STOCK YOUR VAULT: New Blu-rays & 4K Discs for 01/10 - 01/24/23!

Vault Master's Pick of the Week(s)!

Hello there fellow collectors and welcome to another edition of our handy STOCK YOUR VAULT column! As was the case with the last post, we're tripling up because there are so few titles of interest in the first month of the year! But that doesn't mean there aren't a bunch of cool discs that will have you scrambling to click those order buttons on Amazon and other retailer sites!

January 10th wasn't too shabby and gave us Arrow Video's new Blu-ray releases of THE DUNWICH HORROR (starring Dean Stockwell) and THE EXECUTIONER COLLECTION (a two-film set featuring the late Sonny Chiba!), Sony's new 4K UHD of the beloved Bill Murray comedy GROUNDHOG DAY, and Scream Factory's new 4K release of OUIJA.

The following week was once again light on new releases but boasted Paramount's new 4K steelbook of CLOVERFIELD, Arrow Video's 2-disc double feature of LADY WHIRLWIND & HAPKIDO, and Scream Factory's limited edition 4K steelbook of John Carpenter's (still very relevant) sci-fi classic THEY LIVE! I should also note that Kino Lorber Studio Classics dropped PROGRAMMED TO KILL (aka THE RETALIATOR), as well as a Blu-ray set of Cannon's classic MISSING IN ACTION TRILOGY!

Finally, this week fares a bit better with a larger mix of titles from many of our favorite labels: Kino Lorber Studio Classics gives iconic Charles Bronson revenge flick DEATH WISH its 4K debut, Shout Select brings seven martial arts classics to Blu-ray in the new JACKIE CHAN COLLECTION: VOLUME I, and MVD Rewind Collection adds MEN AT WORK to their Blu-ray catalog! Ronin Flix brings NIGHTMARE MAN to Blu-ray for the first time ever, and Scream Factory adds another modern Horror title to their 4K collection, namely the surprisingly fun FREAKY!

But I'm giving the mantle of "Pick of the Week" to Lionsgate's latest addition to their Vestron Video Collector's Series, namely THE DENTIST COLLECTION! Starring the fantastic Corbin Bersen as the titular villain of these two direct-to-video Horror essentials, this new set offers up new transfers of the films and lots of cool extras, such as feature-length commentaries with director Brian Yuzna and special f/x supervistor Anthony C. Ferrante, isolated score tracks with commentary by Alan Howarth, trailers, cast & crew interviews, and more!

STOCK YOUR VAULT: New Blu-rays & 4K Discs for 12/07/2022!

 

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

Another week, another slew of awesome Blu-ray and 4K releases! Welcome to the (sometimes) weekly STOCK YOUR VAULT column fellow collectors. This week is absolutely loaded with awesome titles that you'll either want to gift to others, or add to your own Christmas wishlists!

After multiple release date changes, VCI finally dropped their 50th Anniversary 4K (and Blu-ray) of Bob Clark's CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS, while Scream Factory gave Bob Clark's other notorious holiday favorite BLACK CHRISTMAS a stellar new 4K UHD release! Paramount re-released the beloved Walter Hill classic THE WARRIORS, this time in a new Blu-ray steelbook, gave PULP FICTION its 4K debut (in standard and steelbook editions), and brought 48 HOURS (and its sequel ANOTHER 48 HOURS) to 4K for the first time! (Get them separately or in a double feature!)

Well Go USA brought the stellar Korean zombie flick TRAIN TO BUSAN to 4K, Lionsgate released Kevin Smith's CLERKS III to Blu-ray, and Arrow Video dropped THE LEECH and NIGHTMARE AT NOON (formally a Scream Factory title) to Blu-ray disc! Phil Tippett's MAD GOD arrived on Blu-ray this week from Shudder, Mill Creek added yet another Ultraman series to DVD (this time its the animated ULTRAMAN KIDS series), and The Warner Archive Collection debuted the original ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT WOMAN on Blu-ray disc!

