Scream Factory to Release Five Limited Blu-ray Exclusive Titles!

Scream Factory is trying something a little new: They are doing limited runs of several cult film titles that they wouldn't normally have given major Blu-ray releases to. (Essentially it seems to be an experiment to see if what works for Twilight Time works for them.)

To kick things off, here are the first five titles that will be limited to a mere 1,000 Blu-ray discs each. They will be available exclusively through Shout! Factory's online store for $26.99 each!

Available on August 30th!

Film Synopsis:
Deathstalker (Richard Hill) is a mighty warrior chosen to battle the evil forces of a medieval kingdom who sets off on a journey to the most challenging tournament in the land. To the winner will go the throne of the evil wizard, the ultimate mystical power and the love of the beautiful Princess Codille (Barbi Benton). Davide Melini rekindles man's biggest fear this October with LION!

Man's Biggest Fear Has Risen Again

I was recently contacted by filmmaker Davide Melini, who has worked on ROME, MOTHER OF TEARS, and PENNY DREADFUL. He is currently finishing up post-production on his upcoming short LION, and was eager to share some info about it.

Synopsis: An isolated chalet in a snowy forest... A man blinded by alcohol... A woman unable to rebel... And an 8-year-old child troubled and dark... The silent night is broken with cries... the start of a terrible nightmare...

Written and directed by Davide Melini, LION was shot in the UK, using the Red Epic Dragon 6K, and stars Pedro Sánchez, Michael Segal (COLOUR FROM THE DARK, ANGER OF THE DEAD), and Tania Mercader.

Melini's short was produced by Luca Vannella (THOR, HARRY POTTER, APOCALYPTO, HEART OF THE SEA), Alexis Continente (THOR, PENNY DREADFUL), Vincenzo Mastrantonio (TITANIC, MOULIN ROUGE, THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, ROMEO + JULIET), Bobby Holland (THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, Game of Thrones, SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS, 007 - QUANTUM OF SOLACE), Ferdinando Merolla (TROY, GANGS OF NEW YORK, HANNIBAL RISING), and Roberto Paglialunga.

LION is due out sometime in late October. When I get an official release date, I'll be sure to share it here! In the meantime, scope out the teaser trailer below!

Phan-tastic News: Well Go USA snags rights to distribute Coscarelli's Phantasm series!

File the following press release under "things you never thought you'd see in your lifetime." I got an e-mail yesterday from Well Go USA touting some of the best news I've heard in some time: They had picked up the distribution rights to Don Coscarelli's PHANTASM! Remastered in 4K (spearheaded by J.J. Abrams!), the film has been promised a small theatrical re-release (September 24th!) and a (finally!) legit Blu-ray release as well. But the good news did not stop there fellow Tall Man phans....

Along with PHANTASM: REMASTERED, Well Go USA is also issuing HD redos of PHANTASM III: LORD OF THE DEAD and PHANTASM: OBLIVION. Plus.... they are releasing PHANTASM RAVAGER theatrically (select theaters on October 7th) and on VOD, DVD, and Blu-ray later this year! Go ahead and scream with delight. It's ok, I'll wait.

While you may be wondering why PHANTASM II is missing from the news, it is because that particular sequel is currently available exclusively through Scream Factory. Here's hoping that Scream Factory works with Well Go USA to give us phans a complete collector's set on DVD & Blu-ray (not an impossibility when you realize that there's been Blu-ray sets for FRIDAY THE 13TH and HALLOWEEN). At the very least, Well Go USA should creature a box to house their four discs, and leave a little space to fit your copy of PHANTASM II into it. (Because let's face it, if you're reading this, you probably own it.)

For a further details, scope out the press release below and get excited!!
Well Go USA Entertainment announced its acquisition of North American rights for Don Coscarelli’s legendary Phantasm series, including: An all-new 4K restoration of the original 1979 cult classic, Phantasm: Remastered, never-before-seen HD restorations of 1994’s Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead and 1998’s Phantasm IV: Oblivion, and the long-anticipated debut of the fifth and final film in the series, 2016’s Phantasm: Ravager.

On October 7th, for the first time ever, the Phantasm series will be available in remastered, high-definition versions across all cable and digital platforms.

A Blu-ray and DVD Collector’s Edition Set of the Phantasm series will follow later this year, along with individual Blu-rays and DVDs of Phantasm: Remastered and Phantasm: Ravager, all of which will be packed with special bonus features.

Phantasm: Remastered and Phantasm: Ravager will hit theaters as well. Phantasm: Remastered will screen across the county as part of the inaugural Art House Theater Day on September 24, 2016, and Phantasm: Ravager will be released in select theaters on October 7th, day and date with its digital HD release. In addition, fans across the country will have the ability to bring both films to their hometowns using Tugg, an innovative platform that empowers individuals and groups to host screenings in their local theaters and community venues.

