Charles Bronson Returns From the Dead in DEATH KISS - Now Available to Watch On Demand!

UNCORK'D ENTERTAINMENT RELEASES A NEW VIGILANTE ACTION FLICK WITH AN EERILY FAMILIAR LEAD ACTOR!

When I first saw the trailer for DEATH KISS, I thought I was bearing witness to some sort of amazingly effective digital trickery. However, the truth is even crazier because the lead star, Robert Kovacs, is a dead ringer for the late (and very great) Charles Bronson! Regardless of the quality of the movie, I want to see it just because it contains a Bronson-clone!

Synopsis: A vigilante with a mysterious past goes to a crime-infested city and takes the law into his own hands, at the same time protecting a young mother and her child.

Written and directed by Rene Perez (PLAYING WITH DOLLS: HAVOC), and filmed in Northern California, DEATH KISS stars Robert Kovacs (who has gained attention for his uncanny resemblance to a certain well-known action star), Daniel Baldwin (JOHN CARPENTER’S VAMPIRES), Richard Tyson (KINDERGARTEN COP, TWO MOON JUNCTION), Eva Hamilton (horror fest fave RUIN ME), Stormi Maya, Leia Perez, Reese Austyn, and Sam Story.

Stills & Trailer:
(Click on images to enlarge them.)

DEATH KISS is now available to stream instantly at AMAZON and various other On Demand services. It will get a DVD release on December 4th, which will include a trailer, director's commentary, and possibly more supplemental material. To keep tabs on all things DEATH KISS, visit the film's Official Facebook Page! For more info on this film and future Uncork'd Entertainment titles, go HERE.

Warner Archive Unleashes DRACULA A.D. 1972 and THE SATANIC RITES OF DRACULA onto Blu-ray!

TWO HAMMER HORROR CLASSICS COME TO BLU-RAY JUST IN TIME FOR THE HALLOWEEN SEASON!

UPDATE (10/16/2018): THE SATANIC RITES OF DRACULA has been pushed back until November 13th!

It's been a long time since I've laid eyes upon THE SATANIC RITES OF DRACULA so I can't really comment on that film. However, DRACULA A.D. 1972 is fresher in my mind, and while it's not one of my fave Hammer titles, it's still a pretty solid movie. Though it sort of peaks with the duel between Dracula and Van Helsing at the beginning of the film, there's plenty of eye candy (e.g. Caroline Munro!) to keep your interest in this one!

DRACULA A.D. 1972 (1972)

Synopsis: London’s become a small town for a handful of jaded psychedelic-era hipsters. But Johnny Alucard has a groovy new way for his pals to get their kicks. A certain ritual will be the living end, he insists. And if you still wonder where Johnny’s coming from, try spelling his last name backwards. Dracula is raised into the modern era in this Hammer Studios shocker that’s “quite well done” (John Stanley, Creature Features).

Christopher Lee dons the cape for the sixth time and seeks out fresh victims. As archnemesis Van Helsing, fellow horror legend Peter Cushing clutches a vial of holy water and edges within throwing distance. Their harrowing battle royale is not to be missed. In fact, it’s the living end!

Disc Specs:
Rated PG | Color | 96 minutes | Region A
Video - 1080p Widescreen (1.78:1)
Audio - DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0

Extras:
  • NEW! HD Remaster!
While I'm happy to see this film get an all new transfer, I'm disappointed in the lack of extras (Yeesh, not even a trailer?), even more so because this disc is going for $19 - $22! While I'd suggest waiting for a price drop, if you simply must add this Hammer title to your collection, you can order it now from AMAZON, BULLMOOSE, or DIABOLIK DVD!

THE SATANIC RITES OF DRACULA (1973)

Synopsis: A dying man’s report of a ritual black mass stirs Britain’s security chief into action, and a mansion filled with young vampire girls is soon discovered. And this is but the first twist in a labyrinth of horror. Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee pair up for the final Hammer Dracula in this follow-up to Dracula A.D. 1972.

In this go-round, the Count (Christopher Lee, naturally) follows a more pulpish, super-villainous playbook, posing as a millionaire industrialist alive and well and living in London while secretly brewing up a batch of super-plague in a quest to destroy the world.

