SCREAM FACTORY BRINGS MARK YOUNG'S "FERAL" TO BLU-RAY ON OCTOBER 2ND!
While the plot of FERAL isn't anything new (campers stranded at a cabin in the woods, where one by one they succumb to a deadly virus) it seems like this latest IFC Midnight offering from Scream Factory has a few tricks up its sleeve, and could prove to be an interesting watch. Let's take a closer look at this upcoming Blu-ray title Vault Dwellers!
Synopsis: Your best friend has just been infected with a horrifying virus that
will soon turn her into a rabid, rampaging cannibal zombie. Do you: a)
try to save her? Or b) kill her before she kills you? That's the
nightmarish scenario six students find themselves facing when their
celebratory camping trip goes terrifyingly wrong.
One by one, each falls
victim to the "feral" disease, until only Alice (Scout Taylor-Compton, Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN) and Jules (Olivia Luccardi, IT FOLLOWS) — two
girlfriends testing the waters of their new relationship — are left
standing, armed with a shotgun and holed up in a remote cabin. They've
got a hell of a fight before them if they hope to survive in this grisly
blend of survival thriller and contagion shocker.

KINO LORBER STUDIO CLASSICS BRINGS "THE NIGHT STALKER" AND "THE NIGHT STRANGLER" TO BLU-RAY WITH NEW 4K TRANSFERS AND EXTRAS!
I was pretty late to the game with Kolchak: The Night Stalker Vault Dwellers, but I instantly fell in love with this classic (but sadly short-lived) TV series after catching an episode on the OLD Sci-Fi (not SyFy) Channel back in the day. The episode was titled Chopper (Episode 15 of Season 1) and featured a headless motorcyclist seeking vengeance from the grave!
I wouldn't reacquaint myself with Kolchak until decades later when I was in my early twenties. At the time I was a devout collector of MGM Midnight Movies, and I picked up the double-feature release of THE NIGHT STALKER and THE NIGHT STRANGLER! Then the following year, I immediately purchased the complete series on DVD and marathoned the films and episodes throughout the course of a few days - I had Kolchak fever!
And now the TV films that started it all are coming to Blu-ray, fully restored (in 4K!) and packed with special features! If you're a Kolchak fan, a.) you have great taste and b.) YOU NEED THESE BLU-RAYS IN YOUR COLLECTION!
THE NIGHT STALKER (1972)
Synopsis: After several high-profile newspapers fire him for his difficult
attitude, investigative journalist Carl Kolchak (Darren McGavin - A CHRISTMAS STORY), finds a job following
the police beat for a small Las Vegas publication. When Carl discovers a
series of dead showgirls drained of blood with bite marks on their
necks, the police hesitate to take the case any further, and his boss
wants nothing to do with the story, leading Carl to believe there may be
a real vampire prowling the city streets.
THE NIGHT STALKER will be in stock at all your favorite retailers on Tuesday, October 2nd, and should cost you between $18 - $20. Order yourself a copy now from AMAZON, BULLMOOSE, or DIABOLIK DVD!
THE NIGHT STRANGLER (1973)
Synopsis: Supernatural phenomena, baffling murders and offbeat humor mark this
second Night Stalker offering with a great cast and suspense so
palpable, it'll feel like a presence right there in the room with you.
Surfacing in Seattle, Kolchak (Darren McGavin)
uncovers another maddening mystery: Every 21 years - for the past century
- a serial killer commits a spree of murders, drains his victims' blood
and then quietly disappears.
But Kolchak is on to this monster and is
about to discover a shocking underground lair... an army of rotting
corpses... and the ageless madman behind it all. The great Dan Curtis
(BURNT OFFERINGS) produced and directed this highly-rated TV movie
written by legendary sci-fi/horror writer Richard Matheson (I Am Legend).

