Lots of new trailers have popped up on the web recently, for films both great and small. So let's not waste any time and get right into them, shall we?

I was looking forward to this movie LAST YEAR, but apparently there was a falling out between the financiers and the publicity/advertising firm that was supposed to promote the film. Shucks, and here I thought it was because the film was "too extreme," much like the movie it is an homage to, namely CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST! (A film I still haven't watched yet, even though I own the impressive Grindhouse Releasing blu-ray.)

Scope out the trailer for Roth's cannibal epic, where some good-natured activists crash-land in the rainforest and meet the local tribe... FOR DINNER!

The trailer doesn't give too much away, other than you will be shocked by this film. I'll believe it when I see it Eli Roth!

Just got a press release about this one the other day. The story follows a private investigator that loses his son and eventually returns to his job. However, once back to work, he's stuck with the task of observing a woman from the window of a creepy abandoned apartment building. Soon strange things begin to happen around him, making you wonder if he is going mad, or dealing with dark forces living within the building itself.

Observe the trailer below!

The film is making it's premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival next month! I may just check it out after it finally gets distribution here in North America later this year.

Finally, let's look at a big mainstream release trailer for Marvel's ANT-MAN. This is, thus far, the only Marvel feature film that I'm not really looking forward to. I just can't get excited for it... or at least, I couldn't get excited for it. The latest international trailer takes things up a notch, with more new footage that we haven't seen yet.

The film follows former criminal Scott Lang as he turns his life around and becomes the size-shifting hero named ANT-MAN! I think the movie (which is already getting rave reviews) will probably be a great addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but a lot of wind was taken out of the sails when Edgar Wright (director of "The Cornetto Trilogy") left the project.

Check out the trailer; ignore the Japanese narration!

That's it for today! Check back soon for more trailers, posters, press releases, and DVD/Blu-ray release news!

Scream Factory's TOOLBOX MURDERS 2 final Blu-ray specs & details!

I've totally missed out on both the original THE TOOLBOX MURDERS, and it's 2004 remake, but it looks like I better pull my head out of the sand and watch those soon! Let's take a closer look at this followup to the Tobe Hooper remake.

Film Synopsis: Picking up directly after the shocking events of the previous movie, TOOLBOX MURDERS 2 ratchets up the terror as it follows one of Hollywood’s most twisted killers. Resurfacing in the darkest corners of the L.A. underworld with a serious axe to grind, the killer hammers out a plan to put the screws to a new victim!

Said victim is kidnapped, held captive and subjected to witness the torture and murder of numerous others. It is by her will, strength, and faith that she must survive the ordeal. Her escape seems hopeless and only worsens when outside supernatural forces become more difficult to contend with than her captor...

TOOLBOX MURDERS 2 (a.k.a. COFFIN BABY) was directed by legendary special effects artist, producer, and filmmaker Dean C. Jones (DARK AWAKENING, X-MEN: FIRST CLASS), and stars Chauntal Lewis (SEANCE), Oscar® nominee Bruce Dern (NEBRASKA), Brian Krause (STEPHEN KING'S SLEEPWALKERS), Clifton Powell (RAY), Chris Doyle (THE TOOLBOX MURDERS), and Ethan Phillips (STAR TREK: VOYAGER).

Blu-Ray Specs:
Color | 95 minutes | Not Rated | Region A
Video - 1080p Widescreen (1.78:1)
Audio - DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 & 2.0

Special Features:
  • Theatrical trailer.

Other special features may be announced for this release, but at the moment, this seems to be a pretty bare bones disc. TOOLBOX MURDERS 2 will be available on August 4th, and can be purchased at AMAZON.COM or directly from SCREAM FACTORY!

Haven't seen the previous TOOLBOX MURDER films? Then be sure to grab the 1978 original, and the 2004 remake, before you see the sequel!

Scream Factory acquires North American rights for James Roday's Horror/Comedy, GRAVY!