Mixing Satanists, spies and sci-fi, the film makes viewers glad that Peter Cushing is on hand to solidly anchor the more outré elements as the effortlessly expositioning Dr. Van Helsing. Lee, in turn, has more dialogue as Dracula than was the norm, and ratchets up the evil to the nth degree. Joanna Lumley (Absolutely Fabulous) costars. Also known as COUNT DRACULA AND HIS VAMPIRE BRIDE.

Disc Specs:
Rated R | Color | 87 minutes | Region A
Video - 1080p Widescreen (1.78:1)
Audio - DTS HD-Master Audio 2.0

Extras:
  • NEW! HD Remaster!
Just like DRACULA A.D. 1972, this Hammer title boasts a new HD remaster, but lacks any special features, and also goes for $19 - $22. You can order THE SATANIC RITES OF DRACULA now from AMAZON, BULLMOOSE, or DIABOLIK DVD, and receive it on November 13th!

On October 30th, Travel Back in Time With Brad Pitt in 12 MONKEYS!

ARROW VIDEO GIVES TERRY GILLIAM'S SCI-FI CLASSIC A NEW COLLECTOR'S EDITION
BLU-RAY!

UPDATE (10/10/2018): The street date for this title has been pushed back until October 30th!

While I have enjoyed many of Terry Gilliam's films (including MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL, JABBERWOCKY, and THE ADVENTURES OF BARON MUNCHAUSEN) I must admit that I've failed to see 12 MONKEYS since its release back in 1995. It's definitely on my "list" (i.e. an ever-expanding index of films I need to watch), but the opportunity to sit down and watch it has never presented itself. Now it looks like I'll have to remedy that now that Arrow's given this film some much-needed TLC.

Synopsis: Following the commercial and critical success of THE FISHER KING, Terry Gilliam's next feature would turn to science fiction and a screenplay by Janet and David Peoples (BLADE RUNNER, UNFORGIVEN) inspired by Chris Marker's classic short film La Jetée. In 1996, a deadly virus is unleashed by a group calling themselves the "Army of the Twelve Monkeys," destroying much of the world's population and forcing survivors underground.

In 2035, prisoner James Cole (Bruce Willis - DIE HARD) is chosen to go back in time and help scientists in their search for a cure. Featuring an Oscar-nominated turn by Brad Pitt (FIGHT CLUB) as mental patient Jeffrey Goines, 12 MONKEYS would become Gilliam's most successful film and is now widely regarded as a sci-fi classic.

Disc Specs:
Rated R | Color | 129 minutes | Region A
Video - 1080p Widescreen (1.85:1)
Audio - DTS 5.1 Master Audio

Extras:
  • NEW! Restoration from a 4k scan of the original negative by Arrow Films, approved by director Terry Gilliam!
  • Audio commentary by Terry Gilliam and producer Charles Roven.
  • The Hamster Factor and Other Tales of Twelve Monkeys - Feature-length making-of documentary by Keith Fulton and Louis Pepe.
  • Extensive image galley
  • Theatrical trailer
  • Reversible sleeve featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Gary Pullin!
  • FIRST PRESSING ONLY: Illustrated collector’s booklet featuring new writing on the film by Nathan Rabin and archive materials!
Arrow's Collector's Edition of 12 MONKEYS will be available wherever Blu-ray discs are sold on Tuesday, October 30th, and should cost between $26 - $28! You can order a copy now from AMAZON, BULLMOOSE, or DIABOLIK DVD!

Liberals and Minorities Beware: PRESIDENT EVIL is Coming!

UPCOMING INDIE HORROR SPOOF REPLACES MICHAEL MYERS WITH THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!

I recently received a bit o' press about Richard Lowly's PRESIDENT EVIL, a parody of John Carpenter's HALLOWEEN. The big twist here is that the killer is disguised as President Donald J. Trump, and wields a butcher knife emblazoned with the stars and stripes!

Film Synopsis: Days before the November mid-term Elections, three young girls who are a Muslim, Mexican, and Haitian, are stalked by a deranged killer dressed as the POTUS. PRESIDENT EVIL stars Jose Rosete (The Walking Dead:Red Machete), Christian Hutcherson (Dark), and Johanna Rae (PSYCHOS) and was directed by Richard Lowly (APOCALYPSE RISING), who co-wrote the film with Gregory P. Wolk.

Trailers:

PRESIDENT EVIL does not yet have a poster or release date, so stay tuned for updates as I receive more information about this upcoming film! In the meantime, be sure to visit the Official Facebook page and website for behind-the-scenes photos and more!

Umbrella Entertainment's October 2018 New Releases!

