VAULT VID-O-RAMA: ALIEN DAY EDITION!

It's April 26th, and you know what that means Vault Dwellers! IT'S ALIEN DAY ONCE AGAIN!

To celebrate, 20th Century Fox is apparently doing a lot of cool stuff today, including a Live Stream Event featuring interviews with ALIEN: COVENANT cast & crew members, plus exclusive footage from the film. There are also plans for some trivia challenges, a fan art contest, special screenings of ALIEN & PROMETHEUS (check Fandango for theaters and showtimes), and more! For more details, head over to PopCultureHQ!

In honor of this relatively new Xenomorph fan-centric "holiday," we here at The B-Movie News Vault present to you a series of ALIEN-themed YouTube videos that will have you waxing nostalgic, and get you pumped for the upcoming ALIEN: CONVENANT (in theaters May 19th)!

TOY COMMERCIALS
"A-LI-ENS! SEND IN THE MARINES!" Man I loved hearing that phrase emanating from my TV's speakers back in the '90s! When the run of toys based on ALIENS came out, I was only nine years old, and well on my way to being a Sci-Fi and Horror junkie. My parents fed my addiction, and that's why I (at one time) had a ton of ALIEN action figures!

Oddly enough, I didn't have any of the human characters, but did have a good mix of Xenomorphs, including the Queen (which sadly fell apart after falling off a shelf), the water-spitting "gorilla" alien, and spiky green "mantis" alien! Scope out these cool commercials and wish you had these toys!

And here's a classic commercial for the ALIEN toy made by Kenner way back in the day!

ALIEN PARODIES
Sure the hive-mind swarms of Xenomorphs are supposed to be terrifying, but that hasn't stopped various comedic minds from poking fun at the acid-blooded space "bugs." Here's a collection of hilarious ALIEN parodies (and musicals!) that should elicit a few good chuckles.

ALIEN RIP-OFFS (TRAILER REEL!)
The most enduring legacy of ALIEN, and its sequels, is the seemingly endless army of rip-offs it has generated. Below is a playlist I created, of numerous films that said "screw it, we're gonna copy ALIEN and ALIENS, but at a fraction of the price!"

BONUS VIDEO: TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES - THE CASE OF THE KILLER PIZZAS
The classic '80s Turtles cartoon series poked fun at numerous Horror and Sci-Fi characters during its ten season run. But in Season 2, Episode 6, the fearsome foursome tangled with monsters (hatched from meatball-like eggs) that look sort of familiar....

Trailer Round-Up: Hollywood Blockbuster Edition Volume 3!

It's been quite a while since I posted a new Trailer Round-Up, so it's high time I get things back on track! Hollywood has been churning out some quality entertainment this year, and it looks like this trend will continue right up until December! Take a few minutes to peep the four trailers below and get excited for films featuring gladiatorial duels (in space!), secret British spy organizations, wisecracking hitmen, and the next chapter of the ongoing STAR WARS saga!

TRAILER #1 - THE HITMAN'S BODYGUARD
Release Date: August 18, 2017

Ryan Reynolds is a skilled bodyguard that is tasked with protecting the world's most-wanted hitman, portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson. Explosions, violence, death, and hilarity ensue as they struggle to stay alive, and maybe even become friends! In a year crowded with great action films, it'll be curious to see if this particular one holds its own. Scope out the mothaf*ckin' trailer for THE HITMAN'S BODYGUARD below!

TRAILER #2 - KINGSMAN 2 - THE GOLDEN CIRCLE
Release Date: September 29th, 2017

This sequel to the surprise hit, KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE, has the surviving members of Britain's spy organization teaming up with the American "Statesmen" to battle an all new threat! The trailer doesn't give away too much, but I'm definitely excited to see it later this year!

TRAILER #3 - STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI
Release Date: December 17, 2017

The next chapter of the STAR WARS saga continues the story of the Rebellion's efforts to defeat The First Order and its Sith leader. If they use the typical trilogy template, this will be a very dark entry into the series. Luke Skywalker appears to train Rey in the ways of The Force (though he seems pretty intent on ending the Jedi gig altogether), Kylo Ren heads further down the path to the Dark Side, and lots of cool space battles ensue!

I was a pretty big fan of THE FORCE AWAKENS (though rather lukewarm towards ROGUE ONE), so I'm eager to see what happens next. I just hope it isn't a lazy retread of THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK.

