Sorry for the delay in reporting this week's list of DVDs & Blu-rays Vault Dwellers! Christmas is next Tuesday and things are hectic here at Vault HQ and updates at the News Vault will be sporadic for at least another week. That being said, let's take a look at what is essentially the final batch of genre discs for the YEAR!
Arrow Video boasts a great Special Edition Blu-ray of Ed Hunt's BLOODY BIRTHDAY, which has a new 2K transfer, new cover art, new (and archival) extras, and MORE! Warner Archive Collection released DARK OF THE SUN and HORROR OF DRACULA to Blu-ray, while Garagehouse Pictures brings Andy Milligan's THE WEIRDO and MONSTROSITY to Blu-ray for the first time ever!
Scream Factory's gifts us with two Collector's Edition releases this week for DRACULA: PRINCE OF DARKNESS and John Carpenter's STARMAN, while their sister label Shout Select delivers new Blus of MURDER BY DEATH and THE JERK (40th Anniversary Edition)! For those of you who prefer more mainstream titles, you have your choice of (the apparently underrated) ASSASSINATION NATION, Eli Roth's fun family adventure THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS, Shane Black's maligned THE PREDATOR, and the shockingly successful Tom Hardy vehicle, VENOM!
There's also a lot of indie titles and anime collections out this week, so be sure to scroll down to view the full roster of new DVDs & Blu-rays! Also, this will be the final Stock Your Vault post until January 2019 so Happy Holidays fellow collectors, and I'll see you next year!

MURDEROUS MACHINES, CHRISTMAS KILLERS, AND A CANNIBALISTIC MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY POPULATE SCREAM FACTORY'S NEWEST BLU-RAY TITLES!
Egads! As 2018 nears its end, Scream Factory is bombarding us with a final trio of fright flicks on December 11th and boy are they... something! I recall renting THE MANGLER on VHS after its failed theatrical run in 1995, mainly because of he big names that were attached. Needless to say, I was not impressed and never revisited it. SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT PART 2 is a definite guilty pleasure that won me over after a few viewings, and I'm truly happy to see that it has built up enough of a cult following to warrant a Collector's Edition Blu-ray.
Sadly I cannot say the same for TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE NEXT GENERATION which I haven't seen since its cable TV premiere on (I believe) Cinemax. But now that a few decades have passed... maybe it's time to sit down and give it another shot? (NAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH! Hahahaha!) If you're as excited as I am(?) about these new titles, continue onward for all the juicy details on their new specs and extras!
Based on King's short story, this white-knuckle chiller follows a cop (Ted Levine - THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, THE HILLS HAVE EYES) as he investigates a series of grisly accidents ... and uncovers a deadly town secret that has been hidden for years – a terrifying entity that threatens to destroy everything in its path. With time running out and a young girl's life in the balance, he races to destroy the beast before it’s too late!

Scream Factory's Blu-ray of THE MANGLER is due out on Tuesday, December 11th, and also features reversible cover art (something not always offered on their non-Collector's Edition releases). As is the case with many of Scream's recent titles, this one is rather expensive, with a $28.00 price tag. If that doesn't scare you off, then pick up a copy from AMAZON, BULL MOOSE, DIABOLIK DVD, or directly from SHOUT! FACTORY.
SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT PART 2 (COLLECTOR'S EDITION - 1987)

UPDATE: 05/23/2020 - After almost two years, Arrow Video's DJANGO Blu-ray is finally getting released! If you missed out on the Limited Edition (or Steelbook) the last time (like most of us did) you can snap up a copy on June 30, 2020!
UPDATE: 12/10/2018 - Arrow's DJANGO discs are currently ON HOLD (so if you somehow got one, count yourself lucky!) There is a review embargo in place, and the disc is not being shipped due to (from what I've ascertained from several sources) rights issues! I'll post more info as I receive it!
Because I'm quite possibly insane, I task myself with owning the best possible edition for just about every movie in my personal collection. That means that I am constantly double-dipping on titles I already own on DVD or Blu-ray.
And now here I am once again, on the cusp of upgrading two of my favorite Westerns: DJANGO and HANG 'EM HIGH, a pair of films warning of the dangers of leaving someone for dead! While DJANGO fares better (4K restoration, lots of extras, and a bonus film!), HANG 'EM HIGH's Blu-ray does offer up a pair of new audio commentaries! For a closer look a these new releases, please continue reading pardners. :: tips hat ::
DJANGO (1966)
Synopsis: In this definitive Spaghetti Western, Franco Nero (KEOMA, THE FIFTH CORD)
gives a career-defining performance as Django, a mysterious loner who
arrives at a mud-drenched ghost town on the Mexico-US border, ominously
dragging a coffin behind him. After saving imperiled prostitute Maria
(Loredana Nusciak), Django becomes embroiled in a brutal feud between a
racist gang and a band of Mexican revolutionaries...
With DJANGO, director Sergio Corbucci (THE GREAT SILENCE) upped the ante
for sadism and sensationalism in Westerns, depicting machine gun
massacres, mud-fighting prostitutes and savage mutilations. A huge hit
with international audiences, Django’s brand of bleak nihilism would be
repeatedly emulated in a raft of unofficial sequels.

