets, read the official press release below and get excited!

"Welcome to prime-time bitches, it's Hudson Horror Show #15! It’s been a long time coming, but our next show is locked and loaded and will take place on Saturday May 20th, 2017 at our home, the South Hills Cinema 8 in Poughkeepsie, NY. Tickets are just $38.00 in advance (only available at www.hudsonhorror.com), and will go on sale at approximately 10AM on this Sunday, February 26th. So what are we showing?? You wanna know, don’t you?

We’ll start off with not one but TWO MYSTERY MOVIES!! One is actually a MYSTERY MOVIE and the other is a MYSTERY HORROR MOVIE. (See what we did there?) No real clues yet, but let’s just say that even though one of them isn’t a horror movie, that doesn’t mean it’s not incredibly bloody and violent!

Our buds at the world’s best home video label Vinegar Syndrome are proud to present a rare 35mm screening of SLAUGHTERHOUSE! This late 80’s slasher is grimy and gruesome, but still so much fun. Just missing the slasher craze by a few years, if you’ve never seen this flick before, now is your chance to see it on the big screen.

The maniacal Jordan G from The B-Movie Film Vault is out of the asylum once again, and this time is sponsoring a 30th anniversary screening of THE HIDDEN! This sci-fi horror cult classic is a true roller coaster ride and only Jordan is crazy enough to bring it to you!

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, you still get nibbled to death by the frenzy that is PIRANHA! Joe Dante’s 1978 classic is one of the most requested titles by you, the Hudson Horror audience. With a cast that includes Kevin McCarthy, Barbara Steele and that guy Dick Miller, PIRANHA is a movie that you will just eat up!

Lastly, but not least, we are equally looking forward to a 30th anniversary screening of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3: DREAM WARRIORS! One of the most popular entries in the famed franchise, we’ll be laughing along to Freddy’s dated puns almost as much as we are rockin’ to Dokken!

As usual, lobbies at the theater will be packed to the gills with vendors selling t-shirts, DVDs, Blu-rays, toys, posters and so much more. Interested in being a vendor? Got a question? Send an email chris@hudsonhorror.com. Tickets are not needed to shop the vendor’s area, but you WILL need a ticket to watch the movies. And yeah, you will need to decide before purchasing your tickets which screening room you want to sit in (Theater #1 or Theater #6). Both rooms get the same movies, just in a slightly different order.

Again, tickets go on sale at 10AM this Sunday February 26th at www.hudsonhorror.com. Get them before they are gone! And we’ll see you on May 20th in Poughkeepsie for Hudson Horror Show #15!"

Gone Horror Festin'!

Hey Vault Dwellers! Yours truly is heading out for the weekend so there won't be any new content here or over at Vault HQ! I'll be partaking of Exhumed Films' 10th Annual 24-Hour Horrothon, which is my first visit to this highly-touted event!

Fourteen films are going to be screened at the International House in Philadelphia, all in 35mm. The catch? The audience has NO IDEA what is being shown. The only thing we're sure of, is that each film is a Horror flick hailing from the Decade of Decadence!

Prior to the movies, a sheet will be handed out with 14 vague descriptions of the day's features (a contest and yearly tradition) and after introductions, us lucky few (hundred) will try to survive a full 24 hours of 35mm films, trailers, and other fun stuff!

For any of you wondering, yes I will be posting updates about the show on social media, on Twitter, Facebook, and/or Instagram, at least while I'm awake, because this is an endurance run, and only the strong will survive!

Now if you'll excuse me, the open road is calling Vault Dwellers! Destiny beckons! It is time to test my mettle, and see if years of 12-hour film fests, and staying up super late on a daily basis is enough training to sit through 24 hours of awesome!

I hope you all have a Happy and safe Halloweekend my friends! Eat candy, go trick r' treating, watch Horror films and TV shows, hit up a party, and just revel in the coolest holiday of the year! While I'm away, head over to the main site and read dozens of Horror-themed articles from the archives, or listen in to one of our Vault-Cast Halloween episodes!

Also, if you are looking for anything to do this weekend:

Newt Wallen is running some awesome stuff at The Anthony Wayne Theater (in Wayne, PA), over the next few nights, including TALES FROM THE CRYPT, CREEPSHOW, and THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN.

The Mahoning Drive-In (in Lehighton, PA) is playing THE SHINING and MISERY tonight, then CRITTERS and both THE GATE movies tomorrow night.

The Palace Theater in Syracuse is running THE CAR, FLASH GORDON, and ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW tomorrow night!

Have fun gang! I'll see you all upon my return on Monday! HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!

