Scream Factory Salutes Romero's DAY OF THE DEAD with a New 4K Restoration!!!

ROMERO'S FORMERLY UNDERAPPRECIATED ZOMBIE CLASSIC GETS AN INCREDIBLE 4K RELEASE ON JUNE 16TH!

You know, it's funny: A few months ago I was lamenting that Scream Factory's best days were seemingly behind them, as they've been focusing their efforts on putting out 4K UHDs of titles that were already in their catalog. (There's also been a lot of steelbook re-releases too! Ugh!)

And then they announced a 40th Anniversary Collector's Edition of DAY OF THE DEAD, a 4K UHD of a title that was already in their catalog...... and TOTALLY REDEEMED THEMSELVES!

Somehow the long-lost original interpositive for DAY OF THE DEAD was discovered last year by Radial Entertainment's Jeff Roland, leading to one of the most highly-anticipated physical media titles of 2026! My fellow collectors, the time is nigh to make a necessary 4K upgrade! But first, let us bask in the glow of the wonderful details of this upcoming 4-disc Collector's Edition!

Synopsis: In George A. Romero's third film in the saga of the undead, a small group of scientists and soldiers take refuge in an underground missile silo as they struggle to control the flesh-eating horror that walks the Earth above. But as tensions within the base reach their breaking-point, will the final battle for the future be fought among the living or have they forever unleashed the hunger of the dead?

Widely regarded as one of the most influential horror films ever made, DAY OF THE DEAD is the triumphant conclusion to George A. Romero's landmark Dead trilogy — the series that defined the modern zombie genre and forever changed the face of horror filmmaking.

The film stars Lori Cardille as the determined scientist Dr. Sarah Bowman, alongside Terry Alexander, Joseph Pilato as the menacing Captain Rhodes, Richard Liberty, Jarlath Conroy, and Sherman Howard — whose portrayal of the domesticated zombie Bub remains one of the most iconic performances in horror history. Special make-up effects by the legendary Tom Savini pushed the boundaries of practical effects and set a new standard for the genre.

Over the years I've gone back and forth on which of Romero's classic zombie films I enjoy the most: NIGHT, DAWN, or DAY?! While I'm still inclined to choose DAWN as my absolute favorite, I respect the hell out of the eerie, and highly influential 1968 original, and have really come to love the third chapter in Romero's beloved zombie series!

I'm legitimately excited for Scream Factory's upcoming 4K restoration of, what I used to (foolishly) believe, was the weakest entry in the LIVING DEAD franchise! With its wealth of extras and cool packaging, you better believe that I'm going to make certain that this Collector's Edition of DAY OF THE DEAD will be proudly displayed upon a shelf, right next to my deluxe 4K (Second Sight) release of DAWN! I just need to pre-order it ASAP!

Speaking of which.... the new DAY will dawn on Tuesday, June 16th, and it will likely cost you somewhere between $40 - $50! So be like me and pre-order this awesome set right now from AMAZON, BULL MOOSE, DIABOLIK DVD, GRUV, or ORBIT DVD!

ON OCTOBER 29TH, BLUE UNDERGROUND GIVES THIS HORROR TEAM-UP A THREE-DISC LIMITED EDITION TO CELEBRATE ITS 30TH ANNIVERSARY!

TWO EVIL EYES is a film that I must revisit in the near future, because I was not a huge fan of it during my initial viewing so many years ago. On paper, it's a movie that I should love with every ounce of my being - Based (loosely) upon the works of Edgar Allen Poe, TWO EVIL EYES was directed by George A. Romero and Dario Argento, scored by Pino Donaggio, features effects by Tom Savini, and stars Adrienne Barbeau (one of my pre-teen celebrity crushes)! And yet I never had the urge to watch it again... until now!

At the end of October, Blue Underground is unleashing their 3-Disc Limited Edition, which promises a 4K restoration of the film, tons of new special features, and a CD of the film's soundtrack! Want to learn more? Then keep on reading Vault Dwellers!

Synopsis: The masters of modern horror – George Romero and Dario Argento – bring you an unprecedented pair of shockers inspired by the tales of Edgar Allan Poe.

In Romero's The Facts in the Case of Mr. Valdemar, a conniving wife (Adrienne Barbeau - ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, CREEPSHOW, THE FOG) and her lover use a hypnotic trance to embezzle a fortune from her dying husband, only to receive some chilling surprises from beyond the grave. Then in Argento's The Black Cat, a deranged crime scene photographer (Harvey Keitel - RESERVOIR DOGS) is driven to brutal acts of madness and murder by his girlfriend's new pet. But will this cunning feline deliver a final sickening twist of its own?

