Intended to be a followup to DRACULA, this oft-forgotten Horror classic features Lugosi as a "different" vampire, who is accidentally freed during a Nazi bombing raid! I've been meaning to see this one for a while (mostly to see Lugosi's werewolf servant in action), and it looks like Scream Factory's new Blu is the way to go!

Synopsis: Bela Lugosi rises from the crypt in this blood-curdling horror classic! In 1918, Armand Tesla (Bela Lugosi), a 200-year-old Hungarian Vampire, prowls the English countryside, feeding from the jugulars of the villagers. But Tesla's reign of terror is interrupted when a pair of scientists, Lady Jane (Frieda Inescort) and Sir John Ainsley (Roland Varno), drive a railroad spike through his heart.

The "un-dead" Tesla remains safely entombed for two decades until the impact from a stray Nazi bomb accidentally releases him. Along with his werewolf servant Andreas Obry (Matt Willis), the resurrected vampire now plots vengeance on the family that put a halt to his nocturnal feasting!

Holy cow! At the most, I expected this release to be bare bones with a trailer at most! The inclusion of an 8mm version plus a trio of audio commentaries (I bet the Lee Gambin is worth the price of admission alone) makes this a must-have in my book! John Badham's DRACULA Once Again Rises from its Blu-ray Tomb on February 19th!

THE 1979 ADAPTATION OF BRAM STOKER'S NOVEL RETURNS TO BLU-RAY, SANS A DIGITAL COPY.

Since the 1930s, there has been so many iterations of Count Dracula on film: From Bela Lugosi, to William Marshall, to John Carradine, and Duncan Regher I've just about seen them all. And yet I've never taken the time to watch Frank Langella in the role as the immortal Count. I've definitely gotta knock this one off my (eternally growing) list of films I need to watch!

Also, I must note that this Blu-ray disc seems to just be a cheaper re-release with the same specs & extras as the last DRACULA Blu. The only noticeable difference is the lack of a digital Ultraviolet copy of the film. (Which is no big loss seeing as how Ultraviolet will be going extinct this April.)

VAULT VID-O-RAMA: CASTLEVANIA EDITION!

VAULT VID-O-RAMA RETURNS TO CELEBRATE THE RELEASE OF "CASTLEVANIA" ON NETFLIX!

Imagine my surprise tonight when someone notified me that NetFlix's animated CASTLEVANIA show was now streaming! I immediately signed on and binged all four episodes, and was left wanting more. The animation, story, and characters are awesome!

Set during the timeline from CASTLEVANIA III: DRACULA'S CURSE, Trevor Belmont, last of his line, comes out of a drunken stupor to help defend the people of Wallachia from an army of monsters that was unleashed by a vengeful Dracula! Along the way he gathers new allies, and sticks it to organized religion as he puts his whip ("The Vampire Killer") to good use!

To celebrate the release of this awesome show, let's get all nostalgic for all things Castlevania with an all new VAULT VID-O-RAMA!

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

We're halfway through May Vault Dwellers, and thankfully this week is another light one. BUT, there are a TON of must-own titles out now from all of your fave cult film distribution labels!

Arrow Video has released a two-disc Special Edition of the Euro-Crime thriller THE CLIMBER, Kino Lorber gives us the Action-Comedy-Thriller HIGHPOINT on Blu-ray, and Universal is mining their classic monsters for more money, with the Blu-ray Legacy Collections of DRACULA and THE MUMMY.

However, Scream Factory and it's sibling label Shout Select, have officially conquered this week, boasting Blu-rays of BEN, WILLARD, STREETS OF FIRE, GAME OF DEATH, and RETURN OF THE DRAGON!

But what I'm most excited for this week gang, is Mill Creek Entertainment's PAYBACK TIME TRIPLE FEATURE, which contains BLIND FURY, SILENT RAGE, and WHITE LINE FEVER! How can you go wrong with that lineup?! (Answer: You can't!)

The first round of genre releases for October are out, and there's something for everyone on DVD & Blu-ray! Scream Factory has just released the cannibal-comedy GRAVY, and Kino Lorber's given us a nice Blu-ray release of BURNT OFFERINGS, a personal fave of mine, which features Oliver Reed moving his family into a haunted house of sorts.

Warner Home Video has recently upped their game, and put out a nice four-film Blu-ray set of Hammer Horror titles, including THE MUMMY, FRANKENSTEIN MUST BE DESTROYED, DRACULA HAS RISEN FROM THE GRAVE, and TASTE THE BLOOD OF DRACULA. (As an added bonus, if you don't want the set, you can buy each film separately.)
