STOCK YOU VAULT: New Blu-rays & 4K Discs for the Week of 04/14/26!

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

Update: Kino Lorber's Blu-ray release of QUEEN OF THE RING has been pushed back to July 14th!

Another week means another stack of new discs to add to your collections Vault Dwellers! The release slate is pretty light with Kino Lorber ruling the roost with half-a-dozen new titles (several of which are making their debuts on 4K UHD), but there's a few other discs that may be of interest to you casual collectors and diehard curators of physical media! And if there isn't, well save your money because the next two weeks are packed!

MY PICK OF THE WEEK: DEATH SHIP (4K UHD) from Kino Lorber Studio Classics! This 2-disc set boasts a new 4K restoration of the film's theatrical cut (no such love for its extended version it would seem), plus a trio of new audio commentaries from several "film historians." All of the archival bonus features from previous releases seem to be included as well!


OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

• Mondo Macabro's new 4K UHD of BOHACHI BUSHIDO: CODE OF THE FORGOTTEN EIGHT (previously only available through their website) is here! Along with an all-new 4K restoration from an original film negative, the disc contains two audio commentaries, new and archival interviews, and a theatrical trailer! Note: The Blu-ray release of this title arrives in early July!
• The Criterion Collection brings Monty Python's LIFE OF BRIAN to 4K for the first time ever with a new 4K restoration supervised by director Terry Gilliam! Extras on this release include two feature-length commentaries, the 2007 making-of documentary, deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes footage (shot on 8mm), and more! Also available on Blu-ray disc!
• Obscure label Eclectic releases a 4K-restored 8mm double feature of David Markey's DESPERATE TEENAGE LOVEDOLLS and LOVEDOLLS SUPERSTAR! Bonus features include audio commentaries, deleted scenes & alternate takes, making-of featurette, trailers, and more!
• Kino Lorber's other major releases this week include the Billy Zane pulp hero film THE PHANTOM (new director-approved 4K restoration, new director's commentary, new interviews), REMO WILLIAMS:  THE ADVENTURE BEGINS... (new 4K restoration from original camera negative, two audio commentaries, new interview with actor Patrick Kilpatrick, and numerous archival featurettes), and UFORIA (new 4K restoration from the original camera negative, new audio commentary, and theatrical trailer)!

STOCK YOUR VAULT: New Blu-rays & 4K Discs for 11/19/24!

 

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

Welcome! Welcome one and all to the first Stock Your Vault post since umm.... January?! Egads! Well in a (some would say a vain) attempt to get back into the swing of things, your friendly neighborhood Vault Master is here to share good tidings of new physical media releases on Blu-ray and 4K UHD! And this week is absolutely loaded with fantastic titles from all of your favorite boutique labels, so strap in and brace yourselves for pure awesome!

While there are a lot of Blu-ray and 4K titles to be excited for, I'd have to say the two most highly-anticipated ones are Toho's GODZILLA: MINUS ONE and Universal's 40th Anniversary release of THE TERMINATOR! The Oscar-winning MINUS ONE offers up a gorgeous 4K presentation with various audio tracks (including a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD English dub!), featurettes, and trailers. Even upon release day, I honestly still don't know if the bonus features have English subtitles - I guess I'll find out when I pick up a copy in the near future! Also, as of my posting this, it would seem that the Limited Edition Steelbook is completely OOP, which absolutely sucks, because it's the only way to get a copy of GODZILLA: MINUS ONE/MINUS COLOR.

THE TERMINATOR comes fully restored in 4K with a DolbyVision/HDR presentation of the film, plus a Dolby Atmos audio track option! The disc includes a handful of featurettes ported over from previous releases, as well as seven deleted scenes! I've read a few reviews about this disc and it is getting rave reviews for the quality of the restoration, so I do believe it is time for me to upgrade from my old Blu-ray disc!