Phantasm: Remastered came into being when filmmaker J.J. Abrams, a fan of the original, wanted to screen the film for his team at Bad Robot Productions- only to find the available prints in terrible shape. Working on the premises of Bad Robot with their expert staff, director Don Coscarelli was invited by J.J. to supervise a meticulous 4K digital remaster using their state-of-the-art tools. This included a brand-new 5.1 audio mix using the original stems, ensuring Phantasm will forever be available to scare the hell out of generations to come with perfect picture and sound.

Phantasm: Ravager is an all-new film that brings one of cinema’s longest-running franchises (36 years!) without a reboot to a close, with Mike (A. Michael Baldwin) and Reggie (Reggie Banister) teaming up to confront the dimension-hopping Tall Man (Angus Scrimm, in his final role) once and for all.

“The Phantasm films are iconic, and Well Go is ecstatic to have them. We get to bring a classic to a whole new audience with Phantasm: Remastered, and with Phantasm: Ravager we get to bring the die-hard fans - of which I am one - the closure they’ve been waiting for,” said Dylan Marchetti, SVP of Well Go USA Entertainment. “This is the kind of deal that every distributor dreams of doing, and when you get to do it with a true independent like Don, well, that’s just the extra cherry on the sundae.”

"I’m thrilled to be working with Well Go USA and their talented and dedicated team,” said Phantasm creator Don Coscarelli. “I am excited by their innovative new ideas and intense drive to bring the Phantasm franchise to a new generation of fans."

Phantasm: Remastered, Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead, and Phantasm IV: Oblivion were written and directed by Don Coscarelli. Phantasm: Ravager was written by Coscarelli and David Hartman, executive produced by Brad Baruh, and directed by Hartman. All films star Angus Scrimm, Reggie Bannister, and A. Michael Baldwin.
As excited as I am for this news, I do have a few reservations, but that's mainly because I'm largely unfamiliar with Well Go USA. Aside from a few foreign titles (TAI CHI ZERO, TAI CHI HERO, and CHRONICLES OF THE GHOSTLY TRIBE) I haven't seen enough of their releases to decide if they are up to the task. Here's hoping that they knock it out of the park with the design of the packing and cover art, and most importantly, the extras!

Details on Well Go USA's upcoming DVDs and Blu-rays have yet to be released, so stay tuned as I anxiously await more updates!

Scream Factory announces 13 awesome new titles at 2016 San Diego Comic-Con!

Along with the cool announcements from various toy companies (like NECA), and the flood of awesome teaser trailers for upcoming films and TV shows, the most highly anticipated moment in this household is the aftermath of Scream Factory's Comic Con panel! While last year was pretty exceptional, I think they've easily topped it with these upcoming releases. Take a deep breath fellow Scream Factory fans, and please remain seated, because these thirteen upcoming Blu-ray titles are gonna rock your world!

This cult classic features Bruce Campbell and Ossie Davis as Elvis and JFK respectively. Both men team up to stop a soul-sucking mummy that's been attacking residents at their retirement home.

HOLY COW! I NEVER thought this would get a legit release, let alone from the powers that be at Scream Factory! What's even cooler is that...

The sequel is getting released too! More killer rat high jinks, and a classic Michael Jackson theme song!

Bob Clark's slasher classic is looking to get a major high-def upgrade!

Not too shocked by this, as Scream Factory does now own the distribution rights to a lot of former MGM titles! This sequel boasts Native American themes, and the ultra creepy Reverend Henry Kane!

Even this much-maligned sequel is getting the royal treatment. Reverend Kane returns to try and claim Carol Anne, leading to a lots of sleight of hand with mirrors and stand-ins for young Heather O'Rourke, who passed away before filming was completed.

I adore this movie, and can't wait to see what extras Scream Factory adds to this release! Dennis Quaid  can jump into people's dreams (among other things), and battles a psychopath who is trying to murder the US president.

This David Cronenberg classic features Marilyn Chambers as the unfortunate host of an experimental treatment after she is in a motorcycle accident. The result is an armpit orifice that infects people and turns them violent and bitey.

Another Cronenberg favorite featuring Jeremy Irons. Identical twin brother gynecologists turn on each other, when a woman comes between them. |

A double dose of driller killers attacking slumber parties! This is a must own in my book!

An early AIP “slasher” film, where the students at a school for wayward girls begin disappearing one by one. Never seen it, but looking forward to adding it to my collection regardless.

Mary Steenburgen plays a struggling actress who attends a private taped audition at the secluded mansion at the behest of a Mr. Murray (the late and great Roddy McDowell). But soon, she realizes that things aren't as they seem, and ends up fleeing for her life.

Well, what say you Vault Dwellers? Are you as excited as I am?! While a few of these films are relatively unknown to yours truly, I have to say that I am super excited for at least 80% of these titles!

