Shout! Factory and Arcana Studio to release HOWARD LOVECRAFT AND THE FROZEN KINGDOM in 2016!

SHOUT! FACTORY TEAMS WITH ARCANA STUDIO ON NEW ANIMATED FEATURE - "HOWARD LOVECRAFT AND THE FROZEN KINGDOM!"

Arcana Studio and Shout! Factory are teaming up to create an all-new animated feature based upon Arcana’s popular graphic novel, HOWARD LOVECRAFT AND THE FROZEN KINGDOM. Written, directed and produced by Sean Patrick O’Reilly, this adaptation will introduce a new generation to the imaginative Lovecraft universe through the new animated adventures of a young Howard Lovecraft.

Shout! Factory will handle the cross-platform distribution when the film is completed, bringing this Lovecraftian tale to numerous formats: DVD, Blu-ray, Video on Demand, and perhaps even a limited theatrical release!

Here's the brief synopsis of the graphic novel that this animated film will be based on: "After visiting his father in Arkham Sanitarium, young Howard Lovecraft ignores his father's warning and uses the legendary Necronomicon to open a portal to a strange, frozen world filled with horrifying creatures and grave danger. Alone and scared, Howard befriends a hideous creature he names Spot, who takes him to the castle of the king, where he is captured and sentenced to death."

If done right, this could be incredibly awesome! And, if it is well-received, then we very well could be seeing even more fun adventures of young Howard Lovecraft!

HOWARD LOVECRAFT AND THE FROZEN KINGDOM is currently in pre-production, with a tentative release set for October of 2016! As I receive more info about this production, I'll be sure to share it here! Stay tuned for further updates Cthulhu fans!

UPDATE: MARCH 22ND, 2016
Arcana Studio and Shout! Factory announced the casting of Golden Globe-winning actor Ron Perlman (FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM, HELLBOY) and Oscar-winning actor Christopher Plummer (BEGINNERS, UP) in the upcoming animated film HOWARD LOVECRAFT AND THE FROZEN KINGDOM. Perlman is set to voice the role of Shoggoth, and Plummer has been cast in the role of Dr. Herbert West! Too cool! 

Celebrate H.P. Lovecraft's 125th Birthday this August at NecronomiCon!

It seems like conventions are popping up everywhere these days, and here is yet another one. However, unlike many of the rest, this one has a really specific, and special purpose: To celebrate the birthday (and the literary works) of Howard Phillips Lovecraft!

From August 20th to the 23rd, join fellow Lovecraft fans at the Biltmore and Omni hotels in downtown Providence, Rhode Island, to celebrate the legendary author's 125th birthday!

About NecronomiCon 2015:
The countdown is on and passes are selling fast for NecronomiCon Providence 2015! With Lovecraft’s hometown of Providence as a backdrop, this four-day event will serve as a tribute to his influential writing, as well as the city’s celebrated culture and history. This year’s convention coincides with the 125th anniversary of Lovecraft’s birth in 1890, and organizers are busy coordinating citywide festivities to commemorate the grand occasion.

H.P. Lovecraft is often considered the father of supernatural horror fiction. Many authors and filmmakers, from Stephen King to Guillermo del Toro, point to Lovecraft as a primary inspiration for their own work. Although there are several Lovecraft events held around the world, only NecronomiCon Providence has the unique distinction of taking place in Lovecraft’s city. “Lovecraft was born here and lived most of his life here. NecronomiCon Providence 2015 is anticipated to be the largest gathering of H.P. Lovecraft devotees ever assembled, including prominent Lovecraft scholars, celebrated authors, filmmakers, and artists. The festivities officially commence on Lovecraft’s birthday, Thursday, August 20, kicking off four days of panel discussions, walking tours, academic talks, author readings, film screenings, art exhibits, Lovecraftian gaming, specialty merchants, a costume ball, concerts, and other happenings, some of which will be accessible to the general public.
