New Christmas-Themed Horror Anthology HOLIDAY HELL is Now Streaming on Tubi TV!

Official poster art for HOLIDAY HELL!
THIS NEW INDIE HORROR ANTHOLOGY FROM UNCORK'D ENTERTAINMENT PROVES THAT THE HOLIDAYS CAN TRULY BE HELL!

Holiday-themed horror anthologies seem to have grown in popularity in recent years: We've gotten Michael Dougherty's TRICK R' TREAT, 10/31, HOLIDAYS, TALES OF HALLOWEEN, and A CHRISTMAS HORROR STORY. And now we can add HOLIDAY HELL to that ever-growing list!

I've always been a big fan of Horror anthologies - the better ones give you at least two or three really good segments, and make you feel like you're getting more bang for your buck! So naturally I'm totally down for watching HOLIDAY HELL, which is currently making appearances at select theaters across the U.S. (As of my posting this, it will be playing November 1st - 7th at The Grand Illusion Cinema in Seattle, Washington!) But if seeing it on the big screen isn't a priority, you can in fact watch it for FREE over at TUBI TV right this very minute! If you're on the fence about giving HOLIDAY HELL a look, check out the synopsis, stills, and trailer below to see if this holiday-themed anthology is right for you!

Synopsis: On Christmas Eve, a woman enters a curiosity shop looking for a last-minute gift. There, she meets a mysterious shopkeeper who tells her the horrific stories behind four objects in the shop. As he weaves tales of killer dolls, witches, and psycho Santas, the woman senses she might be in danger. She has until midnight to choose her gift, but will she choose wisely?

Starring horror icon Jeffrey Combs (RE-ANIMATOR, FROM BEYOND), Joel Murray (HATCHET), Jeff Bryan Davis (KILLER PAD), Lisa Coronado (Twin Peaks), and Meagan Karimi-Naser (DEAD WEST), the frighteningly-festive horror anthology features segments directed by Jeff Ferrell (GHOSTLIGHT), Jeremy Berg (THE INVOKING), Jeff Vigil, and David Burns!

Jeffrey Combs guest stars in HOLIDAY HELL!

HOLIDAY HELL - It's like a Jewier version of Puppet Master.

Someone is about to get stabbed in HOLIDAY HELL.

If you're not careful, this little guy might snip your tip!

When sore throat pain hits.

Once again, HOLIDAY HELL is playing theatrically in select theaters throughout November, and is available to watch on TUBI for absolutely free! However, if you'd prefer to own a copy, you can get the digital and DVD release of HOLIDAY HELL on November 5th!

THE KILLER OF DOLLS and WOMAN CHASING THE BUTTERFLY OF DEATH Now Available on Blu-ray Disc!

Blu-ray artwork for Mondo Macabro's THE KILLER OF DOLLS!
MONDO MACABRO BRINGS TWO OBSCURE HORROR TITLES HAILING FROM SPAIN AND SOUTH KOREA, TO REGION FREE BLU-RAY DISC!

Leave it to Mondo Macabro to release some truly oddball stuff to Blu-ray! I've never even heard of either THE KILLER OF DOLLS or WOMAN CHASING THE BUTTERFLY OF DEATH, but they both sound completely crazy - in the best ways possible of course!

THE KILLER OF DOLLS is a Spanish Horror film from 1975 that sure sounds like it has elements of Italy's giallo cinema. The film follows a disgraced medical student, who is caught up in a series of murders involving a killer that wears a doll's mask! The Korean WOMAN CHASING THE BUTTERFLY OF DEATH features a student that frequently dodges death and runs afoul of some ghosts! Both discs are loaded with extras, and feature new HD remasters of each film - continue reading to get all the details!

THE KILLER OF DOLLS (1975)

Synopsis: In this bizarre and totally unique piece of Spanish horror, David Rocha plays Paul, a young man thrown out of medical school due to his inability to deal with the sight of blood. He goes home to Montpellier in France where his father is gardener on a huge estate belonging to Countess Olivia (played by Helga Liné, ageless diva of Spanish horror). We soon discover that fear of blood is not Paul's only quirk: He was raised as a girl after his sister died and likes to play with dolls, performing strange operations on them, attempting to extract their hearts.