Word is that some of these will see a release in November, so start saving some money, and keep an eye out for official release dates, disc specs, and extras, because I will be sharing them as soon as they arrive in my inbox!

Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie deliver Oscar-nominated performances, and John Travolta and Amy Irving are terrific in this ultimate revenge fantasy that has become one of the all-time great horror classics!

Sometimes They Come Back: 60s band "The Sloths" are "Back from the Grave!"

I got this cool tip a little while ago from B.C. BUTCHER director Kansas Bowling, and thought I'd share with you my faithful Vault Dwellers! Recently a garage band from the 60s called "The Sloths" has gotten back together.

Though two of the original members have passed, they're vacant spots have been filled, and now this long forgotten band has cut a new album, and is currently on tour!

So why is this newsworthy you may be wondering? Because lead vocalist Tom McLoughlin, wrote and directed FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VI: JASON LIVES! (He also directed ONE DARK NIGHT, DATE WITH AN ANGEL, and STEPHEN KING'S SOMETIMES THEY COME BACK!) It's cool enough that a group of old friends have reunited to take a second crack at being musicians, but it's even cooler knowing that they're fronted by the guy who reinvigorated the FRIDAY THE 13TH franchise!

I've sampled a few tracks from "The Sloths" and I kind of dig 'em. Feel free to check out their new album (Back From the Grave) below, as well as their cool music video for their song, "One Way Out!"

BALLET OF BLOOD makes its graceful leap to Blu-ray!

About a year ago, I posted about BALLET OF BLOOD's DVD & VHS release. (Right HERE to be exact.) Since then, the film has been released on Blu-ray, boasting an all new high-def transfer and extras that weren't included on the previous release. Read on to learn more about this tale of murderous ballerinas!

Film Synopsis: After years of emotional abuse and body shaming, two ballerina's drug-fueled fantasy, of viciously attacking their ballet school, becomes reality. Meanwhile, a nerdy ballerina starts writing a novel based on the events that transpired, deeply offending some for turning such sensitive material into a book for young audiences.

Soon, her and her sister realize every word being typed is somehow altering real life. Will this strange and psychedelic paralleling fantasy carry the sisters, along with anyone else, to a merciless blood-splattered doom?

BALLET OF BLOOD was written and directed by Jared Masters, and stars Sydney Raye and Jessica Knopf, as the partners in crime. The film also features Laura Amelia as the dance teacher, Delphine, and Julia Faye West as company co-owner, and Mindy Robinson as the prima ballerina.

BALLET OF BLOOD has won the Audience Choice Award at the 2015 RIP International Horror Film Festival, and was also nominated for Best Acting Ensemble and Best Editing.

  • Never before seen audition tapes.

The Killer Shrews have returned and are schlockier than ever!

I was contacted recently by Ken Cosentino, the man behind a remake of 1959's THE KILLER SHREWS! The aptly titled ATTACK OF THE KILLER SHREWS is due out later this year on DVD, and will be a loving parody of the low-budget classic that many of us first witnessed on MST3K! For more info on this new film, read the press release below.

"For the past two years, Niagara Falls based White Lion Studios has been cooking up something awful: A splatstick remake to the 1959 cult classic THE KILLER SHREWS, a low budget creature feature made popular by Mystery Science Theater 3000.

The original film, directed by Ray Kellogg and starring James Best, is best known for it's schlocky monster puppets and dogs in costumes. "We did our very best to stay true to the original," says writer/director Ken Cosentino, "Our puppets are really quite terrible and there's hardly any CGI used in our version." Cosentino has worked as a hired gun for companies such as Troma (RETURN OF NUKE 'EM HIGH VOLUMES 1 & 2) and The Asylum (ATLANTIC RIM). This is his fourth feature film as director.

The remake stars Bill Kennedy and Elizabeth Houlihan, as well as newcomer (to acting), legendary animator Jonathan Rogers (aka John Leach). At 78 years young, Rogers promises to steal the show with his physical comedy. The film also includes a special introduction by Lloyd Kaufman, the creator of "The Toxic Avenger."

ATTACK OF THE KILLER SHREWS is slated to be released this September by White Lion Studios. Says Cosentino, "We decided from the very beginning to distribute it ourselves. We really want to make sure that it finds it's audience.... b-movie lovers and fans of the original, because this is a love song to Kellogg's cult classic."

For more information, please visit the film's official website at, and the Official Facebook Page!"

Please note Vault Dwellers, that yes, there is in fact a low-budget sequel to the original Ray Kellogg film called RETURN OF THE KILLER SHREWS (with James Best reprising his role from the 1959 classic). It has nothing to do with this movie!

Watch the trailer for ATTACK OF THE KILLER SHREWS below, and stay tuned for more updates!
