Having had a lot of success with their releases of MOTHRA and the seemingly endless ULTRAMAN series, Mill Creek is bringing two more Toho classics to Blu-ray! While BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE has been previously released to Blu-ray disc by Sony, THE H-MAN is making its debut on the format and comes with both the U.S. and Japanese cuts of the film! If you're a fan of Golden Age Japanese sci-fi cinema, you will definitely want to pick this 2-disc set up on June 9th!

Synopses: Travel back to the days before CGI, when special effects were real and the results were spectacular! Director Ishirô Honda and special effects wizard Eiji Tsuburaya bring these wildly colorful kaiju eiga (monster movies) to life in this high-definition double feature presentation!

THE H-MAN (1958) - Brought on by hydrogen bomb fallout, H-Man is a slimy green monster that dissolves human tissue and anything else in its path on contact. Scientists must figure out how to stop this creation!

BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE (1958) - The nations of the Earth unite in a common cause to fight off an invader from outer space, reflecting director Ishiro Honda's favorite theme of international cooperation!

I already own the Sony Pictures Blu of BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE, but I'm highly considering picking up this double feature just for THE H-MAN! I could not find any info about special features (so I may be updating this post as the street date nears), but I'm hoping we at least get the commentary track for BATTLE ported over from the Sony disc, and maybe trailers for each movie. Even if this double-feature is a bare bones release, the $12 - $15 sale price makes this release a heck of a bargain!

The Warner Archive Collection Wants You to Solve THE MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM!

THE ORIGINAL "HOUSE OF WAX" MAKES ITS BLU-RAY DEBUT ON MAY 12TH THANKS TO THE WARNER ARCHIVE COLLECTION!

It may shock many of you to know that 1953's HOUSE OF WAX, featuring the legendary Vincent Price, was in fact a remake of Michael Curtiz' 1933 classic THE MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM. For the longest time, the only way to see it was to purchase the (now out of print) 3D Blu-ray release of HOUSE OF WAX! That all changes on Tuesday (May 12th!) when Warner Archive gives this (once lost) film an official Blu-ray release that boasts a gorgeous new HD restoration and exclusive bonus features!

Synopsis: Bodies are mysteriously disappearing all over town, and a new wax museum has just opened. Is there a connection? But of course! In this horror classic, Fay Wray (KING KONG) stars as the intended next victim of a mad wax sculptor obsessed with her resemblance to one of his prior creations. Glenda Farrell plays a quintessential wisecracking newspaper reporter, and noted actor Lionel Atwill is the deranged artist who loses his studio to a fire set by his partner.

Filmed in the early Two-Color Technicolor® process, THE MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM was considered a lost film for decades, until a well-worn print was discovered nearly 50 years ago. Thanks to the meticulous new restoration presented on this disc, the film can now be experienced as intended!

Believe it or not Vault Dwellers, I still have yet to collect and watch most of Mill Creek's fantastic HD releases of Andy Sidaris' infamous "Triple B Series." With only two more films left to release onto Blu-ray disc (DAY OF THE WARRIOR and L.E.T.H.A.L. LADIES: RETURN TO SAVAGE BEACH), here's hoping that the powers that be at Mill Creek eventually release a boxed set containing all twelve films!

But even if a set never materializes (even though they'd be crazy not to do it!), I can't complain about the cost of each standalone release, which is typically $10 - $12. But enough about my box set pipe dreams - let's take a closer look at Mill Creek's two upcoming (Drew) Sidaris releases!

Egads! It's been a few months since I last showed my face around here Vault Dwellers! I'm extremely sorry that I've failed to fulfill my duties as webmaster of both The B-Movie Film Vault and The News Vault, but (un)fortunately I'm an "essential worker" and was not laid off during the ongoing global pandemic.
