Another week means another stack of new discs to add to your collections Vault Dwellers! The release slate is pretty light with Kino Lorber ruling the roost with half-a-dozen new titles (several of which are making their debuts on 4K UHD), but there's a few other discs that may be of interest to you casual collectors and diehard curators of physical media! And if there isn't, well save your money because the next two weeks are packed!
MY PICK OF THE WEEK:DEATH SHIP (4K UHD) from Kino Lorber Studio Classics!
This 2-disc set boasts a new 4K restoration of the film's theatrical
cut (no such love for its extended version it would seem), plus a trio
of new audio commentaries from several "film historians." All of the
archival bonus features from previous releases seem to be included as
well!
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:
Mondo Macabro's new 4K UHD of BOHACHI BUSHIDO: CODE OF THE FORGOTTEN EIGHT (previously only available through their website) is here! Along with an all-new 4K restoration from an original film negative, the disc contains two audio commentaries, new and archival interviews, and a theatrical trailer! Note: The Blu-ray release of this title arrives in early July!
The Criterion Collection brings Monty Python's LIFE OF BRIAN to 4K for the first time ever with a new 4K restoration supervised by director Terry Gilliam! Extras on this release include two feature-length commentaries, the 2007 making-of documentary, deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes footage (shot on 8mm), and more! Also available on Blu-ray disc!
Obscure label Eclectic releases a 4K-restored 8mm double feature of David Markey's DESPERATE TEENAGE LOVEDOLLS and LOVEDOLLS SUPERSTAR! Bonus features include audio commentaries, deleted scenes & alternate takes, making-of featurette, trailers, and more!

Welcome! Welcome one and all to the first Stock Your Vault post since umm.... January?! Egads! Well in a (some would say a vain) attempt to get back into the swing of things, your friendly neighborhood Vault Master is here to share good tidings of new physical media releases on Blu-ray and 4K UHD! And this week is absolutely loaded with fantastic titles from all of your favorite boutique labels, so strap in and brace yourselves for pure awesome!
While there are a lot of Blu-ray and 4K titles to be excited for, I'd have to say the two most highly-anticipated ones are Toho's GODZILLA: MINUS ONE and Universal's 40th Anniversary release of THE TERMINATOR! The Oscar-winning MINUS ONE offers up a gorgeous 4K presentation with various audio tracks (including a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD English dub!), featurettes, and trailers. Even upon release day, I honestly still don't know if the bonus features have English subtitles - I guess I'll find out when I pick up a copy in the near future! Also, as of my posting this, it would seem that the Limited Edition Steelbook is completely OOP, which absolutely sucks, because it's the only way to get a copy of GODZILLA: MINUS ONE/MINUS COLOR.
THE TERMINATOR comes fully restored in 4K with a DolbyVision/HDR presentation of the film, plus a Dolby Atmos audio track option! The disc includes a handful of featurettes ported over from previous releases, as well as seven deleted scenes! I've read a few reviews about this disc and it is getting rave reviews for the quality of the restoration, so I do believe it is time for me to upgrade from my old Blu-ray disc!
Other releases worth noting are: Warner Bros.' 4K of BLAZING SADDLES, Shout! Studios' fantastically expensive 4K collector's sets of THE DARK CRYSTAL and LABYRINTH, Kino Lorber's 1,000 CONVICTS AND A WOMAN (which is #20 in their Kino Cult line), Universal's SPEAK NO EVIL (which is apparently a worthy remake of the bleak original), and Arrow Video's limited editions of TOMIE (which is part of their recent love affair with J-Horror films), and A SIMPLE PLAN.

Blue Underground added to the 4K flood with THE GIRL FROM RIO, Paramount (who seems to be vying to be the most popular studio with collectors) with their new 4K steelbook of HALLOWEEN H20, Arrow Video with CARLITO'S WAY, Criterion with MOONAGE DAYDREAM (starring David Bowie!), and Synapse Films with their standard edition of Argento's TENEBRAE.
Disney released season one of Marvel's above average LOKI TV series (also available on 4K), Strand Releasing unveiled their long-awaited "remixed and remastered" Blu of THE DOOM GENERATION, and Severin Films gave us DRACULA AND SON starring Christopher Lee!
With so many great titles out this week, I was hard-pressed to choose one to be my "pick of the week!" In the end I settled on Scream Factory's new 3-Disc 4K Collector's Edition of George Mihalka's Canadian slasher, MY BLOODY VALENTINE. While it is essentially a repackaging of the previous Collector's Edition Blu-ray, this release does feature an all new 4K restoration of the uncut version of the movie, plus new (but old) cover art!

