CLEOPATRA JONES, the "Hottest Super Agent Ever," Makes Her Blu-ray Debut!

I'm still kind of a virgin when it comes to Blaxploitation cinema, but CLEOPATRA JONES is definitely on my list of titles that I need to watch! And seeing as how its now available on Blu-ray, it is only a matter of time before CLEOPATRA JONES AND THE CASINO OF GOLD makes the leap to Blu as well!

Synopsis: A Turkish poppy field is torched -and a U.S. drug trafficker known as "Mommy" (Shelley Winters) is feeling pretty burned. She phones the local cops she owns and orders a retaliatory strike on an inner-city antidrug headquarters. Mommy's next call should be to 911. Because now she'll have to mess with Cleopatra Jones (Tamara Dobson).

Mommy is relentless in her vendetta – but Cleo responds with catlike karate stealth. (Bong So Hon, technical advisor on BILLY JACK, supervised the karate sequences.) Doodlebug, Pickle, Snake and more of Mommy's offbeat stooges add glide to the story's stride. Their antics, Mommy's chortling sleaziness and Cleo's class shape the power and pizzazz of CLEOPATRA JONES.

I haven't seen THE CRAFT in years but recall liking it enough to watch it repeatedly on cable back in the late 90s. (Might have had something to do with a few of the actresses in the film.) MAN'S BEST FRIEND is a guilty pleasure from the same era that I discovered on VHS when I was a kid. And naturally, I wouldn't mind adding both to my movie collection!

The Creators of HI-8 Are Upgrading to HI-DEATH This Summer!

I never got around to seeing HI-8: HORROR INDEPENDENT EIGHT (currently available on DVD and digital), which is a shame because I'm a sucker for Horror anthologies. And now it looks like I should put that on the fast track because the same creative team is about to drop their followup anthology, HI-DEATH, this June!

Synopsis: From the makers of “Hi-8”, five new twisted tales showcasing the talents of both veteran and emerging horror filmmakers. When two young women take the “Terror Tour” through the underbelly of Hollywood, they are led into a bizarre world of unspeakable horror. Their first stop proves that “Death Has a Conscience,” but doesn’t spare the unlucky souls who stumble into his path. Next, a meeting with the “Dealers of Death” exposes the perils of collecting murder memorabilia. Then, it’s off to a quick “Night Drop,” where your next movie rental may be your last. An actress’ worst nightmare unfolds as she is forced to perform a terrifying “Cold Read,” and our Terror Tour comes to a disturbing end as we meet the ancient, seductive evil known as “The Muse.”

The film is written and directed by Anthony Catanese, Tim Ritter, Amanda Payton, Brad Sykes and Todd Sheets. Cast includes Fabiana Formica, Jay Sosnicki, Todd Martin, Thomas Kindler, Jensen Jacobs, Craig Kelly, Nick Randol, Dilynn Fawn Harvey, Christopher Preyer, Eric Salinas, Kristen Adams and Kate Durocher.

I've been meaning to see THE CLOVEHITCH KILLER ever since I saw the trailer (seems like it'd make a kick-ass double feature with SUMMER OF '84!), and I'm willing to give WELCOME TO MERCY a shot as well. (Is it me or have IFC Midnight's offerings greatly improved over the past few years?) KALIFORNIA is a movie that's been on my radar for a while, but typically, I still haven't gotten around to seeing it yet. I suppose I'll have to pick up all of these new titles and give them all a whirl in the near future!

Synopsis: A shocking revelation turns a teenage boy’s world upside-down in this chilling look at the evil that can lurk below even the most wholesome surface.

Tyler Burnside (Charlie Plummer - ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD) is a Boy Scout, a volunteer at his local church, and the dutiful son of an upstanding, community leader dad (Dylan McDermott - American Horror Story). Only one thing troubles the quiet Kentucky town he lives in: the unsolved murders — in which ten women were brutally tortured and killed by a psychopath known as Clovehitch — that rocked the community more than a decade ago. When Tyler discovers a cache of disturbing images in his father's possession, he begins to suspect that the man he trusts most in the world may be Clovehitch … and that his deadly rampage may not be over. With unrelenting tension, director Duncan Skiles crafts a picture-perfect vision of the American family … and then rips it to shreds.

Vinegar Syndrome Ends February 2019 With Four Great New Releases!

I gotta say Vault Dwellers, Vinegar Syndrome has really upped their game in the past few years! More and more of their titles have found a home in my personal collection, and I doubt that trend is going to stop because their latest batch of new releases is pretty freakin' awesome! Let's take a closer look at the four new Blu-ray/DVD combo packs that VinSyn has just put out!

Synopses: In BATTLE FOR THE LOST PLANET rogue master thief Harry Trent (Matt Mitler) who, in an attempt to steal military secrets, found himself stranded alone in space for years, finally returns to earth only to discover that the planet has been taken over by vicious gangs of alien mutants. Finding himself forced into a fight for his life, Harry is soon discovered and taken in by a beautiful warrior (Denise Coward) and her resistance group who hope to outwit the extra terrestrial invaders and reclaim the planet.

MUTANT WAR continues the story, finding Harry still at odds with conquering aliens, but this time having to contend with an even deadlier enemy: another human. After meeting a young girl who begs him to help save her family, Harry learns of power hungry deviate Reinhart Rex, a futuristic white slaver that kidnaps young women for breeding purposes. Can Harry outwit Reinhart while still escaping the clutches of flesh eating mutants?

Two early features from celebrated sci-fi director and practical effects artist Brett Piper, BATTLE FOR THE LOST PLANET and MUTANT WAR are chock full of Ray Harryhausen inspired stop motion animation and epic no-budget battle sequences. Vinegar Syndrome presents these two nearly impossible to see rarities on disc for the first time anywhere in the world!

Synopsis: Brother and sister Seth and Stacy live a secluded life in their family's beautiful Beverly Hills mansion. But these upper class siblings share a dark and violent hobby of using sexually driven 'party lines' to meet and lure lustful strangers into a deadly ménage à trois, the climax of which is a razor slash to the throat! With the victim count steadily rising, Detective Dan is under the gun to crack the case, but when his girlfriend falls prey to the maniacal duo, Dan goes rogue, taking his own violent measures to dispense justice.

Juxtaposing a slasher film setup with police drama and erotic thriller plot points, William Webb's PARTY LINE is a forgotten oddity, bridging the late 80s slasher craze with the soon to rise early 90s 'skinemax' obsession. Starring Leif Garret (DEVIL TIMES FIVE), Shawn Weatherly (Baywatch), Richard Roundtree (SHAFT), and Richard Hatch (Battlestar Galactica) and stylishly photographed by renowned visual effects cinematographer, John Huneck (THE TERMINATOR).

But no sooner than arriving, her fantasies of glitz and glamour begin to get chipped away, as she learns that all of the things she's heard about LA's sleazy casting couches, lecherous producers, and perverted parties are…absolutely true! Will Mary Jo ever be able to fulfill her dream, as the world around her turns into an ever greater orgy of disappointment?

Director Carter Stevens' (ROLLERBABIES) only West Coast shot film, TINSELTOWN stars Tawny Pearl (TABOO), Eric Edwards, Rhonda Jo Petty (LITTLE ORPHAN DUSTY), Randy West, Pat Manning, Mike Ranger, Jennifer West, David Morris and Jake Teague, along with a memorable supporting performance from William Margold as grizzled talent agent, Morty Green.