Even though a lot of the titles I just mentioned are absolutely awesome, I made my pick of the week Arrow Video's brand new Limited Edition SHAWSCOPE: VOLUME 2 boxed set! Boasting ten Blu-ray discs in a gorgeous collectible box, this set features hours of bonus features and new HD masters of fourteen Shaw Bros. classics including: 36TH CHAMBER OF SHAOLIN, RETURN TO THE 36TH CHAMBER, DISCIPLES OF THE 36TH CHAMBER, MAD MONKEY KUNG FU, FIVE SUPERFIGHTERS, INVINCIBLE SHAOLIN, THE KID WITH THE GOLDEN ARM, MAGNIFICENT RUFFIANS, TEN TIGERS OF KWANGTUNG, MY YOUNG AUNTIE, MERCENARIES FROM HONG KONG, THE BOXER'S OMEN, MARTIAL ARTS OF SHAOLIN, and THE BARE-FOOTED KID!

STOCK YOUR VAULT: New DVDs & Blu-rays for 09/29/2020!

 

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

Hello fellow collectors of fine physical media, and welcome to yet another (late) edition of the News Vault's STOCK YOUR VAULT column! This past Tuesday saw a noticeable increase of new DVDs, Blu-rays, and 4K discs, but as we head towards Halloween, there are going to be some definite must-have titles, so plan accordingly Vault Dwellers!

This week The Criterion Collection released their new Blu-ray of the beautiful (and oh so sad tale of) THE ELEPHANT MAN, Universal released a triple feature of JAWS 2, JAWS 3(D), and JAWS: THE REVENGE on Blu-ray, and Discotek Media gave the awesome anime film WICKED CITY its Region A Blu-ray debut!

Scream Factory delivered a new Collector's Edition of 2002's GHOST SHIP, Dark Force Entertainment gave us THE BANKER (with Robert Forster), DEATH RAGE, and a double feature disc featuring CHINESE HERCULES & BRUCE'S NINJA SECRET, Code Red DVD brought us Lucio Fulci's CONQUEST on Blu, and Vinegar Syndrome delivers new Blu-ray releases of THE CALLER and PANDEMONIUM!

Warner Archive Collection released GENESIS II & PLANET EARTH in a double feature set, Kino Lorber released GOTCHA!, the AGFA quietly dropped SOMETIMES AUNT MARTHA DOES DREADFUL THINGS, Scorpion Releasing's lone title for the week was TRICK BABY, and Universal unleashed their BLUMHOUSE OF HORRORS set which features a whopping ten films!

And just when you think there was nothing else you could possibly want to spend money on, Severin Films bursts your bubble with three new titles including MASSACRE IN DINOSAUR VALLEY, PRIMITIVES, and Bruno Mattei's CRUEL JAWS! All three films have been newly restored, come with a good number of extras, and must be seen to be believed!

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

Greetings Vault Dwellers and welcome to your weekly dose of all things DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K disc related! Sorry I'm a little late in posting last Tuesday's new titles - it's probably going to be the new norm until I get my son "Action" Jackson on a more normalized sleep schedule. (Ah yes. Sleep... those little slices of death... how I miss them.)

This past Tuesday Kino Lorber Studio Classics released THE GHOST BREAKERS and THE CAT AND THE CANARY to Blu-ray disc, Arrow dropped their Blu of JESUS SHOWS YOU THE WAY TO THE HIGHWAY, Scorpion Releasing unveiled their new Blu-ray of DEF-CON 4, and Warner Bros. gave RED DWARF: THE PROMISED LAND its North American debut!

For you tokusatsu/kaiju fans, Mill Creek released yet another Ultra-set to Blu-ray featuring both UTLRAMAN GINGA and ULTRAMAN GINGA S, MVD Marquee Collection gave the forgotten DAHMER a nice Collector's Edition release on both DVD and Blu-ray, and Paramount released a 5-Movie STEPHEN KING COLLECTION, which features PET SEMATARY and its 2019 remake, SILVER BULLET, THE STAND (TV Mini-Series), and for the first time ever, THE DEAD ZONE featuring Christopher Walken!