Meanwhile, in the park surrounding the Countesses' home, a number of young girls have been found murdered. The killer seems to be a mysterious individual wearing a black wig, a white doll mask, and speaks with a woman's voice. As the killings multiply around him, Paul sinks ever deeper into a world of hallucination and nightmare.

Released here for the first time ever on Blu-ray and in its US premier, THE KILLER OF DOLLS is an original and unforgettable film that will be treasured by all who like their horror weird and unsettling.

Blu-ray cover for Mondo Macabro's WOMAN CHASIN THE BUTTERFLY OF DEATH Blu-ray!
WOMAN CHASING THE BUTTERFLY OF DEATH (1978)

Synopsis: Like a kind of crazy cinematic ghost train ride, WOMAN CHASING THE BUTTERFLY OF DEATH takes us on a journey deep into the darkness of one man's fears and fantasies. That man is Young-gul, a lonely and rather morbid student in late 1970's South Korea. Narrowly surviving a murder-suicide attempt by a woman wearing a butterfly pendant, he next finds himself besieged by a seemingly insane bookseller who claims he can never die.

Even after Young-gul burns the man's body his skeleton comes back to taunt him. As if that weren't enough, the poor student then finds himself the victim of a beautiful thousand year old woman (she looks about 25) who says she is hungry and want to eat his liver….

The director, Kim Ki-young, was one of Korea's most successful film makers. His 1960 production THE HOUSEMAID is now a recognized classic of world cinema. With this film he goes far beyond the bounds of the real and takes us into a world where anything seems possible, a world where a kind of dream logic rules. Almost impossible to summarize, the film is nevertheless insanely enjoyable. A real one of a kind production that opens our eyes to the limitless possibilities of cinema.

HAUNTED HOUSES AND EVIL SPIRITS INHABIT ARROW VIDEO'S TWO NEWEST SPECIAL EDITION BLU-RAY TITLES!

I've been meaning to watch CRIMSON PEAK for some time, but just haven't gotten around to seeing del Toro's tale of Gothic romance. (Ditto for his Oscar-winning film THE SHAPE OF WATER! Ack! If either title sounds enticing, then continue reading to learn more about each release and where you can purchase them!

CRIMSON PEAK (SPECIAL EDITION - 2015)

Beginning in Buffalo, New York, during the 1880s, CRIMSON PEAK stars Mia Wasikowska (ALICE IN WONDERLAND, STOKER) as Edith Cushing, an aspiring writer who is haunted by the death of her mother. Edith falls in love with seductive stranger Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston - THOR, THE AVENGERS), who whisks her off to Allerdale Hall, his baronial, yet dilapidated English mansion built upon a mountain of blood-red clay. Here Edith meets Lucille (Jessica Chastain - ZERO DARK THIRTY), Thomas' sister who at times seems hostile and jealous. As Edith struggles to feel at home in the imposing residence, she gradually uncovers a horrendous family secret and encounters supernatural forces that will help her discover the terrible truth behind CRIMSON PEAK.

COVERGIRL and TALKING WALLS Come to Blu-ray on October 22nd from Scorpion Releasing!

Blu-ray cover art for Scorpion Releasing's COVERGIRL!
SCORPION RELEASING'S TWO LATEST TITLES FEATURE A FASHION MODEL'S METEORIC RISE TO FAME AND A VOYEURISTIC COLLEGE STUDENT WORKING ON HIS  THESIS!

Though they are labeled as Dramas, both COVERGIRL and TALKING WALLS both definitely seem to have some elements of exploitation cinema (especially the latter film). At the very least, both films seem to have some cult appeal. COVERGIRL involves a model's rise to the top, with the help of a wealthy entrepreneur who attempts to control every aspect of her life. (Has kind of a Brigitte Bardot and Roger Vadim vibe, no?)

TALKING WALLS focuses on a college student who's master thesis is on "Intimacy and Human Relationship," and apparently the only way he can successfully obtain enough data for his paper is to secretly film peoples' more ahm.... intimate moments. Both films have been remastered in 2K and will be distributed by Kino Lorber - continue reading for more details!

COVERGIRL (1984)

Synopsis: Splashed with high-fashion glamour, romance and fantasies-come-true, COVERGIRL tells the story of one girl’s meteoric rise to superstar model – and the man who makes it all happen. COVERGIRL also depicts, the heartaches and struggles involved in the climb to success the result is a provocative insight into the world of beauty and fashion.