Just got word today that Scream Factory has added James (Shawn Spencer in PSYCH) Roday's GRAVY to their upcoming slate of releases! Honestly, this is the first time I'm hearing about this film, but it sounds like it'll be a blast, and a perfect fit for Scream's impressive catalog of Horror titles.

Synopsis: An irreverent, daring and wickedly-fun horror comedy, GRAVY walks a perfect line of tension and release, laughs and scares. It’s Halloween night. A trio of costumed misfits, with very special dietary requirements, seizes a Mexican cantina and forces the staff to engage in a late night of gluttony. The only caveat is what’s on the menu… and who will survive til morning!

From James Roday: "I dreamt of cannibals, pop culture and Mexican food. That dream came true in the hands of a stellar ensemble cast and precision blood splatter. GRAVY is a very dark comedy for grown ups who also like a little gore on the menu. We look forward to trick or treating genre fans with the film later this year..."

The film boasts makeup f/x by Gregory Nicotero and Howard Berger, and has a rather impressive cast which includes: Michael Weston (STATE OF PLAY, GARDEN STATE), Jimmi Simpson (HOUSE OF CARDS, WHITE HOUSE DOWN), Sutton Foster (YOUNGER, BUNHEADS), Lily Cole (SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN), Molly Ephraim (LAST MAN STANDING), Paul Rodriguez (ALI), with Gabourey Sidibe (EMPIRE, PRECIOUS) and Sarah Silverman (WRECK-IT RALPH).

No word on an actual street date yet, but if Roday's comment is any indication, this looks like it'll be an October release from our friends at Scream Factory! Stay tuned for more news and updates about this upcoming horror/comedy title!

Grey Matter Art's new CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER prints now available!

When I was at Hudson Horror Show back on June 13th (read about that HERE) I came across the table for the owner of Grey Matter Art, and I was wowed by their gorgeous poster designs. Well, the time, as you can see, has arrived!

On June 17th, Grey Matter Art released the two beautiful (and officially licensed) CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER posters pictured above. Scream Factory's THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS (COLLECTOR'S EDITION) - Final Blu-ray Specs & Extras!

THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS was one of the more bizarre movies I watched during my formative years, and I didn't quite care for it. Then I gave it a second chance many years later and loved the hell out of it!

Based loosely upon an actual news story of a Santa Monica couple that abused their children and kept them locked away in their home, Craven's film plays like a modern day urban fairytale.

Film Synopsis: A kid nick-named "Fool" (Brandon Quintin Adams) gets roped into robbing the home of a pair of cold-hearted landlords that are planning to boot his family out onto the street. But things are not as they seem, as he (and the two other burglars, led by Ving Rhames) soon discover that the (possibly incestuous) brother-sister duo (Everett McGill and Wendy Robie) are insane, and have dozens of children caged within the bowels of the house.

Trapped, with no hope of contacting help, "Fool" must rely on his own street smarts to outwit the two murderous psychopaths, and free the trapped "people under the stairs!"

Blu-ray Specs:
Color | 103 minutes | Rated R | Region A
Video - 1080p Widescreen (1.85:1)
Audio - Not entirely sure. I'm gonna guess that it's in Dolby 2.0 HD Master Audio.

Special Features:
  • NEW Audio Commentary with writer/director Wes Craven!
  • NEW Audio Commentary with actors Brandon Adams, A.J. Langer, Sean Whalen, and Yan Birch!
  • House Mother – NEW interview with actress Wendy Robie.
  • What Lies Beneath – NEW interviews with special make-up effects Artists Greg Nicotero, Howard Berger and Robert Kurtzman!
  • House of Horrors – NEW interview with director of photography Sandi Sissel!
  • Settling The Score – NEW interview with composer Don Peake!
  • Behind-The-Scenes Footage
  • Vintage “Making of” Featurette
  • Theatrical Trailer
  • TV Spots
  • Still Galleries (Original Storyboards and Official Stills)
Holy cow! This is a HUGE step up from the previous Blu-ray release from Universal Home Video, which was a bare bones affair. Even if nothing major has been done with the Audio & Video (which weren't all that bad to begin with), the new cover art (which as always, is reversible!) and plethora of extras, makes this title a "must own" in my book!

THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS (COLLECTOR'S EDITION), hits stores and e-tailers on Tuesday, August 11th! Order your copy now from AMAZON.COM, DIABOLIK DVD, or directly from SCREAM FACTORY

If you order from the Scream/Shout! Factory website, you will get the disc THREE WEEKS EARLY, and packaged with an 18x24 poster (while supplies last) that features the disc's newly commissioned artwork!

Thanks for giving another one of my favorites the royal treatment Scream Factory! Keep up the awesome work!

SNOW GIRL AND THE DARK CRYSTAL coming to DVD & Blu-ray on August 4th!

I don't know about you, but I'm a total sucker for Asian fantasy and adventure flicks! And seeing as how this one is a love story, I could probably even get my significant other to sit down and watch it with me!

Synopsis: Academy Award winning cinematographer Peter Pau (CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON) makes his third bow as a director (alongside co-director Zhao Tianyu) with the romantic fantasy adventure epic SNOW GIRL AND THE DARK CRYSTAL, debuting on Digital HD, Blu-ray, and DVD from Well Go USA Entertainment.

Shot in scenic locations in Mainland China, and featuring “a story filled with its fair share of demons, monsters, magic and mystics, coupled with romance, danger and spectacular action,” (Film Combat Syndicate), SNOW GIRL AND THE DARK CRYSTAL depicts legendary hero Zhong Kui, a fabled warrior with mysterious powers, who is forced to conquer the realms of Heaven and Hell to save his people and the woman he loves.

The film stars Chen Kun (YOUNG DETECTIVE DEE: RISE OF THE SEA DRAGON, FLYING SWORDS OF DRAGON GATE) as the mythic demon hunter, and Li Bingbing (TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION, DETECTIVE DEE: MYSTERY OF THE PHANTOM FLAME) as the alluring snow demon with whom he falls in love.

Check out the trailer now!

Bonus content on this release will include the film's original theatrical trailer, and a handful of making-of featurettes about the film's music and special effects. SNOW GIRL AND THE DARK CRYSTAL is available on August 4th in all formats. Order your copy now from Amazon.com on DVD or BLU-RAY!

DEAD WOMAN'S HOLLOW debuts on DVD and VOD on June 23rd!

Utilizing actual accounts of an attempted double-homicide on the Appalachian Trail, DEAD WOMAN'S HOLLOW looks to become the Mid-Atlantic's version of THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN.

Synopsis: Based on the shocking hate crime that ripped through the quiet of Appalachia in 1988, DEAD WOMAN'S HOLLOW follows two attractive young coeds who have set off for a camping trip in the Pennsylvania woods to get away from it all.

After a rifle-toting mountain man discovers they are a couple, the women become his prey: Hunted, shot and left for dead. The local sheriff begins to connect their frightened testimony with unsolved disappearances and murders on the trail. Can he act in time to stop more killings?

Director Libby McDermott took home awards for Best Horror Feature and Best Make Up at the World Music and Independent Film Festival, and Charles Dawson was named Best Male Lead at the WC Horror Film Festival for his turn as small town law enforcement trying to hunt down a murderer in the woods he calls home.

Once again, DEAD WOMAN'S HOLLOW will be available on DVD and VOD on Tuesday, June 23rd! You can order yourself a copy right now at AMAZON.COM!

BALLET OF BLOOD pirouettes onto DVD & VHS this December!

Jared Masters is a young indie filmmaker who has been cranking out feature films and shorts since 2009. His latest is a dark comedy/horror film about a psychopathic ballet dancer. Could be fun!

Synopsis: Her mind was a forest of blood. She craved insanity. The motion picture that has been regarded as the most highly anticipated underground horror film of 2015 has poked its head out of the dark cinematic sea to release its first official trailer.

BALLET OF BLOOD is a film about deadly ballerinas. Its creator, Jared Masters, has always loved the ballet, and really got to express that in this picture. The million-dollar mermaid Sydney Raye stars as Nisa, the sick and sexy psychopath that sprays bullets and seduces her dance instructor, without even trying. Will she get away with her plans of murdering everybody at the company? Ballet of Blood, a psychedelic deluge in terror.

