STOCK YOUR VAULT: New DVDs & Blu-rays for 06/25/2019!

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

Welcome Vault Dwellers to the final Stock Your Vault post of June 2019! Though there isn't a huge number of new titles out today, the quality certainly makes up for the quantity as all of our favorite genre labels cap the month off with some fantastic new releases!

Arrow Video hits us with a one-two punch of DOUBLE FACE and their Limited Edition AMERICAN HORROR PROJECT: VOLUME 2 boxed set, which contains DARK AUGUST, DREAM NO EVIL, and THE CHILD, while Garagehouse Pictures drops their latest obscurity onto Blu-ray disc, namely FOES.

Unearthed Films finally brings THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON to Blu-ray disc, and Blue Underground impresses with their new 3-Disc Limited Edition of THE NEW YORK RIPPER. Meanwhile, Kino Lorber unleashes a sortie of new titles to their catalog, including THE WILD HEART / GONE TO EARTH, DIVORCED DAD, David Lynch's LOST HIGHWAY, and MIDNIGHT LACE.

But Severin Films and Scream Factory are the big winners this week (at least in my eyes), with each boasting a trio of crazy new titles! Severin brings THE BEAST IN HEAT, NIGHT KILLER, and ROBOWAR (with soundtrack CD!) to both DVD & Blu-ray disc! Not to be outdone, Scream Factory fires back with MONSTER ON THE CAMPUS, and Collector's Editions of Eli Roth's THE GREEN INFERNO, and Fred Dekker's beloved sci-fi/horror classic NIGHT OF THE CREEPS!

A Bloody Jazz & Rock Rumble! - Classic "B-Movie" Soundtrack LPs are Coming in August!

MODERN HARMONIC AND SOMETHING WEIRD VIDEO TO RELEASE "DATE BAIT" & "HIGH SCHOOL CAESAR" VINYLS!

With the revitalization of vinyl records, I guess it was only a matter of time before somebody dredged up some tunes from cautionary tales of teenage rebellion! On August 23rd, 2019, Modern Harmonic (teaming with Something Weird Video) is releasing the soundtracks to DATE BAIT and HIGH SCHOOL CAESAR! So if you're a fan of movies about the dangers of teenage angst, and you also happen to collect records, then these two highly collectible LPs will be right up your alley!

DATE BAIT (1960)

Soundtrack Info: Nicholas Carras’ powerhouse score for this angst-filled flick is a tapestry of sounds from fast, jazzy pieces, dark and suspenseful moments, breezy traveling music, and the optimistic ending. The soundtrack also features the earworm of a title cut that will have you pappa do do wah-ing along.

Details:
  • First ever LP release of this rock & jazz soundtrack!
  • Includes a DVD of the entire film plus bonus goodies including a cut to sync with your LP!
  • Includes a zine style insert with liners and photos!
  • Cut by Kevin Gray at Cohearent audio and pressed at Third Man in Detroit!
  • INCLUDES: "Date Bait Baby" by Reggie Perkins and a mad barrage of beatnik bongo jazz & rock from the Nicholas Carras Soundtrack Collection!
Film Synopsis: (From Wikipedia) Two confused teenagers are in love and want to get hitched, but their uptight parents say "no way!" The couple finds themselves on the sleazy side of town, where they are victimized by the new bride's hoodlum ex-boyfriend and his psychotic drug-addicted brother! The teens must also contend with other assorted criminals, including drug dealers and mobsters!

The DATE BAIT LP comes with everything seen here!

HIGH SCHOOL CAESAR (1960)

Soundtrack Info: The true star of HIGH SCHOOL CAESAR is its dark and tense compositions, and wild, bongo-driven percussion of the Nicholas Carras score! This soundtrack collects three rare, blistering rockers featured in the film, and delinquent lines of dialog from the harrowing tale along with the prime cuts of the score!

  • INCLUDES: "High School Caesar" by Reggie Perkins,  "I Fell For Your Line Baby" by Johnny Faire, "Lookin' Waitin' Searchin' Hopin'" by Reggie Olson, and a mad barrage of beatnik bongo jazz & rock from the Nicholas Carras Soundtrack Collection!
Film Synopsis: (From IMDB) Matt Stevens is the big man at high school. He sweats the students for protection money, acquires copies of tests for a fee, and has rigged the votes so he can beat Kelly in the election for student president. Aside from his anointed acolytes, Matt is almost universally despised. His parents are obscenely rich and spend their time traveling in Europe rather than giving him the parental guidance he needs. Things begin to get ugly when some of the teens resist his power and show Matt up at a drag race.

As stated earlier, these two LPs from the glorious power triad of Modern Harmonic, Something Weird Video, and the Nicholas Carras estate, will be available on August 23rd! Both releases are priced at $24.98, and will be available through Modern Harmonic's website and Amazon.com! I think this is a really cool and unique idea, and here's hoping that these releases gather an audience so we get more b-movie records in the future! Speaking of which, also be on the lookout for LP/DVD releases for two more Something Weird oddities/obscurities, namely SPACE THING and MR. PETER'S PETS!