Behind-the-scenes of New York’s racy world of high fashion and glamour, Kit Paget (Irena Ferris - TV’s Cover Up), a New York model who is cynical of ever reaching the top, meets T. C. Sloane (Jeff Conaway - GREASE and TV's Taxi), a video and computer whiz entrepreneur, whose visions bring the magic of COVERGIRL to life. Directed by Jean-Claude Lord (THE VINDICATOR) and co-starring Kenneth Walsh (THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW).

Blu-ray cover for Scorpion Releasing's TALKING WALLS.
TALKING WALLS (1987)

Synopsis: Like any red-blooded American male, Paul Barton (Stephen Snellen - THE STEPFATHER) lives for romance and intimacy. But in his desire to find the key to a lasting relationship, Barton carries voyeurism to the point of obsession and beyond. Armed with state-of-the-art equipment, Barton begins a very unusual college research project. Determined to find the source of true passion, he knocks a hole in the wall of his motel room and begins taping the intimate moments in the adjoining room.

But his passionate research does not stop there. Soon, the entire motel is under his watchful eye. His research yields some very interesting and steamy findings. Findings about love, his college professor, himself and Jeanne (Marie Lauryn - CREATURE), the girl of his dreams. TALKING WALLS is a high-tech, high-octane drama where temperatures rise, sparks fly and where morality is thrown out the window. Directed by Stephen Verona (THE LORDS OF FLATBUSH) with a top-notch cast that includes Sybil Dinning (CHAINED HEAT), Sally Kirkland (ANNA), Barry Primus (NIGHT GAMES), June Wilkinson (MACUMBA LOVE) and Don Calfa (THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD).

Sacrifices Must Be Made: SATANIC PANIC Arrives on DVD & Blu-ray on October 22nd!

Bluray cover for Chelsea Stardust's SATANIC PANIC!
THE "SATANIC PANIC" OF THE 80S SEES A RESURGENCE IN THIS NEW HORROR-COMEDY PENNED BY GRADY HENDRIX AND DIRECTED BY CHELSEA STARDUST!

In my youth I was told stories of  Devil-related kidnappings, animal (and child) sacrifices, and rituals by my parents and siblings - probably in an effort to scare me away from talking to strangers. That's about the largest affect the "Satanic Panic" had on my life. And it wasn't until my mid-to-late teens that I finally got to dip my toe into the films from that era like THE EXORCIST (and its sequels), THE CAR, RACE WITH THE DEVIL, THE OMEN films, WEREWOLVES ON WHEELS, and THE DEVIL'S RAIN (just to name a few)! What's funny is that the (completely unwarranted) fear of Satanic worship never really went away, and still inspires new books (by authors like Grady Hendrix) and films to this very day, like the aptly-titled SATANIC PANIC!

Synopsis: Sam Craft (Hayley Griffith) is a pizza delivery girl at the end of her financial rope that has to fight for her life - and her tips - when her last order of the night turns out to be high society Satanists in need of a virgin sacrifice!

Disc Specs:
Unrated | Color | 88 minutes | Region A
Video - 1080p Widescreen (1.85:1)
Audio - English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1

Extras:
  • The Making of Satanic Panic featurette.  (6:29)
  • Sam & Judi featurette. (5:00)
  • Girl Power featurette. (3:26)
  • Bonus Trailers
SATANIC PANIC arrives on Blu-ray (and DVD) on Tuesday, October 22nd, and should cost between $15 - $20! Order a copy today from AMAZON, BULL MOOSE, or DIABOLIK DVD!

Ringo Starr Narrates THE POINT: Coming to Blu-ray in February 2020!

Cover art for MVD Rewind's Upcoming Blu-ray of THE POINT.
THE CLASSIC ANIMATED FEATURE GETS A SECOND LIFE ON BLU-RAY ON ITS 50TH ANNIVERSARY THANKS TO MVD REWIND COLLECTION!