Written and directed by Masters, the film co-stars Jessica Knopf as the partner in crime. Laura Amelia as the dance teacher, Delphine, and Julia Faye West as company co-owner, Wren Heyward. The film also features Mindy Robinson as the prima ballerina, Sylvie, with Walter Hochbrueckner, Vera R. Taylor, Rubi Garcia, Marla Martinez, Jacqueline Marie Alberto, Dawna Lee Heising, Dallas Chandler, Krystall Schott, Georgie Borchardt, Sky Patterson, Christopher Arias, Kimberly Cohen, Marylyn Brooks, Tristan Alexander and Shelise Hufstetler.

Produced by Julia Faye West, Sydney Raye, Vera R. Taylor, Walter Hochbrueckner, John Gonatos, Mikko Tervonen, Michael Anthony and Bouvier. Production design by Mystic Marlow. Art Direction by Ryan Henneman. Sound by Jean-Paul Inesta, stills by Mark Rakocy, script supervision by Jonathan Weichsel, make-up by Maggie A. Ellis, assistant producer: publicity division Seth Metoyer, script editing by H. Raven Rose. Casting associates Mikhail Gabriel Curri and Sunny Vachher.

BALLET OF BLOOD recently won the Audience Choice Award at the RIP International Horror Film Festival, and is slated for a DVD (and VHS!) release on December 5th! A VOD release is planned for sometime in March 2016!

Scope out the trailer for BALLET OF BLOOD!

There's some hilarious dialogue in this trailer! Here's a few choice quotes that made me chuckle:

Girl 1: "I'm only six pounds heavier than last season."
Girl 2: "Shame... weighs about six pounds."

"Bones are beautiful. Curves are not!"

BALLET OF BLOOD is scheduled for release this October (just in time for Halloween)! I'll be sharing more details and info about the film as I get them! For more input, visit the film's official webpage.

Underbelly releases promo trailer for GEEKS, GIRLS, GUNS, & GHOULS!

Last week, Underbelly unveiled two cool proof-of-concept trailers for VELVET ROPE. This week, they show off their promo trailer for their next possible comic-to-film adaptation: GEEKS, GIRLS, GUNS, & GHOULS!

Initially they planned on making a haunted video game tale based around the myth that Atari buried millions of unsold game cartridges in New Mexico (mainly copies of E.T.). However, they were beaten to the punch by James Rolfe, with his feature-length THE ANGRY VIDEO GAME NERD: THE MOVIE.

Going back to the drawing board, Newt Wallen and company decided to retool things and made the film about a haunted POLYBIUS machine. Wait, a what?

POLYBIUS is, for all intents and purposes, an urban legend. Supposedly several arcade cabinets of this mysterious game vanished soon after its 1981 release, for supposedly causing amnesia, insomnia, stress, and night terrors in those who bravely played it. (Read more about Polybius HERE.).

The new concept for the trailer (and eventually a feature film?) is that the Polybius machine is a gateway to another dimension full of evil spirits and monsters. Naturally some video game enthusiasts/historians decide to plug it in and give it a whirl, thus unleashing the evil within. Will the GEEKS & GIRLS with GUNS survive an attack by THE GHOULS? Well, I for one would love to find out!

Scope out the trailer for yourself below, and share it around. If enough interest is generated, then perhaps Arcana Comics will feel the urge to produce the film! (Along with VELVET ROPE as well!)

If you like what you saw, let the creators know, and help support independent cinema!

Principal photography completed for indie horror film entitled "WTF!"

"WTF!" Strands Seven Friends in a Cabin in the Woods! Principal Photography Now Completed!

JULY 21, 2015 - UPDATE: Principal photography has been completed for "WTF!"

Some notes from director Peter Herro: "It took me a very long time to put together the cast and crew. I spent three months in auditions making sure the actors fit the parts, were up to the challenge, and had the same passion as I did. Equally as important was interviewing crew members to get the right people for the jobs. I am so happy and thrilled for the team I have working on this project. Everyone put in 100% and gave it their all.