CENOBITES, HAUNTED HOUSES, AND POST-APOCALYPTIC LANDSCAPES AWAIT YOU IN UMBRELLA'S NEW OCTOBER RELEASES!

Yowza! North American labels have been bombarding us with tons of new titles this month already, and our friends in Australia are upping the ante as well! This month, Umbrella brings the first three HELLRAISER films to Blu-ray (as if you didn't own them in some format already), and gives NEXT OF KIN a deluxe release under their Ozploitation Classics line with a new 4K transfer, and loads of extras!

Umbrella's Beyond Genres label continues to shine with their latest addition of THE QUIET EARTH, which has just received a new HD restoration, and newer genre fare comes to DVD, including OUIJA HOUSE and LOST GULLY ROAD. To find out more about the titles I've just mentioned, and to see the list of Umbrella's other new October titles, continue onward!

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
* Umbrella's got a lot of cool stuff coming out on November 11th including: SINGLE WHITE FEMALE (which is also coming from Scream Factory on November 13th here in the States), EMMANUELLE 2 (on DVD & Double Feature Blu-ray), HEAVEN'S BURNING, CHAIN REACTION, LUNATICS: A LOVE STORY, and DEVIL'S GATE.

* Also due out on November 11th is Umbrella's Ultimate Edition of George A. Romero's DAY OF THE DEAD. Though I already own the Anchor Bay and Scream Factory releases of this title, I have to admit that the Umbrella release is pretty tempting. I'm guessing this release uses the same audio and video from previous Blu-ray releases, and is loaded with special features!

* Umbrella has announced a handful of their December titles, but the one that stands out for me is FROG DREAMING, which has been described as a GOONIES-style children's adventure film, about a pair of kids that go on a journey to seek a legendary aquatic creature.

THE ADVENTURES OF BARRY MCKENZIE (1972)

Synopsis: Reviled by the critics! Adored by fair-dinkum Aussies! In this fan-bloody-tastic classic, Australia's favourite wild colonial boy, Barry McKenzie, journeys to the old country accompanied by his Aunt Edna Everage to take a Captain Cook and further his cultural and intellectual education.

Faster than a rat up a drainpipe, Bazza heads for Earls Court to catch up with a bonzer bunch of ex-pat bastards - and from there rampages through London, cracking tubes, parking the tiger, pointing percy, flashing the nasty, and handing out knuckle-sandwiches to the unsuspecting Poms - who wouldn't even know a tram was up 'em 'till the bell rang!

Barry Humphries, Barry Cocker, Spike Milligan and Peter Cook star in this groundbreaking flick that captured Bazza's celebrated yawn in glorious technicolor and put the Oz fillum industry on the map!

Disc Specs:
Rated R | Color | 101 minutes | Region 4
Video - 480p Widescreen (16:9)
Audio - Dolby Digital 2.0

Extras:
  • Introduction By Dame Edna
  • Original Fillum Script

BEYOND GENRES VOLUME 6: THE QUIET EARTH (1985)

Synopsis: Scientist Zac Hobson (a powerhouse performance by Bruno Lawrence of Frontline) awakens to discover that he may be the last man on earth. Homes, highways and entire cities are deserted, every living thing has disappeared. Frustrated and plagued by megalomaniacal visions, Zac stands on a balcony and grandly addresses an 'audience' of cardboard standups (from Queen Elizabeth to Bob Marley), declaring himself "President of this quiet Earth."

But Hobson soon finds he may not be alone.
Receiving huge critical acclaim, and winning of 8 New Zealand Film Awards, this compelling sci-fi thriller has been rightly compared to the Twilight Zone for its chilling portrayal of a barren, post-apocalyptic world from which there is only one means of escape.

Scream Factory's New Blu-rays of HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL and TRICK R' TREAT are to Die For!

A SHOCKINGLY DECENT REMAKE AND ONE OF THE BEST HORROR ANTHOLOGIES OF ALL TIME GET MUST-OWN COLLECTOR'S EDITION RELEASES ON OCTOBER 9TH!

I recall seeing HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL when it made its theatrical debut back in 1999 and, aside from the weak ending, I really dug it. It has a great cast (though Jeffrey Combs is definitely underutilized), some truly creepy moments, and has cemented itself as one of the better modern horror remakes.