Greetings fellow collectors! I am so sorry I've been away for so long! Between 50+ hours a week at the new(ish) job, Summer vacation, and getting my three-year old monster ready for pre-K, I've been far too busy to do much more than hide in the dark recesses of the web and obsess over the constant stream of new titles pouring forth from Kino Lorber, Arrow Video, Vinegar Syndrome, Scream Factory, and all of the other boutique labels!
There hasn't been a new Stock Your Vault post since Valentine's Day, so I guess it's only appropriate that I attempt to bring back this popular weekly column just in time for Scott Valentine's Day! (Ha!) Here's some of the physical media highlights you can expect on Tuesday, September 5th!
Kino Lorber Studio Classics brings the long sought after Barbarian Brothers comedy DOUBLE TROUBLE to Blu-ray for the first time (now we just need THINK BIG), while Sony Pictures debuts the bizarre family favorite MATILDA on 4K, as well as their fantastic sequel SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE, which is being released on both formats!
Criterion Collection adds the beloved 80s Fantasy classic THE PRINCESS BRIDE to their 4K catalog, Paramount polishes off their STAR TREK: PICARD series on Blu-ray disc and brings Tim Burton's great SLEEPY HOLLOW to 4K (in both standard and steelbook releases), and Second Sight Films drops a gorgeous limited edition 4K boxed set for David Robert Mitchell's haunting IT FOLLOWS! (Note: The 4K disc is region free - the Blu-ray is Region B locked.)
But this week I'm giving my tip of the hat to Scream Factory, not for their 4K Collector's Edition release of NIGHT OF THE COMET (which contains a new 4K restoration and the original theatrical poster artwork!), but for their new Blu-ray of MY DEMON LOVER! Along with a new 2K restoration plus interviews with the film's composer and editor, the disc also contains a new making-of documentary!

Hey fellow collectors! Between working a lot of overtime, traveling to another State for the holidays, and being laid up for a bit with the flu, I've fallen behind on my duties! But things have finally calmed down so here is the first STOCK YOUR VAULT post of 2023!
As is usually the case with the start of a new year there's not a lot of new titles coming out weekly to fill a post. so there will be fewer Stock Your Vault posts throughout January. But by February, the release slate will start to beef up again, and oh boy is there ever a lot of cool stuff coming down the pipe!
Universal dropped their intensely debated trilogy capper HALLOWEEN ENDS (alone and in a 3-film collection), VCI brought the classic Bela Lugosi serial THE PHANTOM CREEPS to Blu-ray, and the (apparently much-loved) TERRIFIER 2 made its Collector's Edition Blu-ray debut!
While I toyed with the idea of choosing a "pick of the week" for each week, I decided instead to choose just one best overall new release for this post, and that is Shout! Factory's new 4K Ultra HD Blu of WARGAMES! Along with a new 4K scan (made from original camera negative) this 2-disc set comes with a feature-length commentary by director John Badham (and the film's two writers), plus a handful of featurettes, and the original theatrical trailer!
There's really not too much else to shine a spotlight on, but if you want to see the paltry summary of new discs that were released the past three weeks, just scroll down!
November is about to end gang, which means that it's that sad time of the year that requires us to (GASP!) spend money on other people! (AHHHH! NOOO!) Luckily this is also typically the slow season for new releases from most boutique labels, so even if you're not shopping for others, your bank accounts can take a bit of a breather.
As has been the case lately, I'm a little behind on reporting the new Blu-ray and 4K releases, so this week is another double-up edition to get ya'll caught up on all the new stuff that you may want to add to your growing collections! Last week had a pretty solid lineup of new titles on both formats with Kino Lorber putting out MYSTERY MEN and HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER on 4K UHD, as well as new Blu-rays of THE BLOOD BEAST TERROR and Season 3 of NIGHT GALLERY!
Scream Factory delivered an all new 4K release of THE COMPANY OF WOLVES (a fantastical retelling of "Little Red Riding Hood" that is at times visually stunning, but isn't really my cup of tea), while, Blue Underground gave the time travel classic THE FINAL COUNTDOWN its 4K debut, and Dark Force Entertainment released a trio of their popular Drive-In Double Features!
But despite all that good stuff, I chose Shout Factory's 4K debut of the original ROLLERBALL as my pick of the week! Along with the new 4K transfer, the disc comes with two audio commentaries, trailers, and a handful of archival featurettes about the making of this classic dystopian sci-fi flick!
The winner of my "coveted" pick of the week was easy this time around Vault Dwellers: Vinegar Syndrome's gorgeous 4K release of Tobe Hooper's TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2! Along with a pristine-looking transfer, this 2-disc set is absolutely loaded with special features including FOUR audio commentaries, an extended making-of documentary, new and archival cast & crew interviews, multiple featurettes, trailers, deleted scenes, and MORE! This release was limited to 10,000 copies, so if you see one online (or in the wild) jump on it fast!