It was a very intense 12 day run. Some days we managed to shoot a dozen pages! It definitely is a huge creative test to pull together so much detail in such a short amount of time. With locations all over LA and very long days days it became something that could only be done out of passion. I am thrilled to have put together an entire movie in a twelve day span. This would not be possible without the amazing cast and crew that put there blood and sweat into the project. (no pun intended).

The most challenging obstacle for this shoot were the emotional states the actors had to be in. It goes from a very fun MEAN GIRLS charade into a very serious SCREAM survival flick. This was challenging for everyone. They would go from having fun and throwing out one-liners to a more serious physiological thriller state of mind. In the end all of the actors pulled off amazing performances and really brought the movie to life!"

Currently there is no release date set for Peter Herro's new horror film, but we can all expect to see it pop up sometime in 2016! Expect more updates on this project as it gets closer to completion!

JUNE 10, 2015 - I just received a press release, letting me know that filming is about to begin for a new horror flick called "WTF!" I'm not quite sure what the tone of this movie will be (comedic? serious?), or what sub-genre of the horror genre it can be categorized as (I'm going with a slasher flick, maybe?), but I do at least know what it's all about.

Synopsis: Three years ago, twenty-two year old girl-next-door Rachel (Callie Ott) barely survived a brutal massacre that left her friends in pieces. Time has passed, and Rachel has moved on, but unfortunately history has a way of repeating itself.
Her close friends are spending spring break in a secluded house in the woods, and they have cordially invited her to join. Little does she realize that another bloodbath will be showing up as plus one. Once Rachel and her friends arrive at the cabin, the partying, sex, and terror begins.
From girls' only pillow fights, to debauchery in the bedroom, it's going to be a blast... until the stabbing, flesh melting, and castration starts. Seven friends will go into a secluded house for the best spring break of their lives, but only one will be alive to post about it on Instagram the next week, as Rachel's biggest fears become a reality once again. Will Rachel survive another bloody massacre?!
Cthulhu Crush Productions is excited to announce principal photography is set to begin on Peter Herro's "WTF!" June 15th around Los Angeles. Herro is directing from a script he co-wrote with Christopher Centanni and Adam Buchalter. Callie Ott (THE HORROR), Sarah Agor (HATCHET II, VH1's "SCREAM QUEENS"), Andrea Hunt, Ben Norris, Johnny James Fiore, Nick Reilly and Adam Foster will star.
This project sounds like it could have some promise. I sincerely hope that it's a straight-up slasher flick, because I am sick of zombies, home invaders, found footage films, and fake snuff films. It's time for a slasher film Renaissance dammit!

To keep up to date on all things "WTF!," be sure to follow the filmmakers on Twitter!

As more updates and details on "WTF!" become available, you can bet that I'll share them here! Good luck to Peter Herro and his cast & crew! Break a leg gang!

Hudson Horror Show 11 Event Schedule!

Saturday June 13th marks the triumphant return of the always awesome HUDSON HORROR SHOW. I've been attending this since their fourth show and haven't missed one since (unless you count their double feature of TOURIST TRAP and TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD at the Alamo Drafthouse)!

This time around, yours truly (who has previously inflicted INFRA-MAN and LADY TERMINATOR on the unsuspecting audience) will be sponsoring and introducing a very cool MYSTERY MOVIE to kick things off. All I can tell you is that it's a great 80s horror flick that grew on me over the years. It features a stellar cast, and was directed by an Academy Award Winner. (Sorry, but no more hints!)

Along with that, there will be four other amazing films, including MS.45, MADMAN, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST. 2: FREDDY'S REVENGE, and Steven Spielberg's JAWS. Tickets have been sold out for weeks, so sadly, many of you reading this will be missing out on the 35mm goodness. However, the vendors area will be open to the public, and you will also have a chance to meet Bill Diamond ("The Muppet Master"), as well as MADMAN producer Gary Sales, and actors Jimmy Steele (Richie), and Paul Ehlers (Madman Marz)! Oh and you can even catch a quick photo op with a mock-up of "Bruce" the Great White Shark's head!

