Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

Hey gang! We're almost halfway through December 2019, and this is (more or less) the last big week of new DVD & Blu-ray releases for the year! So start making out your Christmas wish lists because your favorite companies just dropped some amazing new titles!

Severin Films brought VIY to DVD & Blu-ray, Mill Creek Entertainment unleashed ULTRASEVEN to Blu-ray in both standard and steelbook editions, and Massacre Video dropped a double feature of AMERICAN RAMPAGE and DANGER USA.

Quentin Tarantino's ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD debuted this week on all formats, as did IT: CHAPTER TWO, and Kino Lorber flooded the market with lots of new releases this week, including ACES: IRON EAGLE III, BLUE COLLAR, THE NUDE BOMB, STICK, ICEMAN, DOG DAY, TERMINAL VELOCITY, and HITCHCOCK: BRITISH INTERNATIONAL PICTURES COLLECTION!

Despite Kino Lorber's impressive release slate, I personally have to give this week to Scream Factory! Along with their new Blu-rays of THE ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN OF THE HIMALAYAS (which comes with several audio commentaries and featurettes!), and DR. JEKYLL AND SISTER HYDE, they also dropped an amazing boxed set featuring the entirety of THE FLY saga! From the 1958 original, to the sequel of David Cronenberg's 1986 remake, all five films are included in THE FLY COLLECTION, which is filled to the brim with hours and hours of new and archival extras!

Growing up, ULTRASEVEN was the last of the classic Ultra-series that I saw a few episodes of, so it is with great excitement that I announce Mill Creek's upcoming Blu-ray release of this show! Featuring a new incarnation of everyone's favorite red and silver space giant and his variety of special abilities (like the deadly Eye Slugger, Emerium Ray, Wide Shot, and Ultra Psychic techniques!), this show also introduced us to the "Capsule Monsters," a trio of kaiju that can be called upon to save the day when Ultraseven's human host Dan Moroboshi (Kohji Moritsugu) is incapable of transforming! Synopsis: In the Age of Interplanetary Wars, Earth is in danger from those who would threaten its very existence. From their massive underground complex near Mt. SCREAM FACTORY BRINGS ROY WARD BAKER'S GENDER-BENDING HAMMER HORROR CLASSIC TO BLU-RAY WITH NEW EXTRAS!

There have been so many film adaptations of the tale of Dr. Henry Jekyll, and his alter ego Mr. Hyde! Aside from the various remakes of the original story there's been a blaxploitation version (DR. Vault Master's Pick of the Week!

Greetings Vault Dwellers and welcome to the first Stock Your Vault post of December 2019! This week is a bit on the light side, but there are definitely some big must-have titles to add to your collection!

The final season of GAME OF THRONES is now available on all formats (as is THE COMPLETE COLLECTION), 2019's READY OR NOT arrives on DV & Blu-ray, and Shudder brings BOAR (the second best giant killer pig movie I've ever seen) to both DVD & Blu-ray!

Arrow Video blasts us with a trio of Special (standard) Edition titles, including JAKE SPEED, SLAUGHTER-HOUSE FIVE, and WATERWORLD (sans the second disc that contains the extended and European cuts), while Kino Lorber Studio Classics gives us new Special Edition Blus of KONGA, THE MAGIC SWORD, and SHE (starring Sandahl Bergman)!

But it is truly Scream Factory that holds sway over all this week, with their fantastic new Collector's Edition (and Limited Edition Steelbook) of John Carpenter's BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA! An Urban Legend Reborn: Jeremy Sumrall's Supernatural Slasher PICKAXE is Now Available to Rent or Own!

THE FURY OF ALEX BLACK HAS BEEN UNLEASHED UPON THE MASSES, WITH THE DVD & DIGITAL RELEASE OF "PICKAXE!"

I adore MY BLOODY VALENTINE, and really enjoyed its remake, but both films never quite deliver on the promise of an undead miner with a (pick)axe to grind! (Sorry for spoilers!) That's where Jeremy Sumrall comes in, with this ode to 80s Horror!

Featuring Tiffany Shepis (SHARKNADO 2: THE SECOND ONE, ABOMINABLE, VICTOR CROWLEY ) and A. Michael Baldwin (the PHANTASM series), PICKAXE delivers on a marauding miner seeking bloody vengeance from beyond the grave! As stated above, PICKAXE is actually a repackaging of Jeremy Sumrall's 2014 film, THE PICK-AXE MURDERS PART III: THE FINAL CHAPTER (which was not a sequel to anything - apparently some people missed that joke!) and features plenty of boobs and blood to sate most horror and slasher film fans!

The DVD from Wild Eye Releasing is bare bones and currently available for $12.99 at AMAZON! But if you want to try it before you buy it (or prefer digital streaming/downloading) you can watch PICKAXE on AMAZON PRIME VIDEO: It's $4.99 to rent and $9.99 to own! (Note: The digital version is listed as 76 minutes long. I don't know if it is actually shorter, or if that was a mistake on Amazon's part. I'll update this post when I find out for sure!)