Other releases worth noting are: Warner Bros.' 4K of BLAZING SADDLES, Shout! Studios' fantastically expensive 4K collector's sets of THE DARK CRYSTAL and LABYRINTH, Kino Lorber's 1,000 CONVICTS AND A WOMAN (which is #20 in their Kino Cult line), Universal's SPEAK NO EVIL (which is apparently a worthy remake of the bleak original), and Arrow Video's limited editions of TOMIE (which is part of their recent love affair with J-Horror films), and A SIMPLE PLAN.

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

Another week, another slew of awesome Blu-ray and 4K releases! Welcome to the (sometimes) weekly STOCK YOUR VAULT column fellow collectors. This week is absolutely loaded with awesome titles that you'll either want to gift to others, or add to your own Christmas wishlists!

After multiple release date changes, VCI finally dropped their 50th Anniversary 4K (and Blu-ray) of Bob Clark's CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS, while Scream Factory gave Bob Clark's other notorious holiday favorite BLACK CHRISTMAS a stellar new 4K UHD release! Paramount re-released the beloved Walter Hill classic THE WARRIORS, this time in a new Blu-ray steelbook, gave PULP FICTION its 4K debut (in standard and steelbook editions), and brought 48 HOURS (and its sequel ANOTHER 48 HOURS) to 4K for the first time! (Get them separately or in a double feature!)

Well Go USA brought the stellar Korean zombie flick TRAIN TO BUSAN to 4K, Lionsgate released Kevin Smith's CLERKS III to Blu-ray, and Arrow Video dropped THE LEECH and NIGHTMARE AT NOON (formally a Scream Factory title) to Blu-ray disc! Phil Tippett's MAD GOD arrived on Blu-ray this week from Shudder, Mill Creek added yet another Ultraman series to DVD (this time its the animated ULTRAMAN KIDS series), and The Warner Archive Collection debuted the original ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT WOMAN on Blu-ray disc!

Even though a lot of the titles I just mentioned are absolutely awesome, I made my pick of the week Arrow Video's brand new Limited Edition SHAWSCOPE: VOLUME 2 boxed set! Boasting ten Blu-ray discs in a gorgeous collectible box, this set features hours of bonus features and new HD masters of fourteen Shaw Bros. classics including: 36TH CHAMBER OF SHAOLIN, RETURN TO THE 36TH CHAMBER, DISCIPLES OF THE 36TH CHAMBER, MAD MONKEY KUNG FU, FIVE SUPERFIGHTERS, INVINCIBLE SHAOLIN, THE KID WITH THE GOLDEN ARM, MAGNIFICENT RUFFIANS, TEN TIGERS OF KWANGTUNG, MY YOUNG AUNTIE, MERCENARIES FROM HONG KONG, THE BOXER'S OMEN, MARTIAL ARTS OF SHAOLIN, and THE BARE-FOOTED KID!

Vault Master's Pick of the Week for 11/22!

November is about to end gang, which means that it's that sad time of the year that requires us to (GASP!) spend money on other people! (AHHHH! NOOO!) Luckily this is also typically the slow season for new releases from most boutique labels, so even if you're not shopping for others, your bank accounts can take a bit of a breather.

As has been the case lately, I'm a little behind on reporting the new Blu-ray and 4K releases, so this week is another double-up edition to get ya'll caught up on all the new stuff that you may want to add to your growing collections! Last week had a pretty solid lineup of new titles on both formats with Kino Lorber putting out MYSTERY MEN and HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER on 4K UHD, as well as new Blu-rays of THE BLOOD BEAST TERROR and Season 3 of NIGHT GALLERY!

Scream Factory delivered an all new 4K release of THE COMPANY OF WOLVES (a fantastical retelling of "Little Red Riding Hood" that is at times visually stunning, but isn't really my cup of tea), while,  Blue Underground gave the time travel classic THE FINAL COUNTDOWN its 4K debut, and Dark Force Entertainment released a trio of their popular Drive-In Double Features!

But despite all that good stuff, I chose Shout Factory's 4K debut of the original ROLLERBALL as my pick of the week! Along with the new 4K transfer, the disc comes with two audio commentaries, trailers, and a handful of archival featurettes about the making of this classic dystopian sci-fi flick!