For those of you who WILL be watching the day's five films, here's the....

  • 11:00 AM: Doors Open. Shop around, meet up with friends, and save your seats!
  • 12:30 PM - 12:45 PM: The Introduction and sacred rules of the fest.
  • 12:45 PM - 2:30 PM: Trailers + THE MYSTERY MOVIE!
  • 2:30 PM - 2:45 PM: Break #1.
  • 2:45 PM - 4:30 PM: Trailers + A NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST. 2!
  • 4:30 PM - 4:45 PM: Break #2.
  • 4:45 PM - 6:30 PM: Trailers + MS.45!

  • 8:45 PM - 9:15 PM: MADMAN Q&A!

If you're new to the world of Hudson Horror Show (or just film fests in general), then be sure to read my SURVIVAL GUIDE before attending. It could just save your life!

HUDSON HORROR SHOW 11 is going to epic, and I cannot to see my favorite movie of all time (JAWS, natch) on the big screen, in 35mm! To me, everything else is just buckets of delicious, diabetes-causing icing on the proverbial cake.

So hopefully I'll see YOU at the theater this coming Saturday! I've got some great stuff to give away so brush up on your trivia, and prepare for one of the greatest days of your cinema-loving lives!

SHARKNADO 3: OH HELL NO! won't be premiering until July 22nd (on SyFy),  so why not check out this other ridiculous killer shark flick in the meantime?

Synopsis: "Bikini Snow Day" is the busiest day of the year at Mammoth Mountain, and the resort is packed with wild co-eds looking for a good time. When an unexpected avalanche rumbles down the mountain, it awakens ancient spirits in the form of massive sharks with a taste for human flesh.

As the body count begins to pile up, the local sheriff must form an unlikely alliance with a motley crew of locals and tourists in order to kill off the terrifying creatures before it’s too late.

Directed by Scott Wheeler, known for his visual effects work on multiple creature/disaster mash-ups, including SAND SHARKS and MEGA SHARK VS. WOLFCOP 2 celebrity crowdfunding campaign is in full swing!

Around this time last year, I was sent a screener for Lowell Dean's horror/comedy WOLFCOP. Needless to say, I really got a kick out of it. (Read my review HERE.) Imagine my surprise today, when I discovered that a sequel is definitely in the works, and that the crew is pulling together funds to make WOLFCOP 2 bigger and better than the original film! They apparently already have the money to shoot the new Wolfcop adventure, but they really want to add a few big names to the cast.

To do this, they currently have a crowdfunding campaign going to raise funds to get a well known celebrity or two (or three!) to appear in this film, which promises to have more action, gore, and raunchy humor.

Check out this video message from director Lowell Dean for more info:

While I am all for this, I do think it's a tad unnecessary. The first film was a hit, not because of any star power, but because it was a fun concept. People wanted to see it. That being said, having a few big names attached isn't an unwelcome idea. Just look at KUNG FURY, which featured a cameo (and music video) by David Hasslehoff!

So if you're in a giving mood, head on over to the WOLFCOP 2 Indiegogo campaign page, make your donation, and choose "3 Heroes" that you'd want to see in the film. You can choose an actor, athlete, comedian, artist, musician, friend, family member, etc.!

Regardless of whether or not they raise the funds, WOLFCOP 2 is a go, and I can't wait to see what insane direction this new indie franchise goes in!

Stay tuned for more WOLFCOP 2 news & updates as I get them!

Underbelly debuts two proof-of-concept VELVET ROPE trailers!

Underbelly has returned with new episodes on YouTube! Their most recent video showcases two proof-of-concept trailers for a feature-film adaptation of Arcana Comics' popular VELVET ROPE.

VELVET ROPE is a 90-page horror anthology, with a variety of tales, including "Baker's Dozen," "Club Vampire," "Daddy's Little Girl," as well as an all-new "Eve: Vampire Diva" short. You can order yourself a copy HERE at Amazon.com!

