When There's No More Room in Hell, the Dead Will Walk the Earth - Zach Snyder's DAWN OF THE DEAD comes to 4K UHD in early 2023!

 

SCREAM FACTORY CONTINUES THEIR MARATHON OF DOUBLE DIPS WITH THE 4K RELEASE OF THE "DAWN OF THE DEAD" REMAKE!

I keep saying it, and others seem to agree - Scream Factory is the second coming of Anchor Bay! (Ha!) Though they have continued to release surprise titles (most recently THE HOT BOX and THE WARRIOR AND THE SORCERESS), cool Horror collectibles, and modern fright favorites to Blu-ray and 4K disc (e.g. FREAKY), a huge part of Shout!/Scream's current business model is getting collectors to use their hard-earned cash to buy the same titles again and again! I mean it was inevitable that Scream Factory would eventually embrace the 4K UHD format, but damn, they could at least sweeten the deal by including some new extras along with the new transfer, right?! 

That all being said, let's take a look at Scream's upcoming 4K release of the James Gunn-penned/Zach Snyder-directed DAWN OF THE DEAD remake that is way better than it has any right to be! If you don't already own it, then you may want to hold out for this release. And if you do already own it.... you are probably breaking into a cold sweat right now and starting the process of talking yourself into ordering the 4K, even though you just got the Collector's Edition Blu-ray during the last Shocktober sale....

I've been a longtime fan of ALONE IN THE DARK - it has a fantastic cast, and a great premise! Martin Landau and Jack Palance often steal the show, and Donald Pleasance's role is an unexpectedly fun departure from his previous work in the HALLOWEEN series. Though ALONE IN THE DARK has languished in limbo for well over a decade, I am pleased to announce that for those of us that were lucky to acquire a copy of the 2005 Special Edition DVD, the time has finally come to upgrade!

As prophesied two years ago by yours truly in a certain Wanted on Blu-ray post, ALONE IN THE DARK is about to be released by Scream Factory with new (reversible) artwork, a new 2K transfer, and a variety of new and archival bonus features! On February 25th, PET SEMATARY TWO Claws Its Way Out of a Shallow Grave and Onto Blu-ray Disc!

Growing up, I had a fascination with the written works of Stephen King, and the film adaptations that resulted from them. So when PET SEMATARY TWO suddenly appeared one day on the shelves at a local Blockbuster Video, I was psyched!

But despite being directed by Mary Lambert (who previously directed the original PET SEMATARY) and having an amazing cast (which included post-TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY Edward Furlong, the REVENGE OF THE NERDS series' Anthony Edwards, and "The Kurgan" himself, Clancy Brown!), this film just never clicked with me, and I still have yet to revisit it nearly three decades later. That being said, Scream Factory really went all-in on this release, so maybe PET SEMATARY TWO is worth giving another chance?

Synopsis: Sometimes dead is better. But the shocking terror that plagued Ludlow, Maine, in Pet Sematary is still very much alive in this sequel to the 1989 hit film.

After the death of his wife, veterinarian Chase Matthews (Anthony Edwards - ZODIAC) and his 13-year-old son, Jeff (Edward Furlong - TERMINATOR: DARK FATE), move to Ludlow to rebuild their lives. Canada's Greatest Slasher Film Gets a Definitive Blu-ray Release Just in Time For Valentine's Day!

SCREAM FACTORY GOES ALL OUT WITH THEIR 2-DISC COLLECTOR'S EDITION OF GEORGE MIHALKA'S CLASSIC SLASHER - OWN IT ON FEBRUARY 11TH!

I grew up on a steady diet of heavily-edited slasher films when I was a kid, and typically gravitated toward the usual suspects. (i.e. Michael Meyers, Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, Leatherface, etc.) I eventually got out of my slasher comfort zone in my early teens, and finally got to see many classics in their R-rated glory, while also discovering numerous non-franchise slasher gems like MY BLOODY VALENTINE! This film in particular became an instant favorite, and I was filled with excitement when Lionsgate released it to Blu-ray back in 2009 with various gory bits edited back into the movie! With a new HD transfer, restored footage (thought lost for many years), and new extras, clearly there was no way anyone could top that long out of print Blu-ray release.... UNTIL NOW.

MY BLOODY VALENTINE (1981 - COLLECTOR'S EDITION)

Synopsis: On Valentine's Day, someone always loses their heart. Twenty years ago, this small town lost more than that.
