Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

Welcome to November 2019 Vault Dwellers! As we head into the holiday season, we're about to hit a few heavy weeks of awesome new releases! But for the moment, you can take it kind of easy, though there are a few must-haves out as of Tuesday.

Severin Films' delayed Blu-ray of BYLETH: THE DEMON OF INCEST is now available, Scream Factory debuted AMBITION on Blu-ray disc, UNDERCOVER BROTHER 2 (starring Michael Jai White in the lead role) quietly made its way to Blu-ray and DVD, and the second (awesome!) season of CASTLEVANIA is also now available to own!

Arrow Video released APPRENTICE TO MURDER to Blu-ray for the first time, but also released Special (i.e. standard) Editions of CHILDREN OF THE CORN, DEAD-END DRIVE-IN, HOUSE II: THE SECOND STORY, SLUGS, and THE STUFF! GOOD OMENS finally arrived on DVD & Blu-ray after several delays, Mill Creek gives SANTA WITH MUSCLES its big Blu-ray debut, and Paramount re-released GALAXY QUEST in a 20th Anniversary Steelbook!

Liongate brings the Guillermo del Toro-produced SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK to all physical media formats, and also gave Roland Emmerich's UNIVERSAL SOLDIER a major upgrade with an all new 4K Ultra HD disc! Though it lacks new extras (everything on this disc was ported over from the previous Region A release), this 4K release is the best the movie has ever looked or sounded!

Lionsgate Gives UNIVERSAL SOLDIER Its 4K Ultra HD Debut!

ROLAND EMMERICH'S EARLY 90'S ACTION/SCI-FI CLASSIC MAKES ITS WAY TO 4K ULTRA HD DISC!

I like UNIVERSAL SOLDIER well enough (the pairing of JCVD and Dolph Lundgren was a brilliant strategy) but (Van) damn it... the resulting franchise is all over the place! There are currently three direct sequels (THE RETURN, REGENERATION, and DAY OF RECKONING), and two numbered sequels that were made for TV (BROTHERS IN ARMS and UNFINISHED BUSINESS), plus a remake is apparently in the works.

All of that madness aside, while I haven't seen it recently, I recall enjoying the original UNIVERSAL SOLDIER, and look forward to seeing it in a much higher resolution than the DVD copy I own. If you're a fan of this film and don't own it yet, or are the type that always needs the best possible version of the favorite movies in your collection (guilty as charged!), then this is be a must-own for you!

Synopsis: Soldiers Luc Deveraux (Jean-Claude Van Damme - BLOODSPORT, KICKBOXER, STREET FIGHTER: THE MOVIE) and Sgt. Andrew Scott (Dolph Lundgren - ROCKY IV, THE PUNISHER, RED SCORPION) killed each other in Vietnam. But their demise proves to be just the beginning for the U.S. government, which brings both men back to life decades later for a secret anti-terrorism program.
