"MEN CANNOT RESIST HER. MANKIND MAY NOT SURVIVE HER." GET SCREAM FACTORY'S COLLECTOR'S EDITION BLU-RAY OF "SPECIES" ON JULY 11TH!

SPECIES is one of the best genre films that the '90s had to offer! It has a cool story, an incredible cast, and some fantastic creature f/x! So it's no surprise that this one is a definite must-own in my book! I'm quite happy that this title found a home with Scream Factory, particularly because they have already released the three SPECIES sequels on Blu-ray!

Hmm.... does that mean a SPECIES boxed set is a possibility down the road?

Synopsis: When a beautiful human-alien hybrid named Sil (Natasha Henstridge) escapes from observation, scientist Xavier Fitch (Kingsley) dispatches a crew of experts to find her before she is able to fulfill her horrific purpose: to mate with unsuspecting men and produce offspring that could destroy mankind.

As Sil's deadly biological clock ticks rapidly, Fitch and his team are hurled into a desperate battle in which the fate of humanity itself hangs in the balance! SPECIES was directed by Roger Donaldson (THE BANK JOB, THE RECRUIT) and produced by Frank Mancuso, Jr. (STIGMATA, FRIDAY THE 13TH PART II), and stars Ben Kingsley (SHUTTER ISLAND), Michael Madsen (THE HATEFUL EIGHT), Alfred Molina (FEUD), Forest Whitaker (ARRIVAL), Marg Helgenberger (CSI) and introduced the world to Natasha Henstridge (THE WHOLE NINE YARDS).

Scream Factory's PAUL NASCHY COLLECTION comes to Blu-ray on June 20th!

SCREAM FACTORY BRINGS FIVE CLASSIC PAUL NASCHY FILMS TO BLU-RAY IN ONE AWESOME COLLECTION ON JUNE 20TH!

"Paul Naschy (born Jacinto Molina Álvarez) was Spain's answer to Lon Chaney. He has portrayed many classic monsters – the Wolfman, Frankenstein's monster, Count Dracula, the Mummy and more! He was not only a terrific actor, but an accomplished writer, producer and director." - Scream Factory

I've only dipped a toe into the cinematic realm of Paul Naschy, but this set seems like it'd be a great way to fully immerse myself in the work of one of Spain's most prolific genre filmmakers. Featuring five of Naschy's classic films completely uncut, this is definitely yet another must-own title from our pals at Scream Factory! There's a lot of ground to cover here, so let's get to it!

VENGEANCE OF THE ZOMBIES (1973)

Synopsis: Naschy plays an Indian mystic named Kantaka, who creates a small army of zombified women to do his deadly bidding! The film's original title is translated as REBELLION OF THE DEAD WOMEN, so I'm guessing things turn sour for Paul Naschy (who also has two other roles in the film!) towards the end of this movie.

HORROR RISES FROM THE TOMB (1973)

Synopsis: Alaric de Marnac (Naschy) is a warlock in medieval France that ends up getting be-headed for practicing the dark arts. (His mistress doesn't fare too well either as she is tortured and killed.) Centuries later, Alaric's head is discovered hidden within a monastery. His head comes to life, and Alaric begins possessing people as he searches for his missing body, and attempts to resurrect his lost love through human sacrifice!

Disc Specs:
Not Rated | Color | 89 minutes | Region A
Video - 1080p Widescreen (1.85:1)

BLUE EYES OF THE BROKEN DOLL (1974)

Synopsis: A drifter named Giles (Naschy) is hired as a handyman at a house in a small French village. At around the same time, a killer is on the loose in the region, that is murdering blue-eyed women and gouging out their eyes as trophies. Is it Giles, or is someone else responsible for the gruesome killing spree?!

Disc Specs:
Not Rated | Color | 90 minutes | Region A
Video - 1080p Fullscreen (1.33:1)

NIGHT OF THE WEREWOLF (1981)

Synopsis: Waldemar Daninsky (Naschy, who also wrote and directed this film) is executed alongside Elizabeth Bathory. Centuries later, Daninsky is coincidentally revived, and does battle with the revived Elizabeth Bathory, in this somewhat remake of Naschy's LA NOCHE DE WALPURGIS (aka WALPURGIS NIGHT).