TRAILER #4 - THOR: RAGNAROK
Release Date: November 3, 2017

The third entry into Marvel's THOR franchise looks to push further into the cosmic realm of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When the evil goddess Hela (hot, emo Cate Blanchett) destroys Mjolnir and casts Thor out of Asgard, our hero must find  a way back in order to prevent Ragnarok. (i.e. The Norse Apocalypse) Thor finds himself stranded on an alien world, where he's forced to battle in a gladiatorial arena for the entertainment of the planet's ruler. But as luck would have it, he also ends up running into an old friend....

That's all I got for you today Vault Dwellers! Make sure you mark all of these cool-looking flicks down on your calendars, and be sure to check back to the News Vault soon for more trailers, Blu-ray news, and more!

See Sonny Chiba as a crimefighting lycanthrope in WOLF GUY! Available on Special Edition Blu-ray on May 23rd!

ON MAY 23RD, SONNY CHIBA UNLEASHES HIS LYCANTHROPE RAGE IN STUNNING HD, COURTESY OF ARROW VIDEO!

I have known about the existence of WOLF GUY for some time now, but have been unable to procure a decent copy of it.... until now! Thanks to those magnificent folks at Arrow Video, WOLF GUY will finally be making its international debut! As a devout lover of all things Sonny Chiba, I simply must add this film to my personal collection!

Synopsis: Shinichi ‘Sonny’ Chiba is a martial arts ‘manimal’ in the ultra-70’s, 100% bizarre mixture of horror, action and sci-fi that is WOLF G UY, one of the rarest and most sought-after cult films produced by Japan’s Toei Studio. Based on a manga by Kazumasa Hirai (creator of 8 MAN), and never before released outside of Japan, it’s a genre film classic waiting to be discovered and a completely unclassifiable trip into phantasmagoric funk.

Chiba stars as Akira Inugami, the only survivor of a clan of ancient werewolves who relies on his supernatural powers to solve mysterious crimes. After a series of bloody killings perpetrated by an unseen force, Inugami uncovers a conspiracy involving a murdered cabaret singer, corrupt politicians, and a plot by the J-CIA to harvest his blood in order to steal his lycanthropic powers! At the same time, Inugami also discovers the truth behind his family heritage, and that he may not be the last of his kind.

Directed by B-movie genius Kazuhiko Yamaguchi (SISTER STREETFIGHTER, WANDERING GINZA BUTTERFLY, KARATE BEAR FIGHTER), WOLF GUY truly is one-of-a-kind, with Chiba in full effect as the part-man, part-wolf, all-karate action hero and a collection of familiar 1970’s Toei actors in support. Violence, action, nudity, real surgical footage, and a psychedelic musical score all work together to create an unforgettable trip to the heights of Japanese cinematic weirdness.

Disc Specs:
Rated R | Color | 86 minutes | Region A
Video - 1080p Widescreen (1.85:1)
Audio - Japanese (and English?) LPCM Mono

Extras:
  • Original uncompressed mono audio and new optional English subtitle translation!

Arrow Video awakens CALTIKI: THE IMMORTAL MONSTER on April 25th!

WHAT IS CALTIKI? FIND OUT FOR YOURSELF ON APRIL 25TH, WITH ARROW VIDEO'S SPECIAL EDITION RELEASE OF THIS SCI-FI CLASSIC!

It's been decades since I caught a late-night airing of CALTIKI on television. While I don't recall much about the film overall, I do have fond recollections about the movie's antagonist. A big thanks to Arrow Video for giving this film so much TLC. I can't wait to eventually add it to my collection!

Synopsis: A team of archaeologists led by Dr John Fielding (John Merivale, CIRCUS OF HORRORS) descends on the ruins of an ancient Mayan city to investigate the mysterious disappearance of its inhabitants. However, the luckless explorers get more than they bargained for when their investigation of a sacrificial pool awakens the monster that dwells beneath its waters – the fearsome and malevolent god Caltiki!

Though Riccardo Freda received sole directing credit, a significant portion of the film was in fact the work of Mario Bava, who also served as its cinematographer and was responsible its striking special effects. Drawing on a diverse array of influences, from THE QUATERMASS EXPERIMENT to the works of HP Lovecraft, CALTIKI: THE IMMORTAL MONSTER is a unique and unforgettable sci-fi chiller which showcases these two legendary filmmakers at their most inventive. Presented here for the first time in a newly restored high definition transfer, Caltiki shines – and terrifies! – like never before.