But this week totally goes to Lionsgate's Vestron Video Collector's Series label, which has returned with a vengeance after remaining quiet for almost a full year! Vestron kicks things off with new Blu-ray discs of LITTLE MONSTERS (1989) and Cronenberg's SHIVERS (aka THEY CAME FROM WITHIN). Both movies come with slipcovers and a slew of new (and archival) extras, and amazingly both releases are surprisingly cheap, which is great news for us collectors!

Hey Vault Dwellers! Sorry for the delay in updating all of you on last week's new DVDs, Blu-rays, and 4K discs! To make up for it, I'm going to do a double shot of STOCK YOUR VAULT today so, to quote Samuel L. Jackson in JURASSIC PARK (forgot he was in that, didn't you?): "Hold onto your butts!"

06 - 16 - 2020
Last week Paramount hit us with a steelbook of FRIDAY THE 13TH (which was just a repackage of the previous Blu-ray release), Severin unleashed their slightly delayed Blu-rays of HORRORS OF SPIDER ISLAND and SATAN'S SLAVE, and Dark Force Entertainment hit us with three new releases: CHAOS, THE GIANT SPIDER INVASION, and PRIMAL SCREAM!

THE MARSHES (a Shudder exclusive) arrived on DVD & Blu-ray disc, both BRAVEHEART and GLADIATOR made their 4K steelbook debuts, and Darkside Releasing unveiled DEADLY CRUSH and HYDE'S SECRET NIGHTMARE.

But Scream Factory won the week with their new UNIVERSAL HORROR COLLECTION: VOLUME 5 (which contains four classic fright flicks from the Universal vaults!) and their stellar Blu-ray of THE HILLS RUN RED, which is loaded with hours of new extras and multiple new audio commentary tracks! Fans of this indie slasher NEED this disc!

Ah, here we go! Back on track! Welcome to the current week fellow film collectors! If you thought last week's slate of new DVDs, Blu-rays, and 4K Ultra HD discs was disappointing, well I have news for you: This week is way worse! But on the plus side, it looks like we'll all be saving some money!

Scream Factory's lone new release this week is Bert I. Gordon's THE SPIDER (aka EARTH VS. THE SPIDER), Arrow Academy brings THE MAD FOX to Blu-ray for the first time, and Kino Lorber Studio Classics delivers multiple new titles, including THE LAST VALLEY (featuring a very young Michael Caine), a Special Edition Blu of MURDER BY DECREE, and CARAVANS (featuring Christopher Lee)!

The Warner Archive Collection brings the Vincent Price classic HOUSE OF WAX 3D back into print, but this week I'm giving the glory to Arrow Video's new Blu-ray release of DREAM DEMON. This film has been out of print for a very long time, and has received the royal treatment from the fine folks at Arrow! This disc contains two cuts of the film, a new 2K restoration, new audio commentary, a ton of new cast & crew interviews, a new making-of documentary, and MORE!

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

Now that we're back into the swing of things here at The Vault, it's time for another weekly edition of our STOCK YOUR VAULT column! This week has a pretty small lineup of new releases, but as always, there are a few must-haves lurking about!

VCI released their Special Edition of DYNAMO as part of their martial-arts themed "Pearl River Collection," Mill Creek Entertainment added THE DALLAS CONNECTION and ENEMY GOLD to their Andy Sidaris Blu-ray series, and Shout! Factory gave HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE and PONYO new Steelbook releases! Speaking of steelbooks, Section 23 just put out a new steelbook of VAMPIRE HUNTER D that looks great but is outrageously priced!

Dark Force Entertainment's latest Blu-ray offering is TEENAGE HITCHHIKERS, The Film Detective finally releases their delayed 40th Anniversary Limited Edition of FIST OF FEAR, TOUCH OF DEATH (on May 15th), and Scorpion Releasing brings SHADOW PLAY to both DVD & Blu-ray today! For those of you looking for something more recent to add to your collection, you can now own BIRDS OF PREY, Blumhouse's FANTASY ISLAND, and VIVARIUM on DVD or Blu-ray!