GET A DOUBLE DOSE OF NATIVE AMERICAN FOLKLORE WITH MILL CREEK'S LATEST BARGAIN-PRICED BLU-RAY RELEASE!
UPDATE (10/02/2018): The street date for Mill Creek's NIGHTWING / SHADOW OF THE HAWK Blu-ray has been pushed back yet again! Now it is due out on October 23rd.
I am so overcome with joy Vault Dwellers! When I saw this double feature Blu-ray pop up for pre-order on Amazon, there was absolutely NO hesitation when I added it to my cart. Both NIGHTWING and SHADOW OF THE HAWK were both staples of my youth, and I have fond memories of watching them late at night on TNT.
NIGHTWING is a supernatural thriller disguised as a "nature strikes back" flick, and has flocks of vampire bats attacking people in the deserts of New Mexico. SHADOW OF THE HAWK is an adventure tale about Jan-Michael Vincent accepting his role as a medicine man in order to defeat an evil witch! This one has some truly eerie moments, and one particularly memorable scene where a demonic car crashes into an invisible wall! (Such a cool effect!)
I haven't seen any reviews about the film transfers yet, but they have to be better than the VHS-rips I've been watching for the past decade! Regardless, next week I'll be excitedly popping this disc into my Blu-ray player, and taking a trip down memory lane!
SHADOW OF THE HAWK Synopsis: The aging Indian medicine man Old Man Hawk arrives in the city to
request help of his grandson Mike, a successful business executive. Old
Man Hawk is fighting a sorcerous war with the witch Dsonqua who was
executed two hundred years before and is now seeking revenge. Mike, who
has no interest in the Indian ways, is reluctantly drawn in to helping.
Joined by a woman journalist named Maureen, Mike agrees to drive his
grandfather three hundred miles home. But along the way Dsonqua
increases her efforts and summons magical forces to destroy them.
Directed by George McCowan and Daryl Duke, and starring Jan-Michael
Vincent (THE MECHANIC, WHITE LINE FEVER), Chief Dan George (LITTLE BIG MAN, OUTLAW JOSEY WALES), Anna Hagan, and Marilyn Hassett (TWO-MINUTE WARNING, MESSENGER OF DEATH).

Despite the lack of extras, I can't complain about this release because neither film has been released in HD before, and the cost is pretty darned low. (Between $8 - $15.) Order yourself a copy of this super cool double feature now from AMAZON, BULLMOOSE, DIABOLIK DVD, or directly from MILL CREEK ENTERTAINMENT!

Synopsis: On a black and unholy Halloween night years ago, little Michael Myers
brutally slaughtered his sister in cold blood. But for the last fifteen
years, town residents have rested easy, knowing that he was safely

returns to the same quiet neighborhood to relive his grisly murder
again…and again…and again. For this is a night of evil. Tonight is

For more information on these titles, plus all of Umbrella's other September releases, continue reading!
* Also due out on October 3rd is their next title in their Beyond Genres line: THE QUIET EARTH. This release boasts a new restoration of the film and comes with new cover art plus several extras!
BEYOND GENRES VOLUME 5: SPIRITS OF THE AIR, GREMLINS OF THE CLOUDS (1989)

When their peaceful river existence is shattered by a violent attack, Andy takes his family ashore to seek help for his badly injured wife. But this decision ends in tragedy when Kay meets a grisly demise and Andy is not only infected himself but left with only 48 hours to find a new guardian for their child, before he transforms into one of the creatures they have fought so long to evade.
As Andy travels further inland, it becomes apparent that Rosie’s best chance of survival may be with a flourishing Aboriginal community. But their merciless attitude toward the afflicted also poses a grave threat. Andy’s fate soon becomes entwined with that of a young Indigenous girl, Thoomi, who could be his safe passage into this community. But unfortunately, the girl has no desire to return to her people – she is on a quest to cure her own infected father by returning his stolen soul. Synopsis: THE CITY OF LOST CHILDREN is a dazzling fantasy adventure from Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro, creators of DELICATESSEN. They bring their surreal vision to the story of Krank, a tormented scientist who sets about kidnapping local children in order to steal their dreams and reverse his accelerated aging process. When Krank's henchmen kidnap his brother, local fisherman and former circus strongman One (Ron Perlman) sets out on a journey to Krank's nightmarish laboratory, accompanied by a little orphan girl called Miette.
With stunning visuals from Darius Khondji, costumes by Jean-Paul Gaultier and a haunting score by David Lynch collaborator Angelo Badalamenti, THE CITY OF LOST CHILDREN cemented Jeunet and Caro's reputation as film-makers with a unique vision.

Synopsis: Watch your back as the trendsetters of Westerberg High School are chewing up the scenery and may just have you in their evil sights in this razor-sharp black comedy about peer group peril. Up to her neck in vitriol and sick of it, popular teenager Veronica Sawyer (Winona Ryder, BEETLEJUICE, EDWARD SCISSORHANDS) finds herself in a tiresome tide of ins and outs, part of a cruel social clique so wrapped up in their own making that no one else stands a chance.
She decides to challenge the malevolent rule of the self-appointed divas of the school scene, the Heathers (Shannen Doherty, Lisanne Falk and Kim Walker), and begins a torrid journey of blackmail, sex, revenge and murder. With the aid of rebellious newcomer Jason Dean (Christian Slater, TRUE ROMANCE) Veronica is set to revolutionise the classroom and turn popular perception upside down.
Crackling in high definition, the original '80s cult classic is in top form and returns us to a time of 'swatch dogs,' 'diet coke heads,' and a bunch of croquet playing queen bees that will have you laughing to the last despicable gasp!