Disc Specs:
Not Rated | Black & White | 76 minutes | Region A
Video - 1080p Widescreen (1.66:1)
Audio - English and Italian LPCM Mono

Extras:
  • Brand new 2K restoration of the film from the original camera negative!
  • Original mono Italian and English soundtracks (lossless on the Blu-ray Disc), plus newly translated English subtitles for the Italian soundtrack!
  • NEW! Audio commentary by Tim Lucas, author of Mario Bava: All the Colors of the Dark.

Doc Terror Forever - JOIN US as We Celebrate James Harris' Legacy and Help Out His Family!

#DocTerrorForever
On April 13, 2017, my friend James Harris (proprietor of Doc Terror.com and HorrorSexy.com) lost his long battle against Ewing Sarcoma.

In the time I knew him, James was pure inspiration: A devout family man, he was passionate about all things Horror, and overflowing with positive energy. Jimmy's enthusiasm was infectious, and everyone (including Jimmy himself) truly thought that he was going to come out on top in the end.

But the tide suddenly turned a few weeks before his untimely demise, and now the world seems a bit darker without him. Jimmy was one of a kind - a diamond in the rough. He was the sort of person (and Horror fan) that the rest of us all aspire to be.

Since his passing, I've seen an enormous outpouring of love and sorrow on social media. It is absolutely incredible how many lives Jimmy has touched in his short time here on Earth, so it comes as no surprise that many are rallying to help his family and keep his memory alive!

Here is a list (thus far) of various folks in the Horror community that are doing special film screenings, art prints, t-shirts, and more to raise funds for the Harris clan. I'll try and keep it all updated and current as events are announced:
  • Hudson Horror Show's Chris Alo hosted a late-night Italian Horror double feature on Saturday May 6th at the Empire South Hills 8 in Poughkeepsie, NY. The event featured TWO mystery Italian Horror films in 35mm! Between ticket, merchandise, and raffle ticket sales, a total of $2,000 was raised!
  • Quiltface Studios' Chris Garofalo did a limited edition art print that pays tribute to James Harris and his love of Creepshow. It is now available HERE for a mere $20, and it is pretty damned cool - Jimmy would have definitely approved! Please pick one up because all money raised will be going to the Harris family! If you donated to the GoFundMe campaign to make this print possible, contact Danny over at The SHOCK Chamber with your mailing address to ensure that you get one!
  • The gentlemen at Vinegar Syndrome did a silent auction, and the winner (who spent a whopping THREE-THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!) got themselves a single MASSIVE package that will include all of VinSyn's releases from May thru the end of the year (including all secret and limited titles), a film canister with a VS shirt, VS hoodie and other added surprises inside. Congrats to the winner - thank you for your generosity!
  • For one week only, FRIGHT RAGS' did pre-orders for a Tribute tee to Jimmy "Doc Terror" Harris, designed by the uber-talented Jeff Zornow! The t-shirt was $20, the hoodie was $40, and every penny of that $2,000 going to Jimmy's family!
  • The folks from Exhumed Films dedicated Ex-Fest: Part VII to James. The event took place at the International House in Philadelphia, PA on Saturday, April 29th!
  • I've also heard that the folks that put on the Italian All-Night Splatter Fest at The Colonial Theater in Phoenixville, PA are dedicating their next big event in honor of Jimmy Terror. More details when I get them!
  • Chad from The Horror Movie BBQ put together a charity raffle to raise money for Jimmy's family, comprised of three enormous prize packs donated by various companies, bloggers, and other do-gooders. In the end, a whopping $1,435 was raised! Congrats to the winners!
  • On Friday, May 26th at 7:30 PM, The Alamo Drafthouse in Yonkers, NY did a James Harris Memorial Screening of CREEPSHOW!
  • Danny "Mozz" Monserrate from The SHOCK Chamber started up a GoFundMe for James last March. CLICK HERE to visit the page and make a donation.
  • Dan Terr of Inked Up Merch will be selling more Doc Terror beanies and baseball caps to raise money for Jimmy's family. The first batch has sold out but more are now available!

