STOCK YOUR VAULT: New Blu-rays & 4K Discs for 11/19/24!

The B-Movie News Vault's STOCK YOUR VAULT Logo!

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

Welcome! Welcome one and all to the first Stock Your Vault post since umm.... January?! Egads! Well in a (some would say a vain) attempt to get back into the swing of things, your friendly neighborhood Vault Master is here to share good tidings of new physical media releases on Blu-ray and 4K UHD! And this week is absolutely loaded with fantastic titles from all of your favorite boutique labels, so strap in and brace yourselves for pure awesome!

While there are a lot of Blu-ray and 4K titles to be excited for, I'd have to say the two most highly-anticipated ones are Toho's GODZILLA: MINUS ONE and Universal's 40th Anniversary release of THE TERMINATOR! The Oscar-winning MINUS ONE offers up a gorgeous 4K presentation with various audio tracks (including a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD English dub!), featurettes, and trailers. Even upon release day, I honestly still don't know if the bonus features have English subtitles - I guess I'll find out when I pick up a copy in the near future! Also, as of my posting this, it would seem that the Limited Edition Steelbook is completely OOP, which absolutely sucks, because it's the only way to get a copy of GODZILLA: MINUS ONE/MINUS COLOR.

THE TERMINATOR comes fully restored in 4K with a DolbyVision/HDR presentation of the film, plus a Dolby Atmos audio track option! The disc includes a handful of featurettes ported over from previous releases, as well as seven deleted scenes! I've read a few reviews about this disc and it is getting rave reviews for the quality of the restoration, so I do believe it is time for me to upgrade from my old Blu-ray disc!

Other releases worth noting are: Warner Bros.' 4K of BLAZING SADDLES, Shout! Studios' fantastically expensive 4K collector's sets of THE DARK CRYSTAL and LABYRINTH, Kino Lorber's 1,000 CONVICTS AND A WOMAN (which is #20 in their Kino Cult line), Universal's SPEAK NO EVIL (which is apparently a worthy remake of the bleak original), and Arrow Video's limited editions of TOMIE (which is part of their recent love affair with J-Horror films), and A SIMPLE PLAN.

There's dozens of other new discs out today so be sure to scroll on down to see the full list fellow collectors!

GODZILLA: MINUS ONE Stomps Its Way to Blu-ray & 4K UHD on November 19th!

COMPLETE YOUR GODZILLA MOVIE COLLECTION THIS NOVEMBER WITH TAKASHI YAMAZAKI'S OSCAR-WINNING KAIJU FILM!

I've been a huge Godzilla fan since I was a kid, and I can't begin to tell you how amazed I am at the longevity that this frequent harbinger of doom/defender of Earth has enjoyed. It's hard to believe that Godzilla has been a global pop-culture icon for seventy years!!!

And though I am fairly content with the increasingly fun and crazy "Monsterverse" movies currently being cranked out by Legendary Films, you have no idea how thrilled I was to see GODZILLA: MINUS ONE on the big screen last year. I mean hell, just seeing that Toho logo come up on the screen was enough to elicit a feeling of pure joy from yours truly!

I loved MINUS ONE enough to warrant a second theatrical viewing on the big screen, and watched in awe as it raked in a shocking amount of money at the global box office, was nominated for, and won, an Academy Award, and broke records on various streaming platforms, including NetFlix! And now, after a very long wait, GODZILLA: MINUS ONE is arriving on all physical media formats this November, which is great news to fans who failed to snag the (now OOP) Limited Edition 4K/Blu-ray set that Godzilla.com's Store offered up earlier this year!

Synopsis: In the waning days of World War II, Shikishima (Ryunosuke Kamiki), a surviving Kamikaze pilot, and a squad of plane engineers stationed on Odo Island, are attacked by a gargantuan monster. Years later, Shikishima teams up with a large group of military veterans to finally take down the (now nuclear-powered) monster known as Godzilla.

So I've got good news and bad news about these upcoming physical media releases Vault Dwellers. First the good news: Both the Blu-ray and 4K editions of GODZILLA: MINUS ONE seem to be identical to their Japanese counterparts (though I still have no idea if the bonus features will contain English subtitles), and as an added bonus, it appears that there is indeed an English audio dub of the film! The bad news is that if you really want to own a copy of GODZILLA: MINUS ONE/MINUS COLOR, you'll need to snag the 3-Disc Limited Edition Steelbook, which as of my posting this seems to be sold out everywhere! (What?! NOOOOOOO!)