HANG 'EM HIGH (1968) Synopsis:
They strung him up. They left him to die. But they made two fatal
mistakes: they hanged the wrong man ... and they didn't finish the job.
Oklahoma,
1873: Jed Cooper (Clint Eastwood), mistaken for a rustler and killer,
is lynched on the spot by crooked lawman Captain Wilson (Ed Begley) and a
rampaging band of vigilantes. But as Wilson and his gang flee the
scene, there's one very important detail they've overlooked — Cooper is
still alive!
Saved in the nick of time by a marshal,
Cooper takes on the job of deputy marshal in order to bring hard-handed
justice to the Oklahoma territory ... and to the nine men who "done him
wrong." Co-starring Inger Stevens and Pat Hingle, HANG 'EM HIGH is a
savage and action-packed western adventure, presented to you in this
celebratory 50th Anniversary Edition!

Shout Select's 50th Anniversary Blu-ray of HANG EM' HIGH is also
available on Tuesday, December 11th, and should cost around $30! (Ack!
HANG 'EM HIGH? More like PRICE 'EM HIGH!) Yeah that's a bit steep,
especially considering that it seems like they just ported over the
previous transfer from the much cheaper MGM Blu-ray,
but the two new audio commentaries might just be worth it? If you have
your heart set on owning this 50th Anniversary release, get it now from AMAZON, BULLMOOSE, DIABOLIK DVD, or directly from SHOUT! FACTORY.
SCORPION RELEASING'S NEW BLU-RAY OF "DEATH SHIP" IS A DEFINITE UPGRADE FROM ALL PREVIOUS RELEASES!
I've never seen DEATH SHIP (or DEATH SHIT as the webmaster of Badmovies.Org "lovingly" refers to it), but always remember seeing its cool poster design in the Horror section of my local mom & pop video store. Even after Scream Factory put it out on Blu-ray, I failed to obtain a copy before it went out of print. But thanks to Scorpion Releasing, DEATH SHIP is back and better than ever before, with a new 2K transfer, and a new 5.1 audio mix!
Synopis: Academy Award winner George Kennedy (CREEPSHOW 2) stars with Richard Crenna (the RAMBO series),
Nick Mancuso (UNDER SIEGE), and Saul Rubinek (TRUE ROMANCE, UNFORGIVEN) in this terrifying tale of a possessed
ship searching for new victims on the high seas! An ocean liner carrying
vacationing passengers collides with a mysterious freighter. The
handful of survivors seek refuge aboard the sinister ship, which
turns out to be a Nazi torture vessel that is possessed by the evil that once commanded it! It has a life of its own.... pray you are never rescued by the DEATH SHIP!

DEATH SHIP will be available to own on Tuesday, December 11th, and should cost between $18 - $25! You can grab a copy of the standard edition of DEATH SHIP from AMAZON or BULLMOOSE. I say "standard edition" because earlier this year (in May) a Limited (to 1,500) Edition came out, that was Region Free and had a collectible slipcover. If that makes any difference to you, then you'll be happy to know that you can still procure a copy (for $25) from DIABOLIK DVD and RONIN FLIX.
Greetings Vault Dwellers, and welcome to December 2018! There's just twenty days left until Christmas, and there's plenty of new DVDs & Blu-rays that you might just want to add to your wishlists!

