October is almost halfway over, and the number of new quality genre releases has been astounding! Great films like TALES OF HALLOWEEN (available on Video On Demand on October 16th), THE FINAL GIRLS (read my review HERE; interview with the director HERE), and A CHRISTMAS HORROR STORY (now available on VOD) are reminding us that we need to really throw our support to independent filmmakers. They are the keepers of the flame!
With that said, here's a few trailers for a mix of big-budget productions and indie films that might get you excited!
TRAILER #1: HANDJOB CABIN
This is a parody trailer (not for a real film sadly) but I couldn't help but share it! I'm not entirely sure this would work as a feature-length film, but even so, this trailer is hysterical! Four "teens" go to a secluded Evil Dead-style cabin in the woods, and find themselves attacked by a sexually repressed ghost that delivers horrifyingly harsh handjobs. Directed by Bennet Silverman, this Horror-parody has gone viral and surpassed over three million views on YouTube in less than a week! Give it a look below and have yourself a good laugh.
TRAILER #2: GAMERA
This is a proof of concept trailer for Japan's upcoming reboot of the Gamera franchise. The CGI is surprisingly good, and it looks like the titanic terrapin is in good hands! Details on the actual film have yet to be announced, but I hope it goes in this direction. Watch as an army of Gyaos descend upon Tokyo to feast on puny humans, and run afoul of a certain gigantic, tusked, fire-breathing turtle!
TRAILER #3: BONE TOMAHAWK
Kurt Russell (still sporting his awesome mustache from THE HATEFUL EIGHT) stars in this critically acclaimed Horror-Western, where a group of men ride out to save some captives from a cannibalistic tribe of cave dwellers. It looks pretty intense, and I've been hearing great things! BONE TOMAHAWK will see a limited theatrical release and same day Video on Demand release on October 23rd! Peep the trailer below and get excited!
TRAILER #4: PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES
The popular parody novel from 2009 is now a feature-length film from Lionsgate. PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES is getting a theatrical release on February 5th of next year, and follows the tale of two lovers from different social classes in 19th Century, zombie-infested England. Honestly, I'm really "zombied out" at this point and don't have a ton of interest in this, but hey, it's gotta be better than ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE SLAYER, right? Check out the teaser below and decide for yourself.
That's it for now! Check back soon for more trailers and news!