WITNESS A SIMPLE MAN BECOME A GOD IN SCREAM FACTORY'S NEW COLLECTOR'S EDITION BLU-RAY OF THE LAWNMOWER MAN!

Synopsis: Dr. Lawrence Angelo (Pierce Brosnan, THE SON) is a brilliant scientist obsessed with perfecting virtual reality software. When his experiments on animals fail, he finds the ideal substitute – Jobe Smith (Jeff Fahey, MACHETE), a slow-witted gardener. Dr. Angelo's goal is to benefit his human guinea pig and ultimately mankind itself, but evil lurks the guise of "The Shop," a shadowy group that seeks to use the technology to create an invincible war machine.

When the experiments change the simple Jobe into a superhuman being, the stage is set for a Jekyll-and-Hyde struggle for the control of Jobe's mind and the future of the world. Directed by Brett Leonard (VIRTUOSITY, HIDEAWAY), the film also stars Jenny Wright (NEAR DARK) and Geoffrey Lewis (THE DEVIL'S REJECTS).

Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

Yeesh! First off Vault Dwellers, please allow me to apologize. I have been distracted recently (because of a fun little time-waster called FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE GAME) so I have been neglecting my duties as Vault Master. Please forgive me as I get back on track and prepare to celebrate the Vault's 17th year online!

Gus Van Sant's remake of PSYCHO now available on Blu-ray from Scream Factory!

SCREAM FACTORY GIVES GUS VAN SANT'S REMAKE OF HITCHCOCK'S "PSYCHO" ITS BLU-RAY DEBUT!

It's been so very long since I've seen the original PSYCHO or its sequels, and never once have I laid eyes upon Gus Van Sant's remake. However, being the completionist that I am, I'll probably pick this disc up one day and finally watch this "shot-for-shot" redo to make some comparisons.

Synopsis: Criminal on the run, Marion Crane (Anne Heche) takes refuge at the motel operated by Norman Bates (Vince Vaughn) – a troubled man whose victims encounter a grisly fate at the hands of his "mother." Marion soon becomes the next victim and her disappearance prompts inquiries from her sister (Julianne Moore) and a private investigator (William H. Macy). They both soon discover the morbid bond linking Norman to his mysterious "mother" at the Bates Motel. Relive the terror in acclaimed director Gus Van Sant's all-new version of Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece of suspense... PSYCHO.

Trailer Round-Up: THE DARK TOWER, THE DEFENDERS, IT COMES AT NIGHT, THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM, and THE RECALL!

Greetings Vault Dwellers and welcome to another edition of our (sometimes weekly) Trailer Round-Ups! This week we take a look at four upcoming films and one NetFlix series that are sure to please! The epic first entry into a Stephen King-penned saga, a superhero team-up, a post-pandemic paranoia thriller, a period piece murder mystery, and alien abductions are all par for the course this time around. Let's watch some trailers, shall we?!

TRAILER #1: THE DARK TOWER
Release Date: August 4, 2017

Languishing in pre-production hell for years, Stephen King's THE DARK TOWER is finally coming out! Roughly adapted from book one ("The Gunslinger"), this film follows the exploits of Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), a gunslinger who is the "last of the line of Eld." He is on a quest to track down and kill "The Man in Black" (Matthew McConaughey as an evil wizard, not Johnny Cash), before he can fulfill his dark mission of destroying "The Dark Tower," thus ending all of existence across multiple worlds and universes.

I think it looks cool (really digging the use of Morricone's "60 Seconds to What"), and I for one am ready to give it a chance, especially since it picks up where King's final book left off! The only major question left on my mind now is.... will they introduce "Oy" in this film!

TRAILER #2: THE DEFENDERS
Release Date: August 18, 2017

NetFlix wowed Marvel fans with above average adaptations of DAREDEVIL, JESSICA JONES, and LUKE CAGE (and disappointed us all with IRON FIST), and now look to up the ante further with THE DEFENDERS! With "The Hand" growing in power and attempting to take over New York City, four heroes must band together and fight to save the Big Apple! Here's hoping that they improve greatly upon the character off Danny Rand in this series, and maybe even have The Punisher make a guest appearance!