Further details (and hopefully more new events) will be posted soon. In the meantime, explore Jimmy's legacy on the web:

DOCTERROR.COM - Jimmy's home base on the internet. Even as his health deteriorated, he continued plugging away at it.

HORRORSEXY.COM - Home of the HorrorSexy podcast and the short-lived HorrorSexy Web-mag.

DOC TERROR YOUTUBE CHANNEL - Those 8-bit Horror game previews James and Frank Browning created are to die for!

CINEPUNX INTERVIEW WITH DOC TERROR - Cool interview with Doc Terror!

Jimmy, it was a distinct honor to call you my friend. I miss you terribly, but hope that someday, in some way, our paths will cross again. Rest in peace my friend, and thank you for being a shining example for so many of us.

Shout! Factory Proves That You're NEVER TOO YOUNG TO DIE on April 11th!

ON APRIL 11TH, JOHN STAMOS BEDS VANITY AND BATTLES GENE SIMMONS IN "NEVER TOO YOUNG TO DIE!"

Holy crap! I remember seeing this movie decades ago on VHS and I never thought I would see it get a legit Blu-ray release! Now that it has... I suddenly have the urge to revisit. I wasn't a big fan of it during my first viewing, but that may change once I've had a refresher!

Synopsis: When a top secret agent (George Lazenby, ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE) is murdered, his estranged gymnast son Lance Stargrove (John Stamos, Full House) teams up with his dad's seductive and deadly associate, Danja Deering (Vanity, ACTION JACKSON, THE LAST DRAGON) to face his father's killer… the fiendish mastermind Velvet Von Ragner (KISS' very own Gene Simmons.) The hermaphroditic heel is hell-bent on a scheme to poison the city's water supply — and it's up to Stargrove to crush Velvet once and for all!

This cult favorite was directed by Gil Bettmann (CRYSTAL HEART, NIGHT VISION) and features Peter Kwong (BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA), Robert Englund (A NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST.), and enough leather-clad, mohawked henchmen to fill a dozen ROAD WARRIOR knock-offs. You think you've seen it all? It's never too late to see NEVER TOO YOUNG TO DIE!

Disc Specs:
Rated R | Color | 97 minutes | Region A
Video - 1080p Widescreen (1.78:1)
Audio - TBA

Extras:
  • None listed.

As happy as I am to see this title released to Blu-ray, I am quite shocked that it seems to be a bare bones release, as there's no mention anywhere online about trailers, commentaries, or interviews for NEVER TOO YOUNG TO DIE! Regardless, if you're a diehard fan of this film, then you need to own this Blu-ray/DVD combo pack! It will be available on Tuesday, April 11th, and can be ordered now at AMAZON, BULLMOOSE, DIABOLIK DVD, or directly from SHOUT! FACTORY.

On April 11th, Get DEMENTED with Sallee Young!

SCREAM FACTORY BRINGS FORGOTTEN RAPE-REVENGE FLICK "DEMENTED"
TO BLU-RAY ON APRIL 11TH!

Having seen I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE, MS.45, and numerous other rape and revenge films, I didn't realize this particular entry into the sub-genre even existed! And as an added bonus, porn legend Harry Reems has a role in this movie! I'm filing this under "must see" right now!

Synopsis: She has lost everything. Hope…control…and her mind!

After surviving a brutal and devastating assault, Linda Rodgers (Sallee Young) is institutionalized in order to deal with her intense trauma. By the time she is finally released, her attackers have been brought to justice and imprisoned…but the psychological scars remain.

Tormented by visions of her attackers, and mistreated by her philandering husband (Harry Reems!), Linda is pushed over the edge when she encounters four young men whom she confuses with the men who assaulted her. Consumed with madness, Linda attempts to enact a bloody retribution for the disgusting crimes committed upon her… and no one is safe in this shocking 1980 exploitation film in the tradition of I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE!

Disc Specs:
Rated R | Color | 92 minutes | Region A
Video - 1080p Widescreen (1.85:1)
Audio - N/A

Extras:
  • NEW! High-Definition Film Transfer From The Interpositive!
  • Original Theatrical Trailer
DEMENTED hits stores on Tuesday, April 11th, and is available to order at AMAZON, BULLMOOSE, DIABOLIK DVD, and SHOUT! FACTORY's online store! I am intrigued by this movie, and plan on picking it up later on this year. (Crossing my fingers for a Scream Factory sale this Summer or sometime in October!) Peep out the trailer and get excited Vault Dwellers!