The video you are about to watch below contains two vastly different trailers, with different actresses portraying the ghostly usher of a theater, and both are pretty damned cool. Each trailer was shot in (mostly) one day, within a limited time frame and next to no budget. The final results are surprisingly awesome!

Also keep an eye out for TV Horror Host Mr. Lobo!

Pretty bad-ass right? I totally dig the EVIL DEAD II-style "filmstrip attack" in the second trailer, and I think a sexy undead usher is a great antagonist for any horror flick! There's a distinct lack of (good) Horror anthologies these days, so I'm totally down for a VELVET ROPE movie. If you're on board, let Arcana Comics know, and sent them a message or twenty on Facebook!

New trailer for upcoming Post-Apocalyptic Drama, Z FOR ZACHARIAH! Coming to select theaters on August 28th!

There's been several post-apocalyptic films this year that are worth a look (e.g. MAD MAX: FURY ROAD if you want fun & excitement; THESE FINAL HOURS if you want depression), and it seems like you can add one more to the list: Z FOR ZACHARIAH.

Synopsis: In the not-distant future, a disastrous radioactive event has obliterated most of civilization. Yet somewhere deep in the American South is a valley that remains untouched; evidence of a micro-climate or some other miracle.

A young farm girl, Ann Burden (Margot Robbie), is grittily surviving on her own in this valley, fearing she may actually be the proverbial last woman on earth. Then, she discovers the most astonishing sight of her life: another human being.

John Loomis (Chiwetel Ejiofor) arrives in the valley a cipher; a distraught scientist nearly driven mad by radiation exposure and his desperate search for others. He and Ann share little in common beyond survival. Even so, as Ann nurses Loomis back to health, they build a fragile, imperative strand of trust across the gulf between them - finding solace amidst the eerie reality of their new lives.

With all the time in the world, they even dare to imagine forging a future - for themselves, for humanity. But when a stranger (Chris Pine) enters the valley, their precarious bond begins to unravel. Now, all three must grapple with an unstable situation - one of secrets, suspicions and mortal threats.

Check out the trailer for this upcoming tale of a post-apocalyptic love triangle!

Looks like these two dudes are going to compete (and try to kill each other) in order to knock boots with, what is quite possibly, the last woman on Earth. Z FOR ZACHARIAH will get a limited theatrical release on August 28th, followed by a debut on DVD & Blu-ray. And hey, it's an adaptation of a novel, so you can buy a copy of the book if you're curious!

Check out Alex DiVincenzo's hilarious short, THE HORRORS OF AUTOCORRECT!

What happens when an old school slasher faces off with a tech-savvy teen? Find out in
"brb. There's some1 @ the door. lolz"

This awesome horror short was written and directed by Alex DiVincenzo, and is totally free to watch on Eli Roth's CRYPT-TV! Starring Nick Principe (LAID TO REST, HATCHET II) and Jaquelyn Fabian, this hysterical homage to SCREAM features a serial killer who can't seem to master death threats via text message. It's clever, well done, and even takes a funny pot-shot at A NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST. 2: FREDDY'S REVENGE!

For some reason this short was removed from YouTube, but you can still watch the trailer for THE HORRORS OF AUTOCORRECT below! (Note: You can watch it HERE!)

If you dug that, then keep an eye out for Alex DiVincenzo's next short film, TROUSER SNAKE, a throwback to 1950s b-cinema!

THE DEAD NEXT DOOR was one of those "lost" films I managed to procure in the early days of the internet, and I've proudly kept my DVD of it displayed in my gigantic film collection. But it is definitely time for an upgrade, and luckily, that's exactly what is happening!

Tempe Video recently announced the launch of an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to support preorders for a 3-Disc “Ultimate Edition” Blu-ray of the 1990 underground zombie favorite THE DEAD NEXT DOOR, the boutique cult label’s first HD release.