Vault Master's Pick of the Week for 11/29!

Moving on to this week, well... there really isn't a whole lot gang. Discotek Media brings THE LEGEND OF DINOSAURS AND MONSTER BIRDS to Blu-ray for the first time, Cauldron Films dropped exclusive special edition releases of SHANGHAI JOE and CONVOY BUSTERS, and Season 4 of WESTWORLD arrived on both Blu-ray and 4K UHD!

The winner of my "coveted" pick of the week was easy this time around Vault Dwellers: Vinegar Syndrome's gorgeous 4K release of Tobe Hooper's TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2! Along with a pristine-looking transfer, this 2-disc set is absolutely loaded with special features including FOUR audio commentaries, an extended making-of documentary, new and archival cast & crew interviews, multiple featurettes, trailers, deleted scenes, and MORE! This release was limited to 10,000 copies, so if you see one online (or in the wild) jump on it fast!

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

Greetings fellow collectors and welcome to another edition of the News Vault's weekly STOCK YOUR VAULT! I'm know I'm super llate in posting this (sorry!) but hey, better late than never right? This past week was a bit light on new titles but as is typically the case, there are some definite gems you may want to add to your growing collections!

Full Moon Pictures brought THE HAND THAT FEEDS THE DEAD to DVD & Blu-ray, Image Entertainment gave RANDOM ACTS OF VIOLENCE its physical media debut, and HBO dropped season one of LOVECRAFT COUNTRY on DVD & Blu-ray disc!

Well Go USA's lone release this past week was THE SWORDSMAN, Lionsgate released FEAR OF RAIN and THE VERY EXCELLENT MR. DUNDEE (the latter should be a real treat for all you Paul Hogan fans out there), Paramount debuted GOOD BURGER on Blu-ray disc, and Kino Lorber once again makes a show of force with the largest number of Blu-ray releases, including JETSONS: THE MOVIE, THE UNDERNEATH, THE UNSEEN (distributed on behalf of Scorpion Releasing), and SLITHIS (in conjunction with Code Red)!

Honestly, there wasn't really a big/important Blu-ray release this week, so I had a tough time choosing my "pick of the week." I settled on Image Entertainment's new Blu of ARCHENEMY starring Joe Manganiello because it sounds interesting, and because Joe recently liked a tweet of mine when I promoted the film a week or two ago. (Thanks Joe - you rock!)

There are some titles I haven't yet mentioned (like the new Limited Edition "Titans of Cult" 4K Steelbook of PACIFIC RIM) - to peep them all out just continue scrolling down! You might find a few things you want but I'd personally suggest saving your money because much more worthwhile releases are on the horizon!

STOCK YOUR VAULT: New DVDs & Blu-rays for 03/17/2020!

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

It's Tuesday again Vault Dwellers, which means it's time to Stock Our Vaults with some new DVDs, Blu-rays, and/or 4K Ultra HD discs! While last week was pretty light on new releases, this week makes up for it with a much larger roster of new titles to choose from!

Well Go USA brings the steampunk fantasy-adventure ABIGAIL to DVD & Blu-ray today, Scorpion Releasing gives RAW COURAGE its DVD & Blu-ray debut, and the holiday-themed slasher HANUKKAH comes to home video!

Scream Factory's lone release this week is their UNIVERSAL HORROR COLLECTION: VOLUME 4 set, which contains NIGHT KEY, NIGHT MONSTER, THE CLIMAX, and HOUSE OF HORRORS, Glenn Danzig's hot mess VEROTIKA arrives in a Blu-ray/DVD/CD combo release, and Mill Creek Entertainment brings another pair of Andy Sidaris classics to Blu-ray, namely FIT TO KILL and HARD HUNTED!