After being shelved for years by Warner Bros., TRICK R' TREAT eventually came out and instantly found an audience. The film has built up a large cult following, and many put it in their regular horror movie rotation every October! And now both films have gotten the royal treatment from Scream Factory, with new 2K transfers and a multitude of special features!

HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL (1999)

Synopsis: One night in the house, one million bucks, no questions asked. But there is a catch for anyone who accepts the offer. Murder is a way of life at the HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, a jolting, effects-ramped remake of the 1959 cult classic that starred Vincent Price and was directed by screen horror legend William Castle.

Geoffrey Rush plays twisted theme park bigshot Stephen Price, who's hosting a scary/jokey birthday bash for his wife (Famke Janssen) at an abandoned institute for the criminally insane. Taye Diggs, Ali Larter, Bridgette Wilson, Peter Gallagher and Chris Kattan portray strangers mysteriously assembled for the event that could make them all very rich. Or profoundly dead. And you? We wouldn't start the party without you.

Sam Raimi's Horror Classic, THE EVIL DEAD, Makes the Leap to 4K Ultra HD on October 9th!

"THE EVIL DEAD" RETURNS IN YET ANOTHER NEW HOME VIDEO RELEASE!

Egads! I have purchased the entirety of the EVIL DEAD franchise in various formats over the years, and it looks like I may end up doing it again! Raimi's classic original makes its debut on 4K Ultra HD, though it is far from being a definitive release. I guess that means that we'll eventually get a "Deluxe Edition" that is packed with extras, and most likely a 4K release of EVIL DEAD II in the near future!

Synopsis: THE EVIL DEAD, director Sam Raimi’s (DARKMAN, THE QUICK AND THE DEAD, ARMY OF DARKNESS) first feature film, is a true cult classic in every sense of the word. Originally released in 1982, THE EVIL DEAD tells the tale of a group of friends who go to a cabin in the woods, where they encounter an unspeakable evil lurking in the forest. They find the Necronomicon Ex Mortus ("The Book of the Dead"), and the taped translation of the text.

Once the tape is played, the evil is released. One by one, the teens become deadly zombies. With only one remaining (Bruce Campbell - Ash vs. Evil Dead, BUBBA HO-TEP, MANIAC COP), it is up to him to survive the night and battle THE EVIL DEAD.

Disc Specs:
Not Rated | Color | 85 minutes | Region A
Video - 2160p Widescreen (1.85:1)
Audio - English 5.1 Dolby TrueHD

Extras:
  • Audio Commentary with writer-director Sam Raimi, producer Robert Tapert, and star Bruce Campbell!
While I'm sure many fans will snap up this release, I'm sure that some will be disappointed by the lack of an original Mono audio track, and dearth of special features. Still, the draw of seeing THE EVIL DEAD in twice the resolution of its previous Blu-ray release is hard to pass up, especially since this disc only costs between $16 - $18! You can order a copy of this 4K Ultra HD release now from AMAZON, BULLMOOSE, or DIABOLIK DVD!

BAD RONALD Comes Out of Hiding to Make his Blu-ray Debut on October 9th!

WARNER ARCHIVE COLLECTION BRINGS BUZZ KULIK'S MADE-FOR-TV THRILLER "BAD RONALD" TO BLU-RAY FOR THE
FIRST TIME!

BAD RONALD is a film I've heard plenty about over the years, but never had the chance to see for myself. That all changes on October 9th once Warner Archive Collection unveils their new Blu-ray for Buzz Kulik's creepy tale about a family that unknowingly buys a house that harbors a secret tenant in its walls! Hmmm.... this movie sounds like it'd make a great double feature with HOUSEBOUND, or THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS, or HIDER IN THE HOUSE!

Synopsis: How bad is Ronald? The Wood family finds out when they move into a house with an extra the realtor didn't know about: Teenage Ronald, who's been hiding in a secret room ever since he killed a neighbor girl. Ronald was a little weird when he entered the room, but now he's creepy-scary crazy. And he finds the three pretty Wood daughters very, very interesting.

BAD RONALD features a fine cast that includes Scott Jacoby (THE LITTLE GIRL THAT LIVES DOWN THE LANE), Kim Hunter (PLANET OF THE APES) and Dabney Coleman (TOOTSIE), and maintains a nerve-tightening atmosphere of suspense as Ronald begins terrorizing the unsuspecting family!