LINEUP & SCHEDULE FOR HUDSON HORROR SHOW XIV: YET ANOTHER DECEMBER TO DISMEMBER!

HUDSON HORROR
SHOW XIV INVADES POUGHKEEEPSIE, NY ON DECEMBER 3RD, WITH A KILLER LINEUP OF 35MM PRINTS!

As I sit here typing about this upcoming film fest, I find it hard to believe that I'm once again helping to usher in a fantastic show that I was merely a bystander at five years ago. Since HUDSON HORROR SHOW IV (the original December to Dismember), I've become a fixture of this bi-annual event, sponsoring the likes of INFRA-MAN, LADY TERMINATOR, FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2, and NIGHTBREED!

This time around I'm proud to help Chris Alo and his merry band of Horror fanatics kick-off yet another high quality Hudson Horror Show, with a strong lineup of genre favorites! Tickets go on sale Friday, September 16th for $38.00 on their official website, for Theaters #1 and #6! That's right Vault Dwellers, this show is so huge it takes TWO SCREENS to harness all of the awesome!

THE LINEUP

ROBOCOP (1987)
This film is one of my all-time favorites! ROBOCOP boasts costume design and effects by Rob Bottin, an amazing soundtrack composed by Basil Poledouris, an unbeatable cast made up of Ronny Cox, Peter Weller, Kurtwood Smith, Nancy Allen and other familiar faces, plus first-rate directing by Paul Verhoeven (STARSHIP TROOPERS, SHOWGIRLS)!

When officer Alex Murphy is gunned-down in the line of duty, his corpse is reconstituted inside the bulletproof body of a crime-fighting cyborg! As RoboCop cleans up the streets of "Old Detroit," Murphy begins to regain his humanity, and seeks vengeance against the gang of thugs that murdered him and ruined his life!

THE HOWLING (1981)
Sponsored by yours truly, this Joe Dante classic features a news anchor (Dee Wallace) and her hubby staying at a secluded retreat called "The Haven." Though intended to be an escape from the trauma of tracking down a serial killer, it turns out that the backwoods paradise is actually a refuge for werewolves! Though the bulk of the shapeshifters are trying to get a handle on their animalistic urges, there are some that strongly disagree, and readily let loose the beast within. This leads to some cool transformation scenes (courtesy of Rob Bottin!), a philosophical discussion of the human id, and werewolf sex!

DEATH RACE 2000 (1975)
After such a strong audience reaction to the trailer that was shown at the previous Hudson Horror Show, DEATH RACE 2000's inclusion in the roster is a no-brainer! Set in a future where the Cannonball Run has become a deadly national sport, Roger Corman's insane sci-fi classic pits colorful drivers against one-another in a sprint from the East Coast of the United States, all the way to the West. The catch? The drivers must run down, run over, maim, and kill as many innocent bystanders as possible to gain points!

Featuring Sylvester Stallone in an early role, alongside the likes of David Carradine and Mary Woronov, this violent version of Wacky Races is sure to be a real crowdpleaser!

THE HITCHER (1986)
Followed up by a lousy sequel, and a dull reboot, Robert Harmon's THE HITCHER has withstood the test of time. This thriller features a cat-and-mouse game between a young man (C. Thomas Howell) and a murderous drifter (Rutger Hauer). After escaping a crazed hitchhiker, Jim Halsey is pursued relentlessly, and framed for numerous murders, by the cold and calculated mystery man.

THE HITCHER is a great flick, and will definitely make you think twice before picking up any hitchhikers, and it'll be a real treat to see it projected in 35mm!

I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE (1978)
Egads! It was all fun and games until Meir Zarchi's quintessential "rape and revenge" classic was added to the roster! I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE is not a pleasant film, and features actress Camille Keaton as Jennifer, a writer looking for seclusion in order to focus on her craft. Her plans go completely out the window once four hillbillies break into her cabin and gang-rape her multiple times, then leave her for dead.

Once she physically recovers from the attack, she begins a quiet, campaign of vengeance against the wicked men who destroyed her innocence. After you see this movie, you'll never look at a seemingly harmless rub & tug in the bathtub the same way again!

MYSTERY MOVIE
This is a complete unknown gang! Even I don't know what's playing, and I'm usually privy to that information! I sense something HUGE is in store for us Hudson Horror fans!

THE SCHEDULE(S)
*Movie times include trailers, all times are tentative and subject to change.

Head to Phoenixville this weekend for ITALIAN ALL-NIGHT SPLATTER FEST 5!