Martin Balsam (PSYCHO), E.G. Marshall (CREEPSHOW), John Amos (THE BEASTMASTER) and Tom Atkins (NIGHT OF THE CREEPS) co-star in this wild horror hit that also features grisly makeup effects by Tom Savini (MANIAC)!

Look For Scream Factory's Definitive Collector's Edition of CREEPSHOW on October 23rd!

ONE OF THE GREATEST HORROR ANTHOLOGIES OF ALL TIME GETS GETS AN IMPRESSIVE BLU-RAY RELEASE!

When I heard the news of this release my first reaction was bittersweet Vault Dwellers, because all I could think was "Man, Jimmy Harris would've went wild for this!" My pal, the late Doc Terror, adored CREEPSHOW - it was his favorite Horror movie. So I for one will be picking up this new Scream Factory Blu-ray, not just because I enjoy the movie on its own merits, but also because I want to feel some sort of connection to a good friend that was taken from us all far too soon.

Let's take a closer look at this beast of a Blu-ray, shall we?

Synopsis: Five creepy tales are strung together by a framing story involving a young boy being punished by his father for reading the gruesome, titular comic book. "Father's Day" tells the tale of a family patriarch exacting beyond-the-grave revenge on the daughter who murdered him. In "The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill," a Maine hayseed is overtaken by a meteor-based plant growth. A cuckolded husband exacts watery revenge on his cheating wife and her lover in "Something to Tide You Over." A hairy beast in a box is used for nefarious purposes at a university in "The Crate." Finally, in "They're Creeping Up on You," a wealthy, arrogant New Yorker with a fear of germs has a disturbing run-in with cockroaches during a blackout.

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS Are Now Proudly Part of The Criterion Collection!

BOTH GEORGE A. ROMERO'S "NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD" AND JONATHAN DEMME'S "THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS" GET 4K MAKEOVERS FROM CRITERION!

The Criterion Collection always sets a high standard for the films they release on DVD and Blu-ray, and their latest discs are no exception! Romero's NIGHT has been completely restored, and comes with a second disc packed with amazing extras (including the NIGHT OF ANUBIS workprint)! THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS boasts a new 4K transfer with new and archival extras! File both of these under "must own!"

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968)

Synopsis: Shot outside Pittsburgh on a shoestring budget, by a band of filmmakers determined to make their mark, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, directed by horror master George A. Romero, is a great story of independent cinema: a midnight hit turned box-office smash that became one of the most influential films of all time!

A deceptively simple tale of a group of strangers trapped in a farmhouse who find themselves fending off a horde of recently dead, flesh-eating ghouls, Romero's claustrophobic vision of a late-1960s America literally tearing itself apart rewrote the rules of the horror genre, combined gruesome gore with acute social commentary, and quietly broke ground by casting a black actor (Duane Jones) in its lead role. Stark, haunting, and more relevant than ever, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is back!

    Disc Specs:
    Not Rated | Black & White | 97 minutes | Region A

NIGHT's price range varies wildly (from $18 - $30) and is available at AMAZON, BULLMOOSE, and DIABOLIK DVD!

THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (1991)

Synopsis: In this chilling adaptation of the best-selling novel by Thomas Harris, the astonishingly versatile director Jonathan Demme crafted a taut psychological thriller about an American obsession: serial murder. As Clarice Starling, an FBI trainee who enlists the help of the infamous Hannibal 'the Cannibal' Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) to gain insight into the mind of another killer, Jodie Foster subverts classic gender dynamics and gives one of the most memorable performances of her career.

As her foil, Anthony Hopkins is the archetypal antihero cultured, quick-witted, and savagely murderous delivering a harrowing portrait of humanity gone terribly wrong. A gripping police procedural and a disquieting immersion into a twisted psyche, THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS swept the Academy Awards (best picture, director, screenplay, actress, actor) and remains a cultural touchstone.

    Disc Specs:

    LAND OF THE DEAD (2005)

Synopsis: Legendary filmmaker George A. Romero returns to unleash another chapter in his zombie series! In this new tale of terror, Romero creates a harrowing vision of a modern-day world where the walking dead roam a vast uninhabited wasteland and the living try to lead "normal" lives behind the high walls of a fortified city. A new society has been built by a hand of ruthless opportunists, who live in luxury in the towers of a skyscraper, high above the less fortunate citizens who must eke out a hard life on the streets below.

With the survival of the city at stake, a group of mercenaries is called into action to protect the living from the evolving army of the dead waiting outside the city walls. LAND OF THE DEAD features a cast of great actors including Dennis Hopper (TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE PART 2), Simon Baker, Asia Argento, Robert Joy and John Leguizamo.