While I have seen some great animated features like FIRE & ICE, WIZARDS, and HEAVY METAL, stuff like Fred Wolf's THE POINT passed me by. After airing on television in 1971 (narrated by Dustin Hoffman), the film did get a release on VHS & Laserdisc (where it was narrated by Ringo Starr), and showed up on cable (narrated by Alan Thicke on The Disney Channel) before fading into obscurity. But apparently THE POINT has garnered somewhat of a cult following over the decades, which prompted MVD to seek out a print in order to create a Blu-ray release.

While a search for the 35mm negative came up empty, the folks at MVD did manage to track down a 16mm print and strike the best 2K restoration they could muster from the materials made available to them. Fans of classic animation and people that actually saw this on TV in their youth will definitely want to check this out!

Synopsis: Years ago there was a place called The Land of the Point, because everything in The Land of the Point had one - the barns, the houses, the cars, everything - even the people. Everyone, that is, except Oblio (Mike Lookinland - The Brady Bunch), who was born round-headed. Since he had no point, Oblio - along with his trusty dog, Arrow - was banished to the Pointless Forest. Join them to see what wonders await these two intrepid travelers as they make their way on their amazing, song-filled journey of discovery!

THE POINT is based upon the album of the same name by Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter Harry Nilsson. According to Nilsson himself, "I looked at the trees and realized all the leaves came to points and even the branches came to points. I thought, 'Oh! Everything has a point, and even if it doesn't, there's a point to it.'"

Produced in 1970, the animated film version of THE POINT first aired February 2, 1971, as an ABC Movie of the Week. The film was directed by Academy Award winner Fred Wolf and produced by Murakami-Wolf Films in association with Nilsson House Music. Complete with story and songs written by Nilsson, and narration by Ringo Starr (CAVEMAN), THE POINT is a timeless enchanting fable for the whole family to enjoy!

Disc Specs:
Not Rated | Color | 74 minutes | Region A
Video - 1080p Fullscreen (1.37:1)
Audio - English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 & LPCM 2.0

Extras:
  • NEW! 2K REMASTER FROM 16MM ELEMENTS IN THE ORIGINAL 1.37:1 ASPECT RATIO!
  • NEW! The Kid's Got a Point - An Interview with Mike Lookinland! (HD, 17:13)
  • NEW! That Old Guy Wrote The Point - A Conversation with Screenwriter Norm Lenzer! (HD, 15:01)
  • NEW! Everybody's Got a Point - Kiefo Nilsson and Bobby Halvorson on Adapting "The Point!" (HD, 15:50)
  • NEW! Nilsson on Screen - Biographer Alyn Shipton and Friends on Harry Nilsson's Film Projects & Appearances! (HD, 1:01:13)
  • The Making of The Point: Four-part featurette including - Who Is Harry Nilsson?, Pitching The Point, Making The Point, and Legacy of the Point! (SD, 26:40)
  • Collectible Mini-Poster!
MVD Rewind Collection's 50th Anniversary Ultimate Edition of THE POINT arrives on Blu-ray (and digital) on Tuesday, February 11, 2020! While the transfer might look a little rough, this is easily going to be the best THE POINT has ever looked or sounded before! And with over two hours of (mostly) new extras, the (current) $30 pricetag doesn't really seem all that bad! THE POINT is currently only available to order on AMAZON but will likely pop up on BULL MOOSE (and possibly DIABOLIK DVD) as the release date nears!

JOHN NEWLAND'S MADE-FOR-TV HORROR CLASSIC DEBUTS ON BLU-RAY WITH A NEW 4K REMASTER AND AUDIO COMMENTARY!

Confession time Vault Dwellers: I've never seen DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK (though I have seen its remake)! Granted this movie aired on television ten years before I existed, and has a history of going in and out of print on a pretty regular basis, but damn it I should have seen it by now!

All of the elements that make a horror movie memorably chilling get a taut, spooky reworking in DON'T BE AFRAID FO THE DARK. Kim Darby (TRUE GRIT) and Jim Hutton (THE GREEN BERETS) star as Sally and Alex, young marrieds who inherit a crumbling mansion. Despite warnings to leave well enough alone in her new home, Sally unlocks the mysterious room, opens a bricked-up fireplace, and unleashes a horde of hideous, whispering, murderous, miniature demons only she can see and hear! This is the original TV movie that inspired the 2010 theatrical remake starring Katie Holmes and Guy Pearce.

Disc Specs:
Not Rated | Color | 74 minutes | Region A