Dark Force Entertainment surprisingly found distribution outside of their own online store, and unleashed numerous new titles on Blu-ray today, including: FREEWAY 2: CONFESSIONS OF A TRICK BABY, THE LONERS & DRAGON VS. NEEDLE OF DEATH (double feature), MIRROR MIRROR, MIRROR MIRROR 2: RAVEN DANCE, and POINT DOOM! But the winner this week (in my opinion) is Kino Lorber Studio Classics, who have graced us with the first ever Blu-ray release of Antonio Margheriti's CANNIBAL APOCALYPSE! (As well as FORCE 10 FROM NAVARONE and MAN IN THE SHADOW!) This Italian exploitation shocker boasts a new 4K restoration, audio commentary, interviews, documentary, and more!

STOCK YOUR VAULT: New DVDs & Blu-rays for 03/10/2020!

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

It's Tuesday, and you know what that means Vault Dwellers: New DVDs, Blu-rays, and 4K Ultra HD discs! Lucky for us, this particular week is pretty light on new titles so you can save some money before all of our favorite genre labels unload a flurry of must-have discs upon us in coming weeks!

Well Go USA offers up THE WITCH: SUBVERSION on DVD & Blu-ray today, the surprising 2018 hit A QUIET PLACE gets a nifty new 4K Limited Edition Steelbook, and Altered Innocence brings the German fright flick LUZ to Region A Blu-ray!

Kino Lorber Studio Classics squeaks out a trio of classic Westerns, including NIGHT PASSAGE, CANYON PASSAGE, and THE RARE BREED, Shout Select brings MASKED AND ANONYMOUS (starring Bob Dylan?!) to DVD & Blu-ray, and Elizabeth Banks' 2019 flop, CHARLIE'S ANGELS, makes its way to home video.

That leaves Scream Factory to carry the burden this week with two great new titles! First up is 1975's BUG, which comes to Blu-ray for the first time ever and offers up the theatrical trailer and a new audio commentary from film historian Troy Howarth as extras! Also available today is the British exploitation sensation INSEMINOID, which makes its North American Blu-ray debut in a disc that is loaded with hours of new and archival extras! I can't wait to get my paws on both releases!

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

Hey Vault Dwellers - welcome to March 2020! As far as DVDs & Blu-rays go, March is coming in like a lamb with a rather small release slate of new titles. But as is the case just about every week, there are some new discs you may want to pick up.

Well Go USA brings the animated adventure NE ZHA to all formats (including 4K!), Scorpion Releasing gives the obscure comedy BAD MANNERS (aka GROWING PAINS) its DVD & Blu-ray debut, and Scream Factory gives us two new indie titles: I AM FEAR and RADIOFLASH.

This is truly Kino Lorber Studio Classics' week though, as they rolled out a double feature of SWEENEY! & SWEENEY 2, PRAY FOR THE WILDCATS (which features Andy Griffith and William Shatner!), SUPERDOME, and the SERGIO LEONE WESTERNS: 5-FILM COLLECTION! This set features the previous Special Edition releases of A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS, FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE, THE GOOD, THE BAD, & THE UGLY, A FISTFUL OF DYNAMITE (aka DUCK YOU SUCKER!), plus the addition of ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST!

Hello Vault Dwellers, and welcome to yet another edition of our world famous (not really) Stock Your Vault column! This week is a bit on the light side, but as always there are definitely a few titles you'll want to add to your growing personal collections!

MVD Rewind Collection kicks things off with their new Blu-ray releases of the animated classic THE POINT! and the psychological thriller MIND GAMES, Well Go USA released the martial arts epic WARRIORS OF THE NATION, and Scorpion Releasing just debuted the forgotten romantic comedy BEYOND THERAPY!

Mondo Macabro released DANGEROUS CARGO (making it's North American Blu-ray debut), SRS Cinema brings indie Horror anthology NECROLOGIES to Blu-ray disc, Panos Costmatos' MANDY gets a surprise steelbook release, and season one of the latest incarnation of THE TWILIGHT ZONE arrives on both DVD & Blu-ray!