After another long (and unintended) break, the Vault Master is back on the scene with the first STOCK YOUR VAULT post in quite some time! While I've been away, a lot of incredible discs have come out, and let me tell you, there's no end in sight! Physical media is NOT dead Vault Dwellers, and more amazing Blu-ray and 4K titles are incoming! And this week is no exception!
Scream Factory released ARMY OF DARKNESS (yes, again) in a new 4K UHD Collector's Edition that comes in standard and steelbook editions, plus they boxed up the remaining HALLOWEEN films (which includes the trio of films after part five, and before Rob Zombie's redo and sequel), while Paramount brought SCREAM 2 to 4K for the first time ever! And the Criterion Collection? Well they just gave Romero's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD a 4K upgrade, so this will definitely be the best this film has ever looked!
Despite these solid new releases, I'm giving this week's victory to Sony Pictures, who not only dropped a new 4K steelbook of BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA, but also a gorgeous 4K steelbook of Tom Holland's classic vampire tale, FRIGHT NIGHT! Along with its top-notch audio & video presentation, the disc contains over thirteen hours (!!!) of new and archival supplemental material that covers every aspect of its creation and legacy!

This past Tuesday saw a noticeable increase of new DVDs, Blu-rays, and 4K discs, but as we head towards Halloween, there are going to be some definite must-have titles, so plan accordingly Vault Dwellers!
This week The Criterion Collection released their new Blu-ray of the beautiful (and oh so sad tale of) THE ELEPHANT MAN, Universal released a triple feature of JAWS 2, JAWS 3(D), and JAWS: THE REVENGE on Blu-ray, and Discotek Media gave the awesome anime film WICKED CITY its Region A Blu-ray debut!
And just when you think there was nothing else you could possibly want to spend money on, Severin Films bursts your bubble with three new titles including MASSACRE IN DINOSAUR VALLEY, PRIMITIVES, and Bruno Mattei's CRUEL JAWS! All three films have been newly restored, come with a good number of extras, and must be seen to be believed!

Yikes! It's almost been a month since my last post - sorry about that gang! After vacation I kind of took a little more time to recharge the ole batteries and catch up on some reading (currently polishing off Matt Ruff's Lovecraft Country) and movie/TV show watching (I just recently saw STARMAN for the first time in its entirety and blasted through HBO's The Outsider in three nights).
But between work (which has never stopped being crazy busy since the pandemic started) and the imminent birth of my son [Action] Jackson (a mere thirty-eight days away) I can't guarantee that I'll be updating regularly for a while. But hey, we'll cross that bridge when we get there. For now let us ignore our uncertain futures and focus on this week's new DVD & Blu-ray titles!
This is a relatively light week for new releases Vault Dwellers, so I would strongly consider saving what expendable income you have on what's coming later this month. But if you can't fight the urge to spend money, there are a few titles worth picking up. Shudder brought the remake of SATAN'S SLAVES to DVD & Blu-ray, Shout! Factory released SWALLOW and a limited edition Steelbook of PROMARE, and the first season of HBO's His Dark Materials arrived on both DVD & Blu-ray disc this week.
Arrow Academy gave TOTO THE HERO its Blu-ray debut, and Kino Lorber Studio Classics unleashed a trio of Blu-ray sets celebrating the films of Tony Curtis, Audie Murphy, and Carole Lombard. As the remainder of this week's release slate is made up of anime and direct-to-DVD junk, I settled on Scream Factory's lone release (on DVD & Blu-ray) of THE SOUL COLLECTOR for my pick of the week. This South African horror tale has gotten some decent reviews and sounds intriguing - sadly the disc is bare bones.

Synopsis: Released five years after Bruce Lee’s death, this eccentrically entertaining kung-fu curio combines footage from an unfinished project directed by and starring Lee with original material shot by ENTER THE DRAGON director Robert Clouse to create an entirely new work that testifies to the actor’s enduring place in the pop-culture imagination.
Using stand-ins, doubles, and archival footage to compensate for Lee’s absence, GAME OF DEATH follows a martial-arts movie star who, when he is threatened by a cutthroat crime syndicate intent on controlling his career, must take his skills from the soundstage to the streets. It all builds to an exhilarating climax that is pure Lee: a tour de force of martial-arts mastery in which the legend himself, clad in an iconic yellow jumpsuit, fights his way up a multilevel pagoda, with the towering Kareem Abdul-Jabbar among his formidable opponents.