30 years ago this fall, writer/director J.R. Bookwalter (OZONE, WITCHOUSE II: BLOOD COVEN) embarked on THE DEAD NEXT DOOR, a gory, ambitious Super-8mm horror feature that pits an elite team of Zombie Squad soldiers against hoards of the undead and the secretive religious cult hell-bent on protecting them. The film would ultimately take four years to complete with the help of more than 1,500 Northeast Ohio residents portraying the multitudes of bloodthirsty zombies.

For this one-of-a-kind release, Tempe has assembled four unrated versions of the film, two of which have been created from a brand-new 2K restoration using the original film elements. To celebrate the film’s 25th release anniversary this fall, collectors and fans will now be able to enjoy the movie in 1080p HD in either 4:3 original aspect ratio or 16:9 cropped alongside the standard-definition masters used for previous VHS and DVD releases, together with all of the commentary tracks and extras from with those versions.
To pre-order your very own copy (hurry, because they are limited!), CLICK HERE! Not totally sold on throwing down money on this? Then let's take a closer look at what this 3-disc set has to offer.

Scream Factory's I, MADMAN: Final Blu-ray specs & extras!

I openly admit that I adore Tibor Takac's THE GATE (something I can't say about its sub-par sequel, or Takac's recent film SPIDERS); it's a great movie! (That also happens to deserve a blu-ray release!)

However, I am in the dark when it comes to I, MADMAN. I own the old MGM DVD, but never got around to watching it. It looks like that'll be changing soon with the impending release of Scream Factory's blu-ray!

Movie Synopsis: After a spine-tingling paperback catches the imagination of bookstore clerk Virginia, she seeks out the author's second book, I, Madman. But once she opens the cover, its eerie tale of obsessive love comes to life, catapulting a disfigured, scalpel-wielding killer from the world of fiction onto the streets of Hollywood with one demented goal: to win Virginia's love, one murder at a time!

Directed cult filmmaker Tibor Takacs (THE GATE), I, MADMAN stars Jenny Wright (NEAR DARK, THE LAWNMOWER MAN), Clayton Rohner (APRIL FOOL'S DAY, THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE III), and three-time Academy Award® winner Randall William Cook (DR. CALIGARI) as the mysterious and frightening Malcolm Brand.

Blu-ray Specs:
Color | 89 minutes | Rated R | Region A
Video - 1080p Widescreen (1.85:1)
Audio -  DTS-HD Master Audio Mono

Special Features:
  • Audio Commentary featuring director Tibor Takacs with actor & artistic supervisor Randall William Cook.
  • Ripped From The Pages – The Making of “I, Madman”, featuring interviews with director Tibor Takacs, actor & artistic supervisor Randall William Cook, screenwriter David Chaskin, actor Clayton Rohner, and actress Stephanie Hodge.
  • Behind The Scenes Footage with Audio Commentary by Randall William Cook.
  • Theatrical Trailer and Home Video Trailer.
  • Still Gallery with Optional Audio Commentary by Randall William Cook.
I, MADMAN is available wherever blu-ray discs are sold on July 21st! You can currently pre-order it at AMAZON.COM, DIABOLIK DVD, or directly from SCREAM FACTORY (which will net you the disc two weeks early)!

New DVDs & Blu-rays for 06/02/2015!

We're now in June of 2015: The Vault is about to celebrate it's fifteenth anniversary online, and your weekly dose of genre DVDs and Blu-rays has moved here, to The B-Movie News Vault! June is starting off pretty light with only a handful of notable releases. Scream Factory leads the way with an awesome new blu-ray disc of SCARECROWS. This blu-ray boasts two audio commentaries, a handful of cast & crew interviews, a trailer, storyboards, and a still gallery!

Also out is WOLFEN, in a bare bones release from the Warner Archive Collection. Though it lacks extras (save for a trailer), it is definitely a must own for yours truly. Other than those two discs, I'm personally not too excited about any of the other new releases this week, which include several budget-priced action film sets on DVD, the Wachowski's failed JUPITER ASCENDING, and MONSTERS: DARK CONTINENT, a sequel I totally forgot existed! For the full list of this week's meager genre offerings, scroll on down!