Ice-T is Haunted by CLINTON ROAD - Now in Select Theaters and Available on Demand!

NEW JERSEY'S LEGENDARY "CLINTON ROAD" CLAIMS VICTIMS IN THIS NEW SUPERNATURAL THRILLER!

Clinton Road has earned itself quite the reputation over the decades as a hotspot for paranormal occurrences, Satanic rituals, and multiple sightings of ghosts and strange creatures. (And as an added bonus, it's rumored to be a dumping ground for murder victims!) Though much of the legends surrounding this desolate stretch of road are the products of overactive imaginations, it's not surprising that it has inspired someone to shoot a film based upon this spooky locale!

Synopsis: When a firefighter's wife mysteriously goes missing on an actual haunted road in rural New Jersey, he and his sister in law seek closure by employing a Haitian witch doctor to contact her spirit but are hunted by the entities of past victims looking to leave purgatory by collecting fresh souls.

CLINTON ROAD was scripted by Derek Ross Mackay, directed by Steve Stanulis and Richard Grieco, and stars internationally acclaimed musician and actor Ice-T (NEW JACK CITY, Law & Order: SVU, BLOODRUNNERS), James DeBello (CABIN FEVER, DETROIT ROCK CITY), Vincent Pastore (The Sopranos, GOODFELLAS), and Erin O'Brien (PERNICIOUS, KILLING JOAN).

Ace Young (Bones), Katie Morrison (The Blacklist), Bo Dietl (Vinyl), and Oscar Nominee Eric Roberts also star. Grieco, Noel Ashman and Steve Stanulis produce.

Stills, Clip, & Trailer:
(Click on images to enlarge them.)

CLINTON ROAD is currently playing in select theaters (visit Fandango to see if it's playing near you!) and available on various Video On Demand services (including Amazon Instant Video). A DVD release in the near future is likely, but has yet to be announced! For more details, visit the official CLINTON ROAD Facebook page!

Umbrella Entertainment's June 2019 New Releases!

MULLETED MARTIAL ARTISTS, NORWEGIAN METAL BANDS, AND REFORM SCHOOL GIRLS POPULATE UMBRELLA'S JUNE SLATE!

Before I start showcasing Umbrella's newest titles, I'd like to list off their May releases that I failed to report on last month, which included: ARCTIC, THE RARE BREED, CASH & COMPANY / TANDARRA, SIDECAR RACERS (Ozploitation Classics), KRULL (featured in its original aspect ratio for the first time!), and STEAMBOY. Moving on then....

As of June 5th, our friends at Umbrella Entertainment unleashed the full fury of Jason Blade in Brian Trenchard-Smith's double feature of DAY OF THE PANTHER & STRIKE OF THE PANTHER! Also available from Umbrella this month: METROPOLIS (which is based upon Osamu Tezuka's comic of the same name), Universal's THE BLACK CAT (featuring Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi!), LORDS OF CHAOS the "Story of True Norwegian Black Metal," and Tom DeSimone's REFORM SCHOOL GIRLS!

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
* On July 3rd, Umbrella is releasing two new awesome trailer compilations: DRIVE-IN DELIRIUM: DEAD BY DAWN and DRIVE-IN DELIRIUM: WITH A VENGEANCE! DEAD BY DAWN focuses on Horror and T&A flicks while the other volume is all about Action and Sci-Fi!

* Also available on July 3rd is GOODBYE PARADISE. Part of Umbrella's continuing Ozploitation Classics line, this detective thriller follows a cynical ex-cop that is searching for a politician's missing daughter amidst the backdrop of political corruption and murder!

* On July 8th, Umbrella releases Jackie Chan's WHO AM I? to Blu-ray disc! This film features an amnestic Chan trying to regain his memory and take down a double agent.

DAY OF THE PANTHER & STRIKE OF THE PANTHER (1988)

Synopsis: Get ready for an Ozploitation double-bill like you’ve never seen before! Shot on location in Hong Kong and Australia, DAY OF THE PANTHER and its sequel, STRIKE OF THE PANTHER, explode from the screen in a flurry of bloody fists, spiked bats, nunchucks and mullets! Packed with dangerous stunts and muscle cars smoking it up on suburban Perth streets, DAY and STRIKE are a double-bill of rarely seen Ozploitation mayhem that will leave you gasping to rewind and check what you have just seen.

Starring Australian screen icons, John Stanton, Rowena Wallace and Michael Carman, Umbrella Entertainment have dug deep into the vaults of Australian cult cinema to unearth this indie assault, filmed back-to-back in Australia's bicentennial year of 1988.
Directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith (THE MAN FROM HONG KONG, FROG DREAMING), these long forgotten Australian action gems have been resurrected and scanned in 4K from their original 35mm interpositive elements. For the first time, these cult time-capsules have been remastered in HD and presented in their original aspect ratios.

THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT (2018)

Synopsis: USA in the 1970s. We follow the highly intelligent Jack through 5 incidents and are introduced to the murders that define Jack's development as a serial killer. We experience the story from Jack's point of view. He views each murder as an artwork in itself, even though his dysfunction gives him problems in the outside world. Despite the fact that the final and inevitable police intervention is drawing ever near, which provokes and puts pressure on Jack, he is - contrary to all logic - set on taking greater and greater chances.

Along the way we experience Jack's descriptions of his personal condition, problems and thoughts through a recurring conversation with the unknown Verge - a grotesque mixture of sophistry mixed with an almost childlike self-pity and in-depth explanations of, for Jack, dangerous and difficult maneuvers.

They begin burning down churches and stealing tombstones for their record store. Jenny Williams, a young first-time offender, learns hard and fast that the rules of the outside world don’t apply at this reform school. Warden Sutter (Sybil Danning) rules with an iron fist. Edna (Pat Ast), dictates sadistic order and Charlie (Wendy O. Williams), the unofficial head of the cell-block, preys on the weak. At Pridemore, even “solitary” is preferable to the beating and sexual abuse that run rampant in the cell-blocks.

Do Jenny and her close-knit group of friends stand a chance in such brutal surrounding? Can they even hope to escape with their health and sanity? And will they live long enough to tell the horrible truth of Pridemore’s atrocities? The answers lie in the action-packed conclusion of REFORM SCHOOL GIRLS.

THE ENTITY (1983 - COLLECTOR'S EDITION)

Synopsis: Oscar-nominee Barbara Hershey (the INSIDIOUS series, BLACK SWAN) stars as Carla Moran, a hard-working single mother whose life becomes a nightmare when she is attacked in her bedroom by someone – or something – that she cannot see. Disbelieved by her friends and dismissed by skeptical psychiatrists, Carla begins to lose her grip as she is repeatedly attacked in her car, in the bath, and even in front of her children. Could this be a case of hysteria, a manifestation of childhood sexual trauma, or something even more horrific? Seeking help from a group of daring parapsychologists, Carla will attempt an unthinkable experiment: to seduce, trap and ultimately capture the depraved spectral fury that is THE ENTITY.

FRANKENSTEIN CREATED WOMAN (1967 - COLLECTOR'S EDITION)

Synopsis: She's a vision of loveliness ... with a murderous mission from beyond the grave!

In this "most conceptually wild and outrightly science-fictional of the Hammer Frankenstein films" (Moria Science Fiction, Horror and Fantasy Film Review), Baron Frankenstein (Peter Cushing) and Dr. Hertz (Thorley Walters) are embarking upon an experiment to capture the souls of the dead and impose them into other bodies. When their assistant, Hans (Robert Morris), is unjustly accused of murdering his girlfriend Christina's father and is himself put to death, the two men claim his body and trap his soul in their laboratory. Meanwhile, Christina (Susan Denberg) is consumed with grief over the death of her beloved Hans and commits suicide.

Frankenstein and Dr. Hertz are able to transfer Hans' soul into Christina's healed body, which results in a vision of beauty. Their experiment appears successful until Frankenstein discovers that Christina's seductive appetites are being driven by the spirit of Hans and his passion for revenge ...

LEPRECHAUN RETURNS to DVD & Blu-ray on June 11th!

THE LEPRECHAUN FRANCHISE CONTINUES IN THIS SYFY CHANNEL SEQUEL!

The LEPRECHAUN series has had a surprising longevity, and has never been afraid to drop its antagonist into the most batsh*t crazy scenarios possible. From Las Vegas, to Outer Space, and even "Tha' Hood" Warwick Davis' beloved Leprechaun has pretty much done it all!

A reboot of the series, LEPRECHAUN ORIGINS, was released in 2014 and replaced Warwick Davis with Dylan Postl (aka WWE's "Hornswoggle") - Needless to say, it failed to impress both critics and fans. And now, we've gotten to the EIGHTH film in the Leprechaun saga courtesy of the SyFy Channel. Directed by Astron-6's Steven Kostanski, LEPRECHAUN RETURNS features Mark Holton (Ozzie Jones from the original film!) plus a new actor (Linden Porco) under the Leprechaun makeup! While I'm bummed that Warwick Davis did not return to his iconic role, Kostanski's involvement intrigues me enough to check this one out!

Synopsis: The deadly, wisecracking Leprechaun is back in all his gory glory. When the sorority sisters of the Alpha Upsilon house decide to go green and use an old well as their water source, they unwittingly awaken a pint-sized, green-clad monster. The Leprechaun wants a pot of gold buried near the sorority house, but first he must recover his powers with a killing spree—and only the girls of AU can stop him.