Disc Specs:
Not Rated | Color | 74 minutes | Region A
Video - 1080p Fullscreen (1.33:1)
Audio - DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0

Extras:
  • None.
Though BAD RONALD boasts a brand new HD remaster (and upgraded audio), the disc is sadly a bare bones release. Still, this Blu-ray title is definitely worth picking up, especially if you caught this movie on TV when you were a kid! BAD RONALD's street date is Tuesday, October 9th and it should cost between $19 - $22! Get your copy now from AMAZON, BULLMOOSE, or DIABOLIK DVD!

IFC Midnight's FERAL is Looking to Build a 'Rabid' Following on Blu-ray!

SCREAM FACTORY BRINGS MARK YOUNG'S "FERAL" TO BLU-RAY ON OCTOBER 2ND!

While the plot of FERAL isn't anything new (campers stranded at a cabin in the woods, where one by one they succumb to a deadly virus) it seems like this latest IFC Midnight offering from Scream Factory has a few tricks up its sleeve, and could prove to be an interesting watch. Let's take a closer look at this upcoming Blu-ray title Vault Dwellers!

Synopsis: Your best friend has just been infected with a horrifying virus that will soon turn her into a rabid, rampaging cannibal zombie. Do you: a) try to save her? Or b) kill her before she kills you? That's the nightmarish scenario six students find themselves facing when their celebratory camping trip goes terrifyingly wrong.

One by one, each falls victim to the "feral" disease, until only Alice (Scout Taylor-Compton, Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN) and Jules (Olivia Luccardi, IT FOLLOWS) — two girlfriends testing the waters of their new relationship — are left standing, armed with a shotgun and holed up in a remote cabin. They've got a hell of a fight before them if they hope to survive in this grisly blend of survival thriller and contagion shocker.

Disc Specs:

The Early Adventures of Carl Kolchak Are Coming to Blu-ray on October 2nd!

KINO LORBER STUDIO CLASSICS BRINGS "THE NIGHT STALKER" AND "THE NIGHT STRANGLER" TO BLU-RAY WITH NEW 4K TRANSFERS AND EXTRAS!

I was pretty late to the game with Kolchak: The Night Stalker Vault Dwellers, but I instantly fell in love with this classic (but sadly short-lived) TV series after catching an episode on the OLD Sci-Fi (not SyFy) Channel back in the day. The episode was titled Chopper (Episode 15 of Season 1) and featured a headless motorcyclist seeking vengeance from the grave!

I wouldn't reacquaint myself with Kolchak until decades later when I was in my early twenties. At the time I was a devout collector of MGM Midnight Movies, and I picked up the double-feature release of THE NIGHT STALKER and THE NIGHT STRANGLER! Then the following year, I immediately purchased the complete series on DVD and marathoned the films and episodes throughout the course of a few days - I had Kolchak fever!

And now the TV films that started it all are coming to Blu-ray, fully restored (in 4K!) and packed with special features! If you're a Kolchak fan, a.) you have great taste and b.) YOU NEED THESE BLU-RAYS IN YOUR COLLECTION!

THE NIGHT STALKER (1972)

Synopsis: After several high-profile newspapers fire him for his difficult attitude, investigative journalist Carl Kolchak (Darren McGavin - A CHRISTMAS STORY), finds a job following the police beat for a small Las Vegas publication. When Carl discovers a series of dead showgirls drained of blood with bite marks on their necks, the police hesitate to take the case any further, and his boss wants nothing to do with the story, leading Carl to believe there may be a real vampire prowling the city streets.

Also starring, Carol Lynley (THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE), Simon Oakland (PSYCHO), Ralph Meeker (THE FOOD OF THE GODS, WITHOUT WARNING), and Claude Akins (TENTACLES, THE CURSE).

The power of Kolchak compels you... to buy this Blu-ray!

THE NIGHT STRANGLER (1973)

Synopsis: Supernatural phenomena, baffling murders and offbeat humor mark this second Night Stalker offering with a great cast and suspense so palpable, it'll feel like a presence right there in the room with you. Surfacing in Seattle, Kolchak (Darren McGavin) uncovers another maddening mystery: Every 21 years - for the past century - a serial killer commits a spree of murders, drains his victims' blood and then quietly disappears.

But Kolchak is on to this monster and is about to discover a shocking underground lair... an army of rotting corpses... and the ageless madman behind it all. The great Dan Curtis (BURNT OFFERINGS) produced and directed this highly-rated TV movie written by legendary sci-fi/horror writer Richard Matheson (I Am Legend).