Synopsis: In a quiet subruban street, in a nice middle-class suburb, a vicious killer stalks. Behind the face of a respected, well-liked man, a loving husband and father hides the mind of a sadistic, cold-blooded serial killer responsible for the torture-deaths of more than two dozen children and young men. Brian Dennehy stars in this chilling tale of suspense as the notorious John Wayne Gacy.
Police Lieutenant Joseph Kozenczak, assigned to a routine disappearance case, begins to suspect that this pillar of the community has something to hide. Suspicion turns to obsession as Kozenczak is pressured by his superiors to give up the investigation while he is locked in a taunting cat-and-mouse game with the calculating Gacy. Even as the tenacious detective closes in, Gacy plots his next unspeakable act, sizing up his next victim.
Also starring Margot Kidder (SUPERMAN, BLACK CHRISTMAS), Meg Foster (THEY LIVE, LEVIATHAN) and Michael Riley (This is Wonderland) TO CATCH A KILLER is genuine edge-of-your-seat suspense, all the more chocking because it's based on the facts of John Wayne Gacy's real-life reign of terror.

MATT FRAMES' MICRO-BUDGET PARODY OF "FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3" WILL BEGIN TOURING FESTIVALS SOON!
Amid the constant stream of press releases and spam e-mails that reach the Vault's inbox, there lurks correspondences and greetings from multiple indie filmmakers from across the globe. While I do try my best to answer back and help them spread the word about their films, it is a daunting task! But the reward is that films I would have otherwise been unaware of are brought to my attention, like CAMP DEATH 3 IN 2D!
The brainchild of Canadian filmmaker Matt Frames, CAMP DEATH 3 IN 2D is a low-budget (i.e. $35,000) Horror-Comedy that pokes fun at (arguably) one of the greatest 3D Horror films of all time! (Having seen it in legit 3D twice on the big screen, I can vouch for its awesomeness!) CAMP DEATH 3 IN 2D is making its big debut at the Requiem FearFest in Montreal (which kicked off yesterday), followed by screenings at other film festivals as the months tick by. There's word yet on a DVD, Blu-ray, or digital release at this time, so be on the look out for updates once I have more information!
Film Synopsis: Camp Crystal Meph has reopened but the curse of killer Johann Van
Damme continues. Camp 'Death' has been given a new life as rehab center
for mentally ill adults yet an unseen evil begins to murder campers and
staff alike. Has Johann risen from the grave or is this the work of a
copycat?

ARTIST JOHN ROONEY'S LATEST PROJECT IS A LOVING TRIBUTE TO THE FILMS OF ACTOR NICHOLAS CAGE!
I enjoy a good (or bad) Nicholas Cage flick as much as anyone, but I would NEVER dare to watch ALL of his movies in one endless marathon! But that's exactly what artist John Rooney did!
Inspired to create a caricature of every character Nic Cage has ever portrayed, John sat down and worked this way through Cage's entire filmography. The end result? A super cool poster devoted to every family man and mad man that Nic Cage has ever played onscreen! (John even included Nic Cage Superman from the film that never was!)
Sound incredibly enticing, and almost too good to be true? Well then feast your eyes upon this:
If you've fallen in love with this poster, you can buy one from John Rooney's Etsy store HERE. The cost is a smidge under $55.00 and it will be mailed within a heavy duty shipping tube for protection. Then all you'll need is a nice poster frame so that you can hang this on your living room wall as the ultimate conversation piece!
Poster Specs: This print is signed by the artist and has been professionally printed on 150gsm matte finish paper. The paper size of the print is A2: 420mm (width) X 594mm (height) / 16.5 x 23.3 inches. (A 17 x 24 frame would most likely suit this poster best.)
Be sure to check out John's other artistic works on his Official Website, and don't forget to follow him on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to see his current works in progress! And if you're curious if he does commissions, well he does!
MICHAEL WINNER'S CROWD-PLEASING CINEMATIC ODDITY IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR THE FIRST TIME ON BLU-RAY FROM SCREAM FACTORY!
Few announcements shocked and excited me as much as Scream Factory's declaration that they were adding SCREAM FOR HELP to their catalog at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. (This of course, came just several months after we highlighted this bizarre film in our WANTED ON BLU-RAY column so.... I'll take a bit of the credit. Haha!)
I had first experienced this film several years ago during Exhumed Film's 24-Hour Horrorthon in Philadelphia, where SCREAM FOR HELP energized the audience, and instantly became a crowd favorite! This movie is a must buy for yours truly, but if you're still on the fence, read more about it below!
Synopsis: Terror invades an upper-class New York community as 17-year old Christie Cromwell cleverly uncovers her stepfather's horrifying plot to murder her wealthy mother. She's on to him, yet no one will believe her because she's just a kid: smart, imaginative, maybe she's just taken a crazy idea to the limit. Suspense builds when a series of shocking events confirms her worst fears. Alone, afraid and helpless, terrified Christie and her mother are held prisoner in their own home at the mercy of ruthless killers.