SCREAM FACTORY AND IFC MIDNIGHT BRING SEBASTIAN GUTIERREZ' SCI-FI THRILLER TO DVD & BLU-RAY!
In an effort to put some money back into my personal coffers, yours truly has drastically cut back on collecting Scream Factory titles in the past year. Though temptation does rear its head every now and again, it has been easier to say "no thanks" to many of Scream's newer releases because of recent (some would even say drastic) price increases. And typically I don't really bat an eye when a new IFC Midnight title appears on their release slate, but I've gotta say... I really want to see ELIZABETH HARVEST! It has a hell of a cast, and looks like it could have an interesting plot, and some very intense moments! I'm getting kind of an EX MACHINA vibe from it, and that's not a bad thing!
Synopsis: Nothing is as it seems in this brain-bending plunge into our darkest desires. Elizabeth (Abbey Lee - THE NEON DEMON), a beautiful young newlywed, arrives at the palatial estate of her brilliant scientist husband Henry (CiarĂ¡n Hinds - JUSTICE LEAGUE, The Terror). Ensconced in modernist luxury with an obedient — if slightly unsettling — house staff (Carla Gugino - GERALD'S GAME and Matthew Beard - THE IMITATION GAME), she has seemingly everything she could want.
But one mystery tantalizes her: what is behind the locked door to Henry's laboratory that he has forbidden her to enter? When an inquisitive Elizabeth dares to find out, everything she thought she knew about her husband — and about herself — will change. Elizabeth Harvest casts a spell of creeping Gothic menace as it unravels a disturbing tale of identity, obsession, and twisted love.

ARROW VIDEO'S SPECIAL EDITION RELEASE OF THIS MINOR HORROR CLASSIC BOASTS A NEW 2K TRANSFER AND LOADS OF NEW EXTRAS!
I have heard about BLOODY BIRTHDAY from numerous friends, but I have yet to actually sit down and watch it. And once I do, I believe that I'll invest in Arrow Video's new Special Edition, which looks to be a notch or two above Severin Films' 2014 BLOODY BIRTHDAY Blu-ray! Let's take a closer look!
Debbie, Curtis and Steven may seem cute as buttons. But their angelic
facade conceals the wicked, murderous streak given to them having all
been born under the same solar eclipse. With the grown-ups around them
blissfully unaware of their little darlings' homicidal tendencies, the
evil brats begin to bump off the adults one-by-one. By gun. By arrow. By
cake. Bye-bye!
Mixing the killer-kid subgenre with elements of the then-booming
slice-and-dice movie, 1981's BLOODY BIRTHDAY shocks and appalls with its
scenes of young children shooting, strangling and bludgeoning their way
through the local population. They sure don't (and can't!) make 'em
like this anymore.

PERUVIAN ALIENS AND A MAGICAL CREATURE VOICED BY DOM DELUISE INHABIT SCREAM FACTORY'S NEWEST DOUBLE FEATURE!
I recall adoring MUNCHIES when I was kid, but I'll readily admit that this GREMLINS rip-off hasn't aged all that well. MUNCHIE I am less familiar with, but I know its sequel MUNCHIE STRIKES BACK pretty well. This is definitely a nostalgia-driven double feature Vault Dwellers, and I only recommend it if you have kids, are familiar with these films and want to revisit them, or are continuing the insanely impossible quest of owning every Scream Factory title!
MUNCHIES Synopsis: Archeologist Simon Watterman (Harvey Korman - BLAZING SADDLES, HISTORY OF THE WORLD PART I) discovers the Munchies
while on an expedition in Peru. But Simon's evil twin, food entrepreneur
Cecil Watterman (also Korman), won't let him enjoy his achievement. The
snack food tycoon tries to abduct the Munchies to destroy his brother's
career and take over his property. These junk food junkies prove to be
too much to handle as they begin to menace the residents of a small town
in any way they can. Move over ghoulies, ghosties and things that go
bump in the night! The Munchies are here and they are bringing the fun
with them!

pops the magical Munchie (Dom DeLuise - CANNONBALL RUN, SPACEBALLS). Munchie is the ever-hungry and
hilarious mysterious creature from another world who delivers flying

Newly married, young, beautiful and naive Emmanuelle travels to Bangkok to join her older diplomatic husband Jean (Daniel Sarky).
On the plane, which takes off from Paris, she gets a taste of the erotic joys waiting for her in Asia.