Kino Lorber comes on strong this week with new Blus of THE DAY OF THE DOLPHIN and LIGHT AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD, but I'm giving this week to Scream Factory for their latest Hammer titles: RASPUTIN - THE MAD MONK and X... THE UNKNOWN! RASPUTIN offers up the film in two different aspect ratios, and comes with a good number of extras, while X... THE UNKNOWN boasts a new 2K restoration and audio commentary!

Welcome to the second Tuesday of October 2019 Vault Dwellers! This week's release slate is decent, but is mostly populated by an insane number of double-feature DVDs from Frolic Pictures!

Modern Horror favorites ANNABELLE COMES HOME and MIDSOMMAR are now out on DVD & Blu-ray, as is the  Holiday "Zombedy" Musical ANNA AND THE APOCALYPSE, plus Paramount has just released a 4K Ultra HD double feature of Jordan Peele's US & GET OUT.

Cult Epics put out a Limited Edition Blu-ray set of NEKROMANTIK 1 & 2, Warner Archive debuts SHAZAM!: THE COMPLETE LIVE-ACTION SERIES on Blu-ray disc, Arrow Video gives Stanley Brasloff's obscure TOYS ARE NOT FOR CHILDREN a fantastic Blu-ray release, and Well Go USA brings Andrew Lau's KUNG FU MONSTER to North American collectors!

Kino Lorber rules the roost this week, with a trio of new Blu-ray titles. BABY BLOOD (aka THE EVIL WITHIN) is a gory French shocker featuring a bloodthirsty creature that is gestating within a host's womb, HERCULES IN THE HAUNTED WORLD has the heroic demigod visiting the realm of Hades to save the woman he loves in this Mario Bava classic, and MY BOYFRIEND'S BACK is a silly romantic comedy featuring a kid coming back from the dead to take his girlfriend to the prom! Both BABY BLOOD and HERCULES have new 2K transfers, and all three titles come with new extras (e.g. THREE different cuts of Bava's sword  & sandal epic)!

The Hunt Begins for KUNG FU MONSTER on October 8th!

WELL GO USA BRINGS ANDREW LAU'S MARTIAL ARTS FANTASY TO BLU-RAY DISC ON OCTOBER 8TH!

When I was reading about this movie, I kept saying to myself... "Who is Andrew Lau? Do they mean Andy Lau?! Has he gone through the same career metamorphosis as Lawrence (formerly Larry) Fishburne?!" Sadly no. Still, Andrew Lau is an accomplished Director and Cinematographer, so his 2018 film should at the very least, look phenomenal! And I personally am down for watching this - I mean, where else will you see martial arts bounty hunters chasing after a gremlin / baby Yeti in ancient China?!

Synopsis: Director Andrew Lau (THE GUILLOTINES, the INFERNAL AFFAIRS TRILOGY) employs lavish special effects for the epic story of Ocean (Koo), an animal trainer in the Ming Dynasty, who releases a gentle, gremlin-like ball of fur he names Lucky into the world after he witnesses its mistreatment by Crane, an evil eunuch. This infuriates Crane, who immediately puts a huge bounty on both Ocean and Lucky's heads.

From all corners of China, bounty hunters with the most diverse backgrounds and masters of the martial arts sign up for the hunt. What they are unaware of though, is that Lucky is harmless -- as long as he's happy … KUNG FU MONSTER also stars Zhou Dongyu (THE THOUSAND FACES OF DUNJIA), Haden Kuo (TINY TIMES trilogy), Cheney Chen (THE GREAT WALL), and Bao Bei'er (ZHONG KUI: SNOW GIRL AND THE DARK CRYSTAL).

Greetings Vault Dwellers! Summer is in full swing and with it brings various distractions, including VACATION (all I ever wan-ted!). For that reason updates will be sporadic, or downright non-existent,for the next two weeks! But until I venture off to parts unknown, let's take a look at this week's mouthwatering lineup of new releases on DVD and Blu-ray!