ZACHARY WILL'S DEBUT FEATURE PITS A DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY AGAINST THEIR LYCANTHROPIC GRANDMOTHER!
While a large portion of our time here at the News Vault is dedicated to reporting on physical media (i.e. DVD & Blu-ray releases), we do try to sprinkle in news about upcoming films as well - especially independent films that fall into genres that are part of our wheelhouse.
Speaking of which, today we'd like to shine a spotlight on a new micro-budget Horror-Comedy from a young director named Zachary Will. After two successful Kickstarter campaigns, Zachary put together a production crew, assembled a cast, and shot his first feature-length film at his family's cabin. GRANDMA WEREWOLF won "Best Picture (Under $25,000)" at the International New York Film Festival, and is scheduled for numerous theatrical screenings in late October, and early November.
Synopsis: When a dysfunctional family goes to their recently widowed grandmother’s cabin for Thanksgiving, they find out their grandma is actually a werewolf. They must work together, steal a silver sword, and learn magic to stop their werewolf grandmother from causing mayhem.
About the Director: Though this is Zachary Will’s first feature film, he has plenty of experience behind the camera, having directed over 50 short films, including an award-winning documentary. Zach received a Bachelor of Science from Full Sail University, where he wrote the first draft of GRANDMA WEREWOLF. After graduating, he moved to Atlanta, GA to pursue his film career. Prior to the project, Zach worked on TV shows for an Emmy award winning production company and on corporate projects for WebMD, Home Depot, Sears, Bloomberg, Sears, the Atlanta Braves, and more.
Stills & Trailer: (Click on images to enlarge them.)
GRANDMA WEREWOLF is currently scheduled for theatrical screenings at several venues late next month (CLICK HERE for listings), with a possible DVD (and digital) release date in November. Well gang, we're about halfway into September and we have yet to have a week of must-have titles. (Which is fine by me because October is stacked with awesome stuff this year!) This week is admittedly pretty lean on new releases, but there are a few things you may want to add to your collections.
Along with a few anime titles, and a bunch of direct-to-DVD junk, this week boasts a nice 35th Anniversary 4K release of John Carpenter's CHRISTINE, the home video release of the poorly received SUPERFLY remake, and Scream Factory's latest additions, namely BRAIN DEAD and THE SEVENTH SIGN.
I should also note that there are a bunch of Region B titles out from companies like Black House Films, Arrow Video, 88 Films, and Umbrella Entertainment as well, including: DRACULA'S DAUGHTER, HEATHERS, FRIGHTMARE, and CARGO. Just make sure that before you buy any of those, you have a REGION FREE BLU-RAY PLAYER. (Which I highly encourage!)

NEW FROM SCREAM FACTORY: A TALE OF TWO BILLS AND DEMI MOORE'S JUDGMENT DAY!
I hope you Vault Dwellers won't think less of me because I've never seen either of these new Scream Factory Blu-ray titles. But rest assured that I plan on remedying that! In particular, I'm very curious about BRAIN DEAD because Bill Paxton's presence in a movie always raises the bar! Plus, I distinctly remember the VHS cover for that particular at my local mom & pop video store from back in the day!
BRAIN DEAD (1990)
Synopsis: The Eunice Corporation is on the ground floor of an exciting growth industry, utilizing a memory re-sculpting technique pioneered by eccentric neurosurgeon Rex Martin (Bill Pullman, LAKE PLACID, THE SERPENT AND THE RAINBOW). It envisions nationwide clinics where anyone can lose the hang-ups of an unhappy childhood, a failed romance or a botched career. At Eunice's "New You" outlets, a simple operation will give customers peace of mind. Or it might leave them brain dead.
But when Martin refuses to cooperate with Eunice, he soon finds himself plunged into a surreal existence that intertwines dreams and reality. Has Martin slipped over the edge into madness? Or have corporate profit mongers given him a push, making him the guinea pig in his own experiment? To know the answer is to know true terror!

THE SEVENTH SIGN (1988)
Synopsis: The time is coming. The seals are breaking. Judgment is at hand. As the signs of the apocalypse come to pass, only one woman can stop the impending supernatural doom in this taut and riveting thriller.
Demi Moore stars as Abby Quinn, a young woman who discovers that she and her unborn child play a terrifying part in the chain of events destined to end the world. Already troubled with a difficult pregnancy, Abby grows more distraught once she and her husband (Michael Biehn, THE TERMINATOR) rent their studio apartment to David (Jürgen Prochnow, IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS), an enigmatic drifter.
As Abby becomes ensnared in a series of otherworldly experiences, it becomes apparent that David is carrying out the mythical prophecies of Judgment Day ... and that she has been chosen as the instrument of the Seventh Sign. But can Abby — or anyone — stand between the wrath of God and the future of humanity?