Soldiers Face Their Phobias in the Apocalyptic World of TANK 432! Now available on DVD & Blu-ray!

SCREAM FACTORY AND IFC MIDNIGHT WANT YOU TO GO CRAZY WITH
THE CREW OF
"TANK 432!"

IFC Midnight titles are hit and miss, but this one seems like it'll be pretty cool. I'm guessing it is one of those types of films where you'll be trying to figure out if there is actually a physical threat (i.e. mutant soldiers or a bio-weapon), or if everyone is just slowly going mad! Either way, I'm down!

Synopsis: From executive producer Ben Wheatley (KILL LIST, HIGH-RISE) comes a mind-bending plunge into hallucinatory terror. Under siege by a mysterious enemy in an apocalyptic, war-torn landscape, a band of mercenary soldiers, hooded hostages in tow, seek refuge inside an abandoned military tank.

But their sanctuary soon reveals itself to be a steel-walled prison. As the group succumbs to claustrophobia, paranoia, and increasingly disturbing delusions, it becomes clear that the real threat may lie not outside, but within. The directorial debut from longtime Wheatley collaborator Nick Gillespie unfolds like a delirious, pulse-pounding puzzle.

Disc Specs:
Not Rated | Color | 88 minutes | Region A
Video - 1080p Widescreen (2.40:1)
Audio - TBA

Extras:
  • N/A. (This seems like another bare bones release, but it may at the very least contain a trailer.)

TANK 432 is now available wherever Blu-rays and DVDs are sold, including AMAZON, BULLMOOSE (which is currently offering the cheapest price), and SHOUT! FACTORY. Not sure if you're game for this one? Then check out the trailer below!

Scream Factory Helps The Bee Girls Invade Blu-ray and DVD!

WITNESS THE "INVASION OF THE BEE GIRLS!" SEX-STARVED HYBRIDS SEDUCE AND KILL MEN IN THIS CLASSIC SOFTCORE SCI-FI CLASSIC FROM SCREAM FACTORY!

I count myself fortunate to have seen INVASION OF THE BEE GIRLS in 35mm! It's a fun, and oddly erotic little sci-fi film that rises above its ludicrous (and sometimes hilarious) plot! And yes, before you even ask, you see plenty of "Boo-Bees" in this flick!

Synopsis: "INVASION OF THE BEE GIRLS is the best schlock soft-core science fiction movie since The Vengeance of She," claimed film critic Roger Ebert. And who wouldn't be terrified by the very thought of watching these lovely bee-hived beauties love their chosen mates to death?

A government inspector, that's who. And now he alone must stop their lust for killing, before he becomes one of the Queen Bee's honeys! This bee-witching tale stars a pair of bee-uties: Anitra Ford (THE BIG BIRD CAGE) and Victoria Vetri (WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH).

Disc Specs:
Rated R | Color | 86 minutes | Region A
Video - 1080p Widescreen (1.85:1)

Dolph Lundgren Hunts Demons in DON'T KILL IT! Now available on Blu-ray and DVD!

WATCH DOLPH LUNDGREN HUNT A BODY-HOPPING DEMON IN MIKE MENDEZ' "DON'T KILL IT!"

I posted about this film a while back and I'm happy to report that it is now available on DVD and Blu-ray! I'm looking forward to watching DON'T KILL IT at some point, and think it would definitely make a great double feature with 1998's similarly-themed Dolph Lundgren vehicle, THE MINION (aka KNIGHT OF THE APOCALYPSE).

Synopsis: An ancient evil is unleashed in a small Mississippi town leaving a trail of death and destruction as it passes from host to host. The only hope of survival lies with a grizzled demon hunter (Dolph Lundgren) who has faced this terror before. Together with a reluctant FBI agent he has to figure out how to destroy a demon with the ability to possess its killer.

Disc Specs:
Not Rated | Color | 83 minutes | Region A
Video - 1080p Widescreen (2.39:1)
Audio - DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1

Extras:
  • None.
DON'T KILL IT is sadly a bare bones disc, but comes relatively cheap (between $13 - $16). It is currently available wherever discs are sold, including AMAZON, BULLMOOSE, and DIABOLIK DVD! Scope out the trailer below before you buy it!