I'm knocking a bunch of stuff off my 35mm to-do list this year. Along with my typical escapades to Poughkeepsie's Hudson Horror Show, The Alamo Drafthouse in Yonkers, and The Palace Theater in Syracuse, I've added The Anthony Wayne Theater, The Mahoning Drive-In, and now The Colonial Theatre to my list of haunts. This Saturday, starting at 6:00 PM, The Colonial (home of the original THE BLOB) will be host to an insane lineup of Italian Horror classics! Prepare yourselves for ITALIAN ALL-NIGHT SPLATTER FEST V!

THE LINEUP AND (APPROXIMATE) SCHEDULE

7:00 PM - TROLL 2 (1990)
This sequel in name only is regarded by some as "the best, worst movie" and rightfully so. Director Claudio Fragasso's tale of Goblins seeking human prey is one of the most bizarre things ever committed to film. Populated by a cast of unknowns (one of the leads is a dentist!), featuring cheap costumes and makeup f/x, and boasting one of the most nonsensical plots ever, TROLL 2 is one of the most entertaining bad films you will ever see.

When the Hardy family comes to the town of Nilbog ("It's their kingdom!") to swap houses with a family of backwoods yokels. They soon find that the locals are oddly friendly and insistent on force-feeding them green Kool-Aid, icing, and butter. It turns out that the townsfolk are actually goblins in disguise, and are trying to turn the city folk into human-plant hybrids for dinner. With the help of a young boy's dead grandpa, the Hardy clan will fight for their lives against the tribe of vegetarian monsters.

8:37 - PIECES (1982)
Juan Piquer Simon's entry into the slasher sub-genre is a work of inane brilliance. A mysterious killer is chainsawing coeds at a on a college campus, and its up to "a former tennis star turned detective" to discover the identity of the culprit. This movie puts the red herrings into overdrive, and features some fun kills, and a total "what the f*ck?" ending that will leave you laughing and scratching your head, long after the film has ended.

I know it's a year away, but may I humbly suggest Simon's SLUGS for a future Italian Splatter Fest event?

10:08 PM - 20 Minute Break.

10:30 PM - CEMETERY MAN (1994)
I haven't seen this flick in a looooong time, but I remember enjoying it quite a bit. Rupert Everett stars as Francesco Dellamorte, the night watchman at an old cemetery, who finds himself having to lay the dead back to rest shortly after they've been buried. Dellamorte's sidekick is a fat bald guy named Gnaghi who can only say "GNAH!," and he is haunted by a beautiful woman (Anna Falchi!) who seems to keep reincarnating and walking back into his life over and over again. It's a very strange movie, but a lot of fun, and kind of artsy.

12:19 AM - WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO SOLANGE? (1972)
This is one film I've never seen in any format, so I'm very curious about it. From the official Italian All-Night Splatter Fest Page: "While spending an amorous afternoon with a married teacher, Elizabeth witnesses the murder of a classmate. Now, the killer seems to be stalking the student body and the numero uno suspect is her secret lover!" A classic 70s giallo flick? Yeah, I'm totally down for that!

2:04 AM - 20 Minute Break.

2:26 AM - ZOMBIE (1979)
Lucio Fulci's ZOMBIE was one of my first forays into the world of Italian horror, and I love this movie dearly. Though I've already seen this in 35mm, I'm more than eager to have it shove a splinter of awesome into both of my eyes all over again! A group of people become stranded upon the island of Matool after a shark damages their boat (and battles an aqua-zombie!). Soon they meet up with Dr. Maynard, who is trying to find a cure for the isle's undead epidemic. But as things progress, it would seem that there is no cure, and that the pestilence is spreading at an alarming rate across the globe!

Fulci's "sequel" to Romero's DAWN OF THE DEAD is a total blast, and features some of the most inventive (and brutal) f/x sequences you will ever witness! This is a great way to cap things off on this fun event!

HUDSON HORROR SHOW 13 CONQUERS POUGHKEEPSIE, NY AGAIN THIS MAY!

ON SATURDAY, MAY 14TH, HUDSON HORROR SHOW RETURNS, BIGGER & BETTER THAN EVER!
BE SURE TO YOUR PRE-ORDER YOUR TICKETS ON SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 14TH BECAUSE
IT WILL SELL OUT!

Fresh off the presses:
First off, thanks to those who bought tickets to our March Madness Triple Feature at the Alamo Drafthouse in Yonkers, NY. We are sorry to report that our screening of HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP, HELL NIGHT and CHILD’S PLAY is now completely sold out. All we can say is to keep your eyes on the Alamo Yonkers website to see if more tickets become available.