The street date for GODZILLA: MINUS ONE is (tentatively) November 19th - the Blu-ray should cost about $25, the 4K should be approximately $30 - $35, and the steelbook should price around $30 - $50! You can order the standard edition Blu-ray from AMAZON or BULL MOOSE, and the standard 2-Disc 4K UHD from AMAZON, BULL MOOSE, or DIABOLIK DVD. As for the coveted 3-Disc Limited Edition Steelbook, it is listed as sold out at Amazon, Wal-Mart, Target, Deep Discount, Movies Unlimited, and Gruv. So unless Toho decides to do another run, your only choice is to overpay one of the many scalpers over at eBay.

This June, Get a Double-Dose of Classic Toho Sci-Fi on Blu-ray!

Cover art for Mill Creek's Toho Double Feature of THE H-MAN & BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE!
MILL CREEK ENTERTAINMENT BRINGS ISHIRO HONDA'S "THE H-MAN" AND "BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE" TO BLU-RAY IN A MUST-OWN DOUBLE FEATURE!

Having had a lot of success with their releases of MOTHRA and the seemingly endless ULTRAMAN series, Mill Creek is bringing two more Toho classics to Blu-ray! While BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE has been previously released to Blu-ray disc by Sony, THE H-MAN is making its debut on the format and comes with both the U.S. and Japanese cuts of the film! If you're a fan of Golden Age Japanese sci-fi cinema, you will definitely want to pick this 2-disc set up on June 9th!

Synopses: Travel back to the days before CGI, when special effects were real and the results were spectacular! Director IshirĂ´ Honda and special effects wizard Eiji Tsuburaya bring these wildly colorful kaiju eiga (monster movies) to life in this high-definition double feature presentation!

THE H-MAN (1958) - Brought on by hydrogen bomb fallout, H-Man is a slimy green monster that dissolves human tissue and anything else in its path on contact. Scientists must figure out how to stop this creation!

BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE (1958) - The nations of the Earth unite in a common cause to fight off an invader from outer space, reflecting director Ishiro Honda's favorite theme of international cooperation!

Disc Specs:
DISC 1: THE H-MAN
Not Rated | Color | 79 minutes | Region A
Video - 1080p Widescreen (2.35:1)
Audio - English & Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0

DISC 2: BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE

Not Rated | Color | 90 minutes | Region A
Video - 1080p Widescreen (2.35:1)
Audio - English & Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0

Extras:
  • TBA
I already own the Sony Pictures Blu of BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE, but I'm highly considering picking up this double feature just for THE H-MAN! I could not find any info about special features (so I may be updating this post as the street date nears), but I'm hoping we at least get the commentary track for BATTLE ported over from the Sony disc, and maybe trailers for each movie. Even if this double-feature is a bare bones release, the $12 - $15 sale price makes this release a heck of a bargain!

If you enjoy Japanese tokusatsu flicks, then you'll definitely want to grab a copy of THE H-MAN & BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE! Get this double-feature set on June 9th from AMAZON, BULL MOOSE, or DIABOLIK DVD!

Housed in a metal case and featuring some cool extras, this is definitely a must-own title for all you kaiju fans out there!

The overzealous expedition leader kidnaps the Shobijin to exhibit in a Tokyo stage show but soon they summon their protector, hatching the egg and releasing a giant caterpillar. When Mothra arrives in Japan and finally transforms into the ultimate beast, impervious to modern weapons, the nation and its people face their destruction.

Rifftrax Live battles Toho's MOTHRA tomorrow night!

Fans of classic Japanese monster flicks and movie riffing rejoice, for Rifftrax Live battles MOTHRA tomorrow night in theaters across the United States! (With a rebroadcast on August 23rd!) Michael J. Nelson, Bill Corbett, and Kevin Murphy will team up to take jabs at this classic kaiju flick, which features Toho's other famous mon-star!

For the uninitiated, MOTHRA is a 1961 Japanese epic, where explorers investigate the nuked remains of Infant Island. They are startled to find that the island is actually still inhabited, and filled with numerous mutations caused by radiation poisoning. Also, the islanders, led by two tiny priestesses, worship a giant insect god named Mothra!

But when the tiny "Shobijin" are kidnapped and taken back to Japan to be exploited, Mothra hatches from an egg and makes a beeline for the Land of the Rising Sun. The larvae eventually morphs into her final insect form, and destroys everything in her path as she seeks out the "twin fairies." Will the Japanese Self-Defense Forces be able to stop MOTHRA?!

This Rifftrax Live show begins at 8:00 PM EST and will be streaming live to various movie theaters. To find out if it's playing near you, and to snag yourself tickets, CLICK HERE!

Sadly I'm missing out on this show (it sucks that they're always broadcast on Thursdays!), so if any of you Vault Dwellers attend, please let me know how it was. And most definitely share your favorite moments from the film (and your favorite jokes) in the comments below!