TRAILER #3: IT COMES AT NIGHT
Release Date: June 9, 2017

In the wake of some sort of pandemic or extinction-level event, a family living in a secluded woodland sanctuary invite another desperate family to live with them. But there are rules of course, particularly keep the door locked and never go outside at night. Then one night, the main entrance to the house is found wide open, and soon paranoia begins to reign supreme as everyone turns on each other. Is there an actual illness? Or is something more diabolical at work? I guess we'll find out in a month!

TRAILER #4: THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM
Release Date: September 1, 2017 (UK), September 7, 2017 (In Germany), U.S. release date TBA.

Bill Nighy stars as Inspector Kildare of Scotland Yard, in this new British Horror tale! Long before Jack the Ripper stalked the streets of London, another nightmarish figure struck fear into the hearts of the British people: The so-called LIMEHOUSE GOLEM. After a series of grisly and unsolved murders, Inspector Kildare arrives to seek out the villain and stop their nocturnal reign of terror! You lucky folks in Europe get to enjoy this in September, but it seems like us 'Muricans may be waiting a bit longer! Dang it!

TRAILER #5: THE RECALL
Release Date: June 2, 2017

In classic Horror movie fashion, five friends head to a secluded cabin to party it up for a weekend. But instead of demons, zombies, or other supernatural fiends, they instead encounter alien invaders. These visitors from another planet are none too friendly, but luckily a crazy hunter played by Wesley Snipes was prepare for this very scenario, and shows up to kick some E.T. ass!

That's all I've got for you today Vault Dwellers, but be sure to check back again soon for more trailer and movie news right here at The B-Movie News Vault!

Available May 16th: Walter Hill's STREETS OF FIRE gets the royal treatment from Shout Select!

WALTER HILL'S CULT CLASSIC "STREETS OF FIRE," COMES TO COLLECTOR'S EDITION BLU-RAY ON MAY 16TH FROM SHOUT SELECT!

A friend of mine discovered STREETS OF FIRE about a decade ago and foisted it upon me. While I dug parts of it, overall I wasn't a huge fan. However, now that its gotten some major love from Shout Select, I'm ready to give this "Rock N' Roll Fable" another shot.

Synopsis: Amid a brooding rock & roll landscape, the Bombers motorcycle gang, led by the vicious Raven Shaddock (Willem Dafoe, BOONDOCK SAINTS, JOHN WICK), kidnap diva Ellen Aim (Diane Lane, MAN OF STEEL). Her hope for rescue lies with unlikely heroes: soldier of fortune Tom Cody (Michael Paré, BAD MOON) and his sidekick, the two-fisted beer-guzzling McCoy (Amy Madigan, THE DARK HALF). Joined by Ellen's manager, Billy Fish (Rick Moranis, GHOSTBUSTERS), the trio plunges headfirst into a world of rain-splattered streets, hot cars, and deadly assassins.

This cult favorite features a razor-sharp cast and original songs written by Jim Steinman, Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty and Ry Cooder and performed by The Blasters and The Fixx. Directed by cult filmmaker Walter Hill (THE WARRIORS, SOUTHERN COMFORT, 48 HRS.), STREETS OF FIRE is a rock & roll shotgun blast to the senses!

VAULT VID-O-RAMA: ALIEN DAY EDITION!

It's April 26th, and you know what that means Vault Dwellers! IT'S ALIEN DAY ONCE AGAIN!

To celebrate, 20th Century Fox is apparently doing a lot of cool stuff today, including a Live Stream Event featuring interviews with ALIEN: COVENANT cast & crew members, plus exclusive footage from the film. There are also plans for some trivia challenges, a fan art contest, special screenings of ALIEN & PROMETHEUS (check Fandango for theaters and showtimes), and more! For more details, head over to PopCultureHQ!

In honor of this relatively new Xenomorph fan-centric "holiday," we here at The B-Movie News Vault present to you a series of ALIEN-themed YouTube videos that will have you waxing nostalgic, and get you pumped for the upcoming ALIEN: CONVENANT (in theaters May 19th)!