Now onto the good news, Hudson Horror Show returns to its native soil in Poughkeepsie New York on May 14th, 2016 for Hudson Horror Show #13!

Tickets will go on sale on Valentine’s Day, Sunday February 14th 2016 at 9 AM exclusively at www.hudsonhorror.com. Tickets are just $35.00 for the six movie, 12 hour show. Each ticket purchased comes with a free limited edition Hudson Horror Show Leatherface/Black Sabbath sticker.

Like the last time, there will be two rooms showing all of the movies, you will need to decide which room you want to sit in. Both rooms will get the same exact movies, just in a different order. So, what are we showing?

We’ve been threatening to show a Blaxploitation movie for years and now we’ve finally got one of the best in DOLEMITE! Presented by our friends at Vinegar Syndrome, Dolemite stars Rudy Ray Moore as the one and only pimp, comedian, lounge club singer, kung fu artist, and all around bad ass!

You’ve seen the sequel, now it’s time for the original, Robert Englund’s star turn in 1984’s A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET! With John Saxon, Heather Langenkamp and Johnny Depp, do we even need to say more than that?

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, HHS presents JAWS 2!!! The giant fish movie that many feels plays like a slasher JAWS 2 brings Bruce back to Amityville and the results are as disastrous as last time. JAWS 2 rarely gets any play theatrically and we are pleased to have this as part of our show.

Our headliner for show# 13 is the much requested NIGHTBREED! Presented by The B-Movie Film Vault, Clive Barker’s monster mash features more on screen creatures than any other movie ever filmed. And forget that director’s cut, the theatrical version of NIGHTBREED is by far the superior version and we are ecstatic to have this as part of our lineup.

We will also have not one but TWO MYSTERY HORROR MOVIES!! Want to know what we are showing? Get your tickets and find out! Again, tickets go on sale Sunday February 14th at 9AM at www.hudsonhorror.com. What better way is there to celebrate Valentine's Day than buying your significant other a Hudson Horror Ticket?

If you have any questions, shoot us an email at chris@hudsonhorror.com and we’ll see you at the movies!

HUDSON HORROR SHOW 12 RETURNS TO POUGHKEEPSIE ON DECEMBER 12TH!

UPDATES: Screening schedule located at the bottom of this post + New event poster revealed!

Hudson Horror Show is returning to its stomping grounds at the Empire South Hills 8 on Saturday, December 12th! Their last all-day film fest sold out (in 90 minutes!),  as did their recent double feature at the Alamo Drafthouse), so it's no shocker that the Hudson Horror crew expect another sell-out show this time around! Though twice as many tickets will be available, expect them to be gone within days of availability! Wait what? Did I just say TWICE as many?

Yes I did, and that's because all six of the day's films will be screened on TWO SEPARATE SCREENS! You see, Hudson Horror Show has become one of the most highly-anticipated events on the East Coast, and as a result, has outgrown its current home. But the Empire South Hills 8 has been such a great venue that Chris Alo and friends didn't want to take the show elsewhere, so showing films on two screens just seemed to make a whole lot of sense!

I'm sure you're super curious about how this is all going to work, and I shall explain, but first (as stated in my Hudson Horror Survival Guide) you need to GET YOUR TICKETS ASAP! To do that, you'll have to visit the official Hudson Horror Show site (www.hudsonhorror.com) on Saturday, October 17th at 11:00 AM EST. When you order, there will be TWO BUTTONS to click on (Theater #1 and Theater #6), so plan accordingly. If you're bringing friends with you, make sure you buy tickets for the same theater!

As for the 35mm prints being shown, rest easy knowing that BOTH theaters will be showing the SAME SIX MOVIES, but the lineup on each screen will be different! So while you're gazing at the insanity of DEMONOID, your pals in the other theater will be enjoying the tunes of Sorcery during STUNT ROCK! And while your night may end with HALLOWEEN II, mine could end with Walter Hill's THE WARRIORS. Regardless of which theater you're sitting in, you will see ALL SIX FILMS IN 35MM!

Also, start times will be staggered for both theaters: One will kick things off fifteen minutes early, while the second screen will kick things off fifteen minutes later. This is being attempted in the hopes that the snack bar and bathrooms don't get jammed up, since more people will be attending than ever before!

I know this is all kind of crazy, but I think it's a solid plan, and hopefully I've explained it clearly enough. If not, drop me a line at vault_master@bmoviefilmvault.com. And if I don't have the answers, send your inquiries to chris@hudsonhorror.com, and get the facts straight from the horse's mouth!