Well Go USA brings MOJIN: THE WORM VALLEY to DVD & Blu-ray disc, the remake of PET SEMATARY comes to all formats by itself, and with the 1989 original, both HULK and WATERWORLD make their 4K UHD debuts,  and the entire series of GOTHAM makes its way to DVD & Blu-ray! Now on to the really good stuff!

Scream Factory dropped their Collector's Edition Blu of SILENT HILL, as well as the sci-fi classic THIS ISLAND EARTH, while Kino Lorber Studio Classics bombards us with five new titles, including: ALPHAVILLE, THE CHAMPAGNE MURDERS, DEAD OF NIGHT, THE ANNIHILATORS, and TUFF TURF!

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

Welcome Vault Dwellers to the final Stock Your Vault post of June 2019! Though there isn't a huge number of new titles out today, the quality certainly makes up for the quantity as all of our favorite genre labels cap the month off with some fantastic new releases!

Arrow Video hits us with a one-two punch of DOUBLE FACE and their Limited Edition AMERICAN HORROR PROJECT: VOLUME 2 boxed set, which contains DARK AUGUST, DREAM NO EVIL, and THE CHILD, while Garagehouse Pictures drops their latest obscurity onto Blu-ray disc, namely FOES.

Unearthed Films finally brings THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON to Blu-ray disc, and Blue Underground impresses with their new 3-Disc Limited Edition of THE NEW YORK RIPPER. Meanwhile, Kino Lorber unleashes a sortie of new titles to their catalog, including THE WILD HEART / GONE TO EARTH, DIVORCED DAD, David Lynch's LOST HIGHWAY, and MIDNIGHT LACE.

But Severin Films and Scream Factory are the big winners this week (at least in my eyes), with each boasting a trio of crazy new titles! Severin brings THE BEAST IN HEAT, NIGHT KILLER, and ROBOWAR (with soundtrack CD!) to both DVD & Blu-ray disc! Not to be outdone, Scream Factory fires back with MONSTER ON THE CAMPUS, and Collector's Editions of Eli Roth's THE GREEN INFERNO, and Fred Dekker's beloved sci-fi/horror classic NIGHT OF THE CREEPS!

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

Sorry this Stock Your Vault post is a bit late Vault Dwellers! The first week of November 2018 is starting out light, though there's a crazy amount of new steelbook releases this week, along with a good number of new 4K UHD discs, and direct-to-DVD titles.

Code Red DVD just released a new Blu-ray of Pupi Avati's REVENGE OF THE DEAD that contains the shorter cut of the film, Well Go USA delivered two Limited Edition Steelbooks for PHANTASM: REMASTERED and TRAIN TO BUSAN, and the final(?) SHARKNADO sequel is now out on DVD & Blu-ray, as is a complete SHARKNADO COLLECTION which comes in collectible Steelbook packaging!

PHANTASM (LIMITED EDITION STEELBOOK)

Synopsis: PHANTASM presents Mike, Jody, Reggie, and the Tall Man as they've never been seen before. For the first time in high-definition, follow the trio in the remastered original classic that started it all, in which two brothers discover their local mortuary hides a legion of hooded killer dwarfs, a flying drill-ball, and the demonic mortician who enslaves the souls of the damned.

Note: This seems to just be a repackage of the previously released PHANTASM: REMASTERED Blu-ray from Well Go USA, but I cannot confirm that at this time.

Aside from the new artwork and steelbook packaging, all that's new here is the 2017 4K transfer of the film (that's been ported over from the Arrow UK Blu-ray release I believe), which now means that THIS is currently the definitive release of Carpenter's THE THING. Expect to pay $29 - $35 for this bad boy (until it goes out of print), which is apparently only available to purchase from AMAZON and SHOUT! FACTORY.

TRAIN TO BUSAN (LIMITED EDITION STEELBOOK)

Synopsis: When a mysterious virus breaks out across the country, the infected turn into the murderous undead. A few terrified travelers find themselves trapped on a bullet train from hell, fighting for their lives as hordes of the living dead crash towards them, crawling closer with every stop. Suspicion is rife and tensions run high as some will do anything to survive and make it to the safe zone.