TOY COMMERCIALS
"A-LI-ENS! SEND IN THE MARINES!" Man I loved hearing that phrase emanating from my TV's speakers back in the '90s! When the run of toys based on ALIENS came out, I was only nine years old, and well on my way to being a Sci-Fi and Horror junkie. My parents fed my addiction, and that's why I (at one time) had a ton of ALIEN action figures!

Oddly enough, I didn't have any of the human characters, but did have a good mix of Xenomorphs, including the Queen (which sadly fell apart after falling off a shelf), the water-spitting "gorilla" alien, and spiky green "mantis" alien! Scope out these cool commercials and wish you had these toys!

And here's a classic commercial for the ALIEN toy made by Kenner way back in the day!

ALIEN PARODIES
Sure the hive-mind swarms of Xenomorphs are supposed to be terrifying, but that hasn't stopped various comedic minds from poking fun at the acid-blooded space "bugs." Here's a collection of hilarious ALIEN parodies (and musicals!) that should elicit a few good chuckles.

ALIEN RIP-OFFS (TRAILER REEL!)
The most enduring legacy of ALIEN, and its sequels, is the seemingly endless army of rip-offs it has generated. Below is a playlist I created, of numerous films that said "screw it, we're gonna copy ALIEN and ALIENS, but at a fraction of the price!"

BONUS VIDEO: TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES - THE CASE OF THE KILLER PIZZAS
The classic '80s Turtles cartoon series poked fun at numerous Horror and Sci-Fi characters during its ten season run. But in Season 2, Episode 6, the fearsome foursome tangled with monsters (hatched from meatball-like eggs) that look sort of familiar....

Trailer Round-Up: Hollywood Blockbuster Edition Volume 3!

It's been quite a while since I posted a new Trailer Round-Up, so it's high time I get things back on track! Hollywood has been churning out some quality entertainment this year, and it looks like this trend will continue right up until December! Take a few minutes to peep the four trailers below and get excited for films featuring gladiatorial duels (in space!), secret British spy organizations, wisecracking hitmen, and the next chapter of the ongoing STAR WARS saga!

TRAILER #1 - THE HITMAN'S BODYGUARD
Release Date: August 18, 2017

Ryan Reynolds is a skilled bodyguard that is tasked with protecting the world's most-wanted hitman, portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson. Explosions, violence, death, and hilarity ensue as they struggle to stay alive, and maybe even become friends! In a year crowded with great action films, it'll be curious to see if this particular one holds its own. Scope out the mothaf*ckin' trailer for THE HITMAN'S BODYGUARD below!

TRAILER #2 - KINGSMAN 2 - THE GOLDEN CIRCLE
Release Date: September 29th, 2017

This sequel to the surprise hit, KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE, has the surviving members of Britain's spy organization teaming up with the American "Statesmen" to battle an all new threat! The trailer doesn't give away too much, but I'm definitely excited to see it later this year!

TRAILER #3 - STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI
Release Date: December 17, 2017

The next chapter of the STAR WARS saga continues the story of the Rebellion's efforts to defeat The First Order and its Sith leader. If they use the typical trilogy template, this will be a very dark entry into the series. Luke Skywalker appears to train Rey in the ways of The Force (though he seems pretty intent on ending the Jedi gig altogether), Kylo Ren heads further down the path to the Dark Side, and lots of cool space battles ensue!

I was a pretty big fan of THE FORCE AWAKENS (though rather lukewarm towards ROGUE ONE), so I'm eager to see what happens next. I just hope it isn't a lazy retread of THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK.

TRAILER #4 - THOR: RAGNAROK
Release Date: November 3, 2017

The third entry into Marvel's THOR franchise looks to push further into the cosmic realm of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When the evil goddess Hela (hot, emo Cate Blanchett) destroys Mjolnir and casts Thor out of Asgard, our hero must find  a way back in order to prevent Ragnarok. (i.e. The Norse Apocalypse) Thor finds himself stranded on an alien world, where he's forced to battle in a gladiatorial arena for the entertainment of the planet's ruler. But as luck would have it, he also ends up running into an old friend....

That's all I got for you today Vault Dwellers! Make sure you mark all of these cool-looking flicks down on your calendars, and be sure to check back to the News Vault soon for more trailers, Blu-ray news, and more!