Scream Factory's lone title this week is their new Collector's Edition of IDLE HANDS, which boasts a new audio commentary and multiple cast & crew interviews, and it would have been my pick of the week, had Warner Archive Collection not released THE MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM. Boasting an all new restoration and several bonus features, this movie (which was once considered a "lost film") this proto-HOUSE OF WAX has never looked so good!

The Warner Archive Collection Wants You to Solve THE MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM!

THE ORIGINAL "HOUSE OF WAX" MAKES ITS BLU-RAY DEBUT ON MAY 12TH THANKS TO THE WARNER ARCHIVE COLLECTION!

It may shock many of you to know that 1953's HOUSE OF WAX, featuring the legendary Vincent Price, was in fact a remake of Michael Curtiz' 1933 classic THE MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM. For the longest time, the only way to see it was to purchase the (now out of print) 3D Blu-ray release of HOUSE OF WAX! That all changes on Tuesday (May 12th!) when Warner Archive gives this (once lost) film an official Blu-ray release that boasts a gorgeous new HD restoration and exclusive bonus features!

Synopsis: Bodies are mysteriously disappearing all over town, and a new wax museum has just opened. Is there a connection? But of course! In this horror classic, Fay Wray (KING KONG) stars as the intended next victim of a mad wax sculptor obsessed with her resemblance to one of his prior creations. Glenda Farrell plays a quintessential wisecracking newspaper reporter, and noted actor Lionel Atwill is the deranged artist who loses his studio to a fire set by his partner.

Filmed in the early Two-Color Technicolor® process, THE MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM was considered a lost film for decades, until a well-worn print was discovered nearly 50 years ago. Thanks to the meticulous new restoration presented on this disc, the film can now be experienced as intended!

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

It's Tuesday again Vault Dwellers, which means it's time to Stock Our Vaults with some new DVDs, Blu-rays, and/or 4K Ultra HD discs! While last week was pretty light on new releases, this week makes up for it with a much larger roster of new titles to choose from!

Well Go USA brings the steampunk fantasy-adventure ABIGAIL to DVD & Blu-ray today, Scorpion Releasing gives RAW COURAGE its DVD & Blu-ray debut, and the holiday-themed slasher HANUKKAH comes to home video!

Scream Factory's lone release this week is their UNIVERSAL HORROR COLLECTION: VOLUME 4 set, which contains NIGHT KEY, NIGHT MONSTER, THE CLIMAX, and HOUSE OF HORRORS, Glenn Danzig's hot mess VEROTIKA arrives in a Blu-ray/DVD/CD combo release, and Mill Creek Entertainment brings another pair of Andy Sidaris classics to Blu-ray, namely FIT TO KILL and HARD HUNTED!

Dark Force Entertainment surprisingly found distribution outside of their own online store, and unleashed numerous new titles on Blu-ray today, including: FREEWAY 2: CONFESSIONS OF A TRICK BABY, THE LONERS & DRAGON VS. NEEDLE OF DEATH (double feature), MIRROR MIRROR, MIRROR MIRROR 2: RAVEN DANCE, and POINT DOOM! But the winner this week (in my opinion) is Kino Lorber Studio Classics, who have graced us with the first ever Blu-ray release of Antonio Margheriti's CANNIBAL APOCALYPSE! (As well as FORCE 10 FROM NAVARONE and MAN IN THE SHADOW!) This Italian exploitation shocker boasts a new 4K restoration, audio commentary, interviews, documentary, and more!

Greetings Vault Dwellers! We're almost halfway through November and about to hit the final motherload of new Blu-ray, 4K, and DVD releases for 2019! This week in particular has quite a few must-haves for your growing collections.

Both seasons of YouTube's COBRA KAI web-series arrived on DVD today (even though they allegedly were never getting a release on physical media), Troma's RETURN TO.... RETURN TO NUKE 'EM HIGH (AKA VOLUME 2) just hit Blu-ray, as did FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC from our friends at Arrow Video!