So what is being shown at the 12th edition of Poughkeepsie's famous Hudson Horror Show? I'm glad you asked!

DEMONOID - Presented by Vinegar Syndrome (who will vending at this show, and selling copies of their new DEMONOID blu-ray!), this 1981 horror flick from Mexico is crazy! After discovering an ancient Satanic temple, miners unleash "Satan's Left Hand" upon the world! The  hand possesses people, then kills them when they attempt to have it removed. This movie is hilariously bonkers and should make for a great time!

STUNT ROCK - Australian stuntman Grant Page stars as himself in this once lost 80s classic, where he comes to America to do stunts for heavy metal band SORCERY (who did the soundtrack to ROCKTOBER BLOOD)! I've never seen this one before but I'm really looking forward to it!

FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2 - Presented by The B-Movie Film Vault (a.k.a. ME!), this is one of the most important slasher films of the 80s! Years after the events of FRIDAY THE 13TH, a new group of counselors settles in near the ruins of Camp Crystal Lake (now referred to as "Camp Blood"). Despite warnings, the "teens" venture off to the old camp and incur the wrath of the sack-masked Jason Voorhees! This is Jason's big screen debut, and it features one of my fave onscreen deaths! I can't wait to see this with an audience!

HALLOWEEN II - This sequel picks right up from where the original left off. Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), the sole survivor of Michael Myers' killing spree, is taken to the hospital. Meanwhile Sam Loomis (Donald Pleasance) continues to seek out his psychotic mental patient, who is still on the loose and looking to murder Laurie. Why is Michael Myers so intent on murdering Laurie Strode?! See HALLOWEEN II to find out!

THE WARRIORS - A gang has to fight their way through the mean streets of New York and back to their home turf on Coney Island when they are framed for the murder of a major gang leader. Finally, I can see the unaltered theatrical cut of Walter Hill's cult classic in 35mm! JOY!

THE MYSTERY MOVIE
- The mystery movie never fails to deliver the goods, and there's been so many cool ones over the past few years. Will it have vampires or killer animals? Is it a slasher flick? A Horror anthology? You won't know until the projector fires up!

As always, each film will be preceded with contests and giveaways, as well as cool 35mm trailer reels, and there will also be plenty of vendors selling toys, DVDs, Blu-rays, posters, clothing, and other collectibles! So get your tickets, put aside some spending money, and save the date!

Once again tickets go on sale this coming Saturday (October 17th) at 11:00 AM EST at HudsonHorror.com! Don't miss out! Pre-order your tickets as soon as they become available, and maybe I'll see you in Poughkeepsie in December!

Hudson Horror Show 11 Event Schedule!

Saturday June 13th marks the triumphant return of the always awesome HUDSON HORROR SHOW. I've been attending this since their fourth show and haven't missed one since (unless you count their double feature of TOURIST TRAP and TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD at the Alamo Drafthouse)!

This time around, yours truly (who has previously inflicted INFRA-MAN and LADY TERMINATOR on the unsuspecting audience) will be sponsoring and introducing a very cool MYSTERY MOVIE to kick things off. All I can tell you is that it's a great 80s horror flick that grew on me over the years. It features a stellar cast, and was directed by an Academy Award Winner. (Sorry, but no more hints!)

Along with that, there will be four other amazing films, including MS.45, MADMAN, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST. 2: FREDDY'S REVENGE, and Steven Spielberg's JAWS. Tickets have been sold out for weeks, so sadly, many of you reading this will be missing out on the 35mm goodness. However, the vendors area will be open to the public, and you will also have a chance to meet Bill Diamond ("The Muppet Master"), as well as MADMAN producer Gary Sales, and actors Jimmy Steele (Richie), and Paul Ehlers (Madman Marz)! Oh and you can even catch a quick photo op with a mock-up of "Bruce" the Great White Shark's head!

For those of you who WILL be watching the day's five films, here's the....

HUDSON HORROR SHOW 11 EVENT SCHEDULE

If you're new to the world of Hudson Horror Show (or just film fests in general), then be sure to read my SURVIVAL GUIDE before attending. It could just save your life!

HUDSON HORROR SHOW 11 is going to epic, and I cannot to see my favorite movie of all time (JAWS, natch) on the big screen, in 35mm! To me, everything else is just buckets of delicious, diabetes-causing icing on the proverbial cake.

So hopefully I'll see YOU at the theater this coming Saturday! I've got some great stuff to give away so brush up on your trivia, and prepare for one of the greatest days of your cinema-loving lives!

SEE YOU AT THE SHOW!