Kino Lorber flooded retailers with new titles today, which include RETURN TO MACON COUNTY, CHARLEY VARRICK, THUNDERBOLT AND LIGHTFOOT, WINTER KILLS, and STREET PEOPLE, Darkside Releasing released THE ATTIC and DANGER GOD to Blu-ray, Mondo Macabro brings EMANUELLE IN AMERICA to HD, and Severin Films delivers a cool Blu-ray/CD combo of WEREWOLF IN A GIRLS' DORMITORY!

Shout! Factory released a new Limited Edition Steelbook of POPSTAR: NEVER STOP NEVER STOPPING, Shout Select brings the Eddie Murphy NUTTY PROFESSOR films together in a new collection (wait, how do two films warrant a "collection?"), and sister label Scream Factory wins the week with an extras-packed release for Richard Franklin's ROAD GAMES! This one comes with a ton of special features, new cover art (which is reversible I believe), and likely boasts the same 4K remastered transfer from the film's Aussie Blu-ray release!

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

Greetings Vault Dwellers and HAPPY (early) HALLOWEEN! The final week of October 2019 is jam-packed with super cool Blu-ray and DVD releases, many of which are perfect viewing choices for our favorite holiday! But boy do I hope you've all been saving up your pennies!

Scream Factory comes out swinging with new Blu-ray releases of THE DEVIL RIDES OUT and Chuck Russell's fantastic remake of THE BLOB, while Severin Films fires back with a trio of bizarre Horror titles on Blu-ray, namely PAGANINI HORROR, BYLETH: THE DEMON OF INCEST, and WEREWOLF IN A GIRLS' DORMITORY (uncut)!

Arrow Video also has a really strong lineup this week, with their Limited Edition Blu-ray of AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, Special Edition of RINGU, the four-movie RINGU COLLECTION, plus new Special (i.e. standard) Edition re-releases of THE COMPLETE SARTANA and FEMALE PRISONER SCORPION: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION!

Synapse leaps into the fray with their new Special Edition of WATCH ME WHEN I KILL and UNDERTAKER, Blue Underground impresses with their 3-Disc Limited Edition of TWO EVIL EYES, and Kino Lorber brings NIGHTMARE IN BADHAM COUNTY, PRIVATE SCHOOL, and THE 3D NUDIE CUTIES COLLECTION to Blu-ray disc!

But Criterion Collection truly towers over the awesome output of all the other competing labels this week, with their incredible release of GODZILLA: THE SHOWA ERA FILMS! Containing all fifteen of the original Godzilla films (ranging from the classic GOJIRA to TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA) and loaded with extras, this oversized piece of pop-culture mayhem is a must-own for any and all Godzilla fans!

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

Greetings Vault Dwellers! Halloween is NEXT WEEK (can you believe this month went by that fast?!) and it's time to stock up on some fright flicks to enjoy at home! Shockingly, Scream Factory appears to have sat this week out, so it's up to all of our other favorite genre labels to fill the gap!

Arrow Video released new Special Edition Blu-rays of CRIMSON PEAK and THE DEAD CENTER, director Richard Bates Jr.'s new film TONE-DEF arrived on DVD & Blu-ray, the Warner Archive Collection finally gave the original DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK its Blu-ray debut!

Mondo Macabro comes out of nowhere with two new Blu-ray titles, namely THE KILLER OF DOLLS and WOMAN CHASING THE BUTTERFLY OF DEATH, Scorpion Releasing brings COVERGIRL and TALKING WALLS to DVD & Blu-ray, and director Chelsea Stardust's new Horror-Comedy SATANIC PANIC makes its home video debut!

But the true champion this week is Kino Lorber Studio Classics! They've released FOUR new titles to Special Edition Blu-ray (and DVD) today, including PARASITE (in 2D & 3D!), PHOBIA, TRILOGY OF TERROR II, and ZOLTAN: HOUND OF DRACULA! Aside from TRILOGY, the other films all received shiny new 4K remasters, and all four releases have new extras!
